Magic Talk with Yuan, Episode 2
Who: Yuan Ka-Fai and anyone
Broadcast: Video
Action: The library on the Iskaulit
When: Now
[The video feed opens up to Yuan in the library. He's once again poised to take notes as he addresses the camera.]
A while ago, I asked about magic in other people's worlds, specifically about elves and their connection to it, or where magic originates from if not elves. Today I'd like to ask instead specifically about healing magic.
In my world, healing magic is a little different from regular elemental spells, although most healing spells also incorporate one of the eight elements. Very few 'casters have the aptitude to learn it - I'm not one of them, so there are a lot of gaps in my understanding - and as such, those who do are sought after for their skills. I'd like to hear about healing magic in your worlds as well: is it associated with a particular element or type of magic? Can any spellcaster learn to heal, or is it restricted to certain people? What, if any, are its limitations or drawbacks?

What sort of people have access to magical healing, then?

However, the kingdom of Lucis's rulers have the ability to use magic that is passed through their bloodlines and they share that with their retainers. As such, the ability to use potions, elixirs and phoenix downs are more useful to them than to commoners. To the ordinary man, they act as healthy energy drinks.
There is also a person called The Oracle, who has the ability to heal a dangerous condition called StarScourge. It's passed down through the line of Nox Fleuret line of Tenebrae, from mother to daughter.
[That's the most he's shared about Eos since his arrival, and has said a great deal about the people running around the Fleet.]
Both lines have been blessed by the six gods of our world, according to the legends.
[And he is in a good position to say that the legends are true.]

Tenebrae...
So those with noble blood have magic, and get more benefit from battle medicines than those without. [He's writing all this down.] What does StarScourge do? I'm also curious about these legends. Is...Tenebrae the name of one of those gods you spoke of?

The StarScourge is what turns people and animals into daemons, the creatures that have destroyed a great deal of my world. It originated from the stars. [Hence the name.] The legends have to do with the six gods of my world, the founding of the Lucis Caelum line and the first Oracle of the Nox Fleuret line.
Tenebrae is the former kingdom of the Oracle's line. They are now an "Imperial Protectorate".
[His tone lets Yuan know what he thinks of that.]

Tell me more about these gods of your world, then, who gave your rulers their blessing. ...If you don't mind.

Before, no, Tenebrae was a beautiful and peaceful nation of light and known for the Sylleblossoms the Nox Fleurets grew. After the invasion, it was still not as bad as the empire itself.
As for the Six Astrals, they are Ifrit the Infernian, Bahamut the Draconian, Ramuh the Fulgurian, Titan the Archaean, Leviathan the Hydraean, and Shiva the Glacian can only be reached by the prayers of the Oracle and the Lucian kings. Most of what they are is wrapped up in mystery and shrouded by the fog of the passage of time. It's been thousands of years since they were truly active on my world. Until as of late.
I've only met two of them, and neither meeting was exactly what I would call pleasant.
[Because being squashed by Titan or electrified by Ramuh is so much fun, okay, okay.]

That sounds...very like the situation with our Summon Spirits, although they are eight and more. [One name stuck out in particular, but he wants to gather more information first because it isn't quite the same...] Are yours aligned to elements of magic as well?
no subject
Is it possible for these Summoning Spirits to be summoned by anyone on your world? [He's never heard of that being possible from another person on the Fleet. And only Lunafreya and Noctis are capable on Eos that he knows of.]
Yes, five out of the six are elemental based—fire, ice, lightning, earth, and water. However, Bahamut is the leader of the Astrals and has no element.

[He pauses, then forges onward:] Volt of Lightning, Undine of Water, Gnome of Earth, Sylph of Wind, Efreet of Fire, Celsius of Ice, Luna and Aska of Light, Shadow of Darkness: these are the Spirits of the eight elements. There are also a few others: Origin the King, whose domain is life and creation; Maxwell, who is said to have gifted the elves with spellcraft; Verius, who rules over hearts; and the spirit of Mana, whose domain is the Great Tree which sustains the world.

[Especially since there are no other races on Eos. Just humans, animals and the daemons running around.
One name, however, grabs his attention.]
Efreet of Fire?

It is. What is he like? There is very little written about the Infernian on Eos.

[It's twisted but it makes sense.]
You've met them all then? Are you a summoner?

I can understand that. Beings with that much power tend to be unforgettable.
