[Kaneis really isn't a fan of talking on these things. Not that he has anything against technology, but on the other side of the technology there's -- people. Which you know, he takes a lot more issue with. Especially when said people (and unicorns) seem to know more about him than he would like.]

[Though let's face it, he'd probably take issue if you somehow knew what his favorite color was too.]

[But he has a question he wants answered. So he decides to make it as brief as possible.]

What's everyone's augmentation? I mean- what information's been crammed into your head. I'm a pilot and I've already heard about security- but what else is there?

This isn't a way to make small talk, I just wanna know what a full crew needs.

[He cuts the feed.]

I'm gonna take one of the shuttles out so I can practice flying without worrying about killing us all. Shouldn't be more than a few hours.

Also, has anyone seen a green gemstone lying around anywhere? [It shouldn't be anywhere on the ship, since it was confiscated along with the weapons. He just doesn't know that yet.]

[ Cecil has the network open idly in the armory where she's at when the messages happen to come up. She gives them a listen, then decides to go looking for their pilot, heading for the bay where the shuttles out, intrigued by his remark that's obviously made to shut down casual conversation and his question about a gemstone. ]

Kaneis? Have you left yet?

[Luckily, he hasn't! He seems instead to be running diagnostics on the shuttles before any takes off. Or at least, hoping his augment gave him the right methods for diagnostics since he rather not explode out there.]

Captain. [He'll look over at her as she approaches] Nah, not yet. Wanted to make sure these shuttles actually worked first, you know?

[ She nods in agreement as she comes closer to him, watching him work, but at a distance just large enough to make it clear she isn't trying to micromanage him. She's just curious about the process and how well he implements it. ]

Wise decision. It would be rather grievous if you were lost out there. I don't know how much we can trust our "gracious hosts" not to purposely lead us to our deaths.

[ She suspects death might not be permanent here, like in Court, but she's still just as unwilling to take risks with the lives of the fleet, especially her own crew. ]

Where are you going to go?

[He appreciates the space, really, and keeps working]

Yeah, no kidding. Especially after we've seen what they consider food out here.

[Seriously, it's all horrible. So horrible.]

Probably just around the Waystation and fleet. Nowhere special- I just wanna get used to handling the controls, you know?

[ WELL, THERE'S MAYBE GOOD NEWS ON THAT FRONT. Although that would definitely translate into bad news for Allen Walker, but still...

She still decides not to tell him about Barakiel just yet anyway. ]

Understandable. Would you mind if I tagged along? I haven't yet looked inside of them myself.

[WOW CECIL DON'T STEAL ALLEN'S COOK THAT'S JUST RUDE.]

Uh... [He rubs his head] If you want, but I'm not sure how exciting it'll be.

[ IT WAS HIS IDEA! She even told him it was best he stay to feed Allen. He's just terrible at this whole independence thing. ]

Honestly, anything that doesn't involve counting firearms or staring at the same four walls for most of the day is extremely exciting, Zelos.

[ Oh, oops. ]

Ah... er, Kaneis. 'Sorry.

[He freezes at that name slip-ip, then he bristles as his eyes narrow.] You know what? I've changed my mind- I'm going alone.

[Flying was going to be a way to escape the problems, at least for a little while. like hell was he going to bring that with him]

You got something you wanna say, say it here.

[ You know... she wants to apologize again -- she really does -- but then she remembers she's the authority figure here and frankly, whatever baggage he carried onto this ship with him is not justification for acting that way over a mistake. Cecil straightens her back and narrows her own eyes right back. ]

Don't take that tone with me. There isn't really anything to say. I spoke with your counterpart and he was angry about your choice to go by a different name, so it stayed with me, that's all. You'll excuse me for making one mistake. It won't happen again. What you choose to call yourself is your decision and I genuinely don't care, but I won't have you snapping over accidents.

[wilder]

Or what? You'll throw me out an airlock?

[But despite the sass, there is something on his face that says he feels a bit guilty for snapping. Even so, his arms cross. He tries to talk in a calmer tone]

I'm pretty sure he was just angry I exist at all. [Not that he sounds upset by that idea- people tended not to want him to exist.] But I just- I'm just sick of every other person in this stupid place calling me that. I haven't been Zelos in a long time.

[Was that an attempt at an apology or explanation? who the hell knows]

[ She can't really tell herself, but his expression -- and maybe also the fact that he reminds her of another redhead prone to outbursts about who he is and who she thinks he is -- keeps her from getting any angrier. ]

Listen...

[ She sighs and takes one small step towards him. She doesn't rest a hand on him the way she did when they first met, but the offer of comfort is still there, implied in her body language and the slight softening of her voice. ]

You can't expect others to know how you feel, especially since you won't talk about it. I'm not saying you have to either-- only that it doesn't give you the right to take your pain and anger out on everyone else when they mean you no harm.

I guess I understand the basics of how to do things around here. I could fly one of those shuttles and I can work with the food machines and stuff like that... but nothing special.
