Oh, Kate. [He sits down on the floor with them, setting the bag down too so he can wrap a non-slobbered arm around her.] I'm sorry. [She'd talked to him about things she newly remembered and how they weren't good with Clint, but he's sure this was still a blow.]

[ kate is never -- never -- one to turn down an embrace. she anchors her arms around mon-el's neck and tugs herself close. friendly, unabashed, and tinged with sadness.

(even though behind her back, lucky is quick to nose the contents of the set-aside bag. ]

I know. So am I. [ a tight squeeze. ] He was a disaster, you know? But he was my disaster.

[He leaves the bag to defend itself for the moment since nosing hasn't turned into biting or licking yet. He concentrates on Kate instead.] I know the feeling. [Maybe a little at least with his parents. He wouldn't call anyone else at the DEO a disaster.]

You aren't alone here. Or even alone plus Lucky.

I mean -- maybe it's for the best. [ clint had been unhappy here; she knows it. but, equally, kate knows the depth of trouble he's got awaiting him back home. no matter how keenly he wanted to deny it.

she buries her chin against mon-el's shoulder with a huff. ] But it still sucks. I think I feel bad for Lucky most of all. Can't catch a break.

Even if it was it doesn't mean you have to feel good about it. [It's hard to lose people.] Was Lucky Clint's dog?

He started out that way. [ kate sinks backward -- ending their hug, but letting their knees stay nudged together where they sit. with a light hiss, she shoos lucky away from the mystery back -- hauling him back into her lap.

pets are his reward. ] Clint rescued him from a gang of tracksuit-wearing mobsters. They'd tossed him out into the street -- a car hit him. That's how he lost the eye. [ another affection scratch behind lucky's ears. ]

But over time? He kinda became our dog. Joint custody.

[He does give the bag a quick peek to make sure it's holding up before looking back to Kate.]

Did you name him Lucky because he survived the car accident or is that what the tracksuit-wearing mobsters called him?

Clint picked it. [ ... ] Kind of a dull choice, really, but I think he said the name they'd given him before had been Arrow. And he thought it was a little too on the nose to keep it.

[He smiles at that.] Sounds like it was meant to be if his name was Arrow.

So, important question. [The original reason for visiting.] How do you and Lucky feel about twice baked potatoes?

Twice baked potatoes, huh? [ unexpected, but not unwelcome. she eyes the bag again, a quiet smile creeping in place. sad as she is, she's also indomitable. ] I say, bring on the carbs. The carbier the better.

I've been experimenting with cooking. [And if nothing else this system has plenty of root vegetables!] Should we go somewhere with a table? [He's not too proud to eat on the floor if that's her pleasure.]
