Calibration Post 1, "Daytime"

[ Not long after the shuffle, there's a ripple of static over the network - loud, sudden, and seemingly with no origin. It's puzzling, but there's no indication that it's going to happen again...

Until a minute later. Another surge of static comes in over the speakers, and then a voice - one some may find familiar, though not necessarily welcome, after all of this time... It's Diamond. Long time no speak, hmm?

Clearly, not all is well. She sounds very far away, for one. For another, she sounds... skeptical, almost alarmed. There may actually be real concern in her voice. ]

Again? Twice in one c--

[ Her sentence is cut short with a strangled gasp, followed by a moment of silence. What follows may be the sound of metal dragged across metal, but it's hard to place. When she speaks again, it's uncharacteristically monotonous. ]

... Bring them in.

[ A blip of lost time passes right after those words, before every passenger mysteriously wakes alone in their own unfamiliar room. The style of decor resembles that of the Marsiva's Hospitality Deck, if any passengers should remember what that's like. It sounds and smells the same as the host ship as well, all clean and chrome, but this set of rooms has only been used once, and for the very same purpose that befalls the fleet contestants now.

As for their hosts, there is no immediate sign of them, though some may recall a series of hideous, half-electronic screams before their memories begin to blur upon arrival...

It's fascinating when you add the multiverse into the mix, sure. I mean, there's also bound to be some realities where there are not gods or deities such as much.

Of course, that makes as much sense as them existing. Crazy, when you think about it, right?

That all possibilities are happening all at once? Yeah. Mind officially blown.

Makes sense, I suppose. If one thing is possible then all things are possible. There's probably a world out there that is legitimately ruled by a spaghetti monster.

Ooh, does that mean the rivers are tomato sauce? Because we can we visit that world. I'll even hunt down some bread sticks to enjoy it to the fullest.

I'm not sure. There's probably things living in the theological tomato sauce river. It's still a river. Rivers are pretty disgusting.

Way to take the fun out of it. [He replies, with a soft chuckle.] I'd have to find the reality where there's a tomato river that is perfectly safe to eat.

Maybe if it's inside? Like that film with Gene Wilder- but instead of a candy room it's a condiments room.

That's that old classic vid right? The chocolate factory one? Wasn't that based on a book?

That's the one. Very popular book, too. Had a sequel if I remember rightly.

That's like way old school for me.

Still fairly recent for me, but not much of a fart in the wind compared to...well, everything else.

That's true for everything though, isn't it?

I don't know, my comparisons are a little...extended.

I don' think I'm a fan of that tone.

Oh, no offense! It's just you talk about immortality like it's no big deal. And I'm a regular bloke who can't wrap my head around that.

But then I have a hard enough time with krogan and asari life spans.

Ah, right. Sorry. I forget that you mortals struggle with it.

[He will never truly understand it. Them and their firefly existences. Blinked out in a proverbial second. ]

Long lived, are they?

Probably not compared to you. But I knew a krogan who was over a thousand four hundred years old. And asari live for a thousand years too.

Huh. How about that. Wonder what happens when you lot interbreed? Does it make for a medium-long-lived being?

[mongoosecrow]

The asari almost always interbreed and the offspring is always an asari. It's literally the main point of how they breed.

Don't know if a human ever mated with a krogan... That idea is a little horrifying actually.

[onlyanapple]

...Don't they come out all..like with extra limbs or weird eye deformities or something? Cousins marrying cousins kind of thing.

[There's Crowley. Asking the important questions.]

Why? What're they like?

[mongoosecrow]

Sometimes one comes out purple instead of blue? [Then, after a moment,] Oh. And there's the Ardat-Yakshi but they sound more like villains than anything.

And the krogan are massive, have steel plates in their heads, a lot of redundant systems including four testicles.
