(Trimming hair is easier said than done, but the tall Elf has done an...admirable...job? ~~Shhh don't tell him it's uneven in parts.~~ He sets down a pair of scissors and cocks his head, peering at himself in a mirror.)

I must have been...angled...incorrectly. (His left hand doesn't quite smack his face, but it does try to cover it as his ears go red.)

It was getting too long, you see. I became tangled in it every morn and the brushing of it was a painful business.

(Clearly annoyed, he grabs a brush, sets about smoothing it and puts it all in a ponytail. Some of the strands are rebellious, however, and fall out of the ribbon to frame his face. The tickling sensation annoys him more and he tries to tuck them, instead, behind his ears. His mangled ear doesn't make a proper perch for the copper strands and some of them fall right back where they started.)

{Fingon makes a valiant attempt not to look horrified. Deep breaths are the key! Even when they end in a sigh, right? Without speaking yet, he pulls some of his own hair forward, fingering the ends thoughtfully.}

Perhaps I should trim my hair too. {He blinks at Maedhros' image through his bangs, almost worried about what his beloved cousin might say.} Am I getting shaggy, Maitimo?

(His eyes widen in horror at the mere mention and he gives his head a defiant shake.)

Do not touch your hair, cousin! I am not as skilled as you with my hands, so this was meant to ease my days. But you -

(He flushes and pushes back his hair hopelessly.)

You could grow it to your feet and I would say the same.

{Fingon ducks his head, but raises it back to smile softly at Maedhros.}

Then I won't. But Maitimo, may I...tidy...the ends of your hair? It is far too beautiful to be left uneven, though I know you did your best.

(He tugs on the sad ends his cutting has left behind, humming nervously.)

Can it be rescued? I must have had my head tilted when I -

Of course it can! I will make it look nice again. {And maybe add some pretty ribbon?}

Fingon grins.}

{The feed closes and only a few minutes pass before there's a knock at Maedhros' door.}

(He rises to answer the door, fidgeting nervously.)

Are you truly considering cutting your hair?

{Fingon steps in and slips his arms around Maedhros' waist for a warm hug, then looks up and rests his chin on his cousin's chest to smile fondly up at him.}

Not seriously. I know you love my hair long.

(He bends just enough to wrap his arms around the smaller Elf, gently kissing a pointed ear.)

You have beautiful hair. I do not like the idea of there being less of it. (His fingers run through it to prove his point.)

{This is why Fingon doesn't always mind being so short! He fits nicely in Maedhros' arms. Perfect for cuddling.

He humms happily with the touch.}

(He is the perfect size for Maedhros to keep safe and warm. The fact that his fierce cousin allows him that joy is an unmatched kindness.)

You mean I did. (He takes a seat and frees his hair from the ribbon.)

{Always. They're where Fingon feels safest and coziest.

He follows and settles behind Maedhros on his heels. He runs gentle fingers through the short hair.}

You still have beautiful hair. It is only untidy now, but that will not last long.

(He feels the fingers and gives a small, happier sigh.)

Can you manage a straight edge? I could not. (His lips twist wryly.) It seemed so simple!

{Fingon drops a kiss to red hair before reaching for the scissors.}

I will do my best! If I did cut my hair, I would ask you to help.

(The scissors are handed over without any hesitation. Maedhros trusts him with far more than his hair.)

I would not be able to do it, Finno.

{This isn't the first time Fingon's tidied his cousin's hair up. Every cut he makes is careful, and he presses the occasional kiss to Maedhros' head just because.}

Even to make it look better again?

(He truly has no desire for Fingon to stop if he keeps giving him so much affection! Maedhros bites his lip, grinning.)

Why would it look bad in the first place?

{Does Fingon need a reason to heap affection on his family? No! Never! Especially when he gets Maedhros to smile and grin and laugh.

He pauses in his work to slip arms loosely around his cousin, leaning against him.}

(Maedhros frowns and leans into the hold, turning his head so that their temples touch.)

You are not a fool like me. If you wished for it to be cut, you would not do it yourself.

(He stretches up his left hand to caress a black braid.)

I would keep the fallen strands too.

{Fingon nuzzles his cheek and presses a kiss to it.}

We are all fools, Maitimo.

{He hugs him closer.}

If my hair is ever cut, it would be out of necessity, or by an enemy.

In one way or another. (He is definitely more of a fool than most and unapologetic for it.)

The enemy would die for such a trespass. (He leans into the hold, doing his utmost to coax Fingon into his lap.) Finno, may I hold you?

Fingon doesn't need any coaxing, happy to move around and sit in his cousin's lap, leaning against him with a warm smile.} You are always welcome to.

More than likely, yes. (Maedhros flushes and wraps his arms around him, resting his cheek against Fingon's shoulder.)

{Fingon tucks himself in close and kisses Maedhros' cheek.}
