Thank you, I would not mind one. I can wait - he does not know me well, so I doubt he would be expecting me.

Sam will no doubt not be expecting anyone, even if he did hear my announcement. [Dryly. Sam tends to live like he's in a vacuum sometimes. She pours Maglor a drink-- she may not know him well or at all, but a good bartender knows what her customers order.]

Nami - well met! Maglor, at your service. He was kind to me, and my brother is fond of him, although I doubt Maedhros will visit, he remains too skittish for that.

He'll definitely appreciate that you came by, even if he acts exasperated about it. [Even if it's fond exasperation, yeah Sam I see that tag.] He's probably mad at me for pulling such a trick.

[The grin on her face says she doesn't care.]

[ Maglor laughs softly ] He is like my brother, in that way. But I am sure he appreciates most of all the effort that you made to remember.

[She's not sure on that. Not after their many conversations. But oh well, Nami would really rather he have some fun on his birthday for once.]

Birthdays should stand out. I mean, at least until you hit a certain age, anyway.

[ Maglor raises an amused eyebrow at her ]

Oh? And what might that age be?

[namisan]

It depends, I suppose. The point you want to stop being reminded of how old you are. It differs for everyone.

[bythewaves]

[ He chuckles softly ]

I see - I suppose friends would also see that age differently to oneself, also?

[namisan]

I'd say so. But everyone should have a celebration on their birthday at least once, right? {She knows where that line of questioning may lead.]

He's lucky I didn't throw him an outright party, to be honest.

Hm, including yourself, Lady?

[ Maglor laughs ]

Perhaps we should, although I admit, I do not know what he would enjoy.

[namisan]

I had one last year! [The widest of grins.] And when my birthday comes round again, I'll have another. 3rd July! Mark the date!

[Some people could stand to learn from her shamelessness, so hah. But answering more seriously, because Nami is a bratty friend, not a callous one--]

I don't think he's an outright party sort of guy. Probably a quiet celebration with friends is right up his alley. Good food, good drink. Maybe some good music.

[ Maglor smiles at her and tips his glass, already considering if he can write her a song, maybe, by then ]

Mm, well, we are in the right spot for good music?

We are. Honestly I'm not sure what kind of music he likes, though. Our jukebox collection doesn't have a great deal of variety, sadly. Maybe I can get people to sing Happy Birthday at him, though.

Do you think we could perhaps find him things here? This is a world that delights in music, after all.

I did not realise there was a specific tune?

Neither did I until I went dimension hopping. [Dryly. Before she ran the bar, even, but people keep throwing parties here.]

I can sing it to you if you like. Though my voice isn't the greatest.

It is not a common one to your world then? And I am sure you underestimate yourself, milady!

[namisan]

[She laughs.] I appreciate it, but trust me when I say I know my strengths.

It's not, no. But we travel a great deal, so I suppose I've never been in a place long enough to see what birthday traditions exist in other places. It was certainly not a song sung in my village as a child, though.

Mm, I always find it interesting to see what traditions others have. [ Maglor smiles ]

Although my folk do not actually celebrate birthdays.

[namisan]

No? [She peers at him.] Well, that's fair. I mean, most people only celebrate so they can have an excuse for a party, there's no real significance unless they've come of age.

Do you have a coming of age ceremony?

[bythewaves]

No - well, when we are younger, we celebrate Begetting Days, but it tends to be a little redundant after a while.

Not as such, but our fiftieth, and then our first century do tend to be celebrated rather larger than normal.

Long-lived, huh? [Well, she already figured he wasn't human and all, but...] I guess birthdays would probably get a little wearying after a, uh. Few hundred. Even for people like me.

I believe the term is "functionally immortal"? [ Maglor says thoughtfully ]

We may be slain - by blade or poison or grief - but we do not age as Men ... sorry, humans, do, for we are tied to the world, to live as it lives and die only when it ends. But yes - I am... roughly some nine thousand six hundred years old by now, and I gave up celebrating long ago.

Even so! It has been long and long indeed since I even bothered to think on it. I count my age from the turning of the seasons, these days.
