so i have a question
is anyone here good with plants??? im running low on elfroot and i was wonder if anyone can
grow it or cultivate it or something i need a lot of it a constant source
also uh
lyrium need that too but it isnt something you can grow
if atroma could be so nice to give me some?? pretty please

[ Indeed if anyone does go looking for Marian Hawke or happens to wander into the Malum in the next few hours they will find the Champion of Kirkwall there, tucked away in the most isolated corner she can manage nursing a drink. It might be her fifth at this point, not that it matters she has an amazing tolerance. She is leaning on the table lazily, idly thumbing through her communicator as her mabari, fondly named Dog, sits protectively by her feet.

She looks miserable, or bored, it's a little tough to tell. But what a better time to bother her, right? ]

I'll have you know owning a mabari is a point of pride amongst my countrymen! [ She's grinning at least and not the stiff, forced sort of grin either. Pushing a drink over to him as he sits.

Dog laps up the attention, little stubby tail wagging joyfully at the scratches. ]

Yes, Dog. It's a funny story actually.

[Well he will take that drink, gratefully so, and knock back about half of it just to start.] Hit me. I could do with funny. [And he suspects she could too, what with her thinly-veiled cry for positive attention.]

It all started when my father came home with a mabari puppy. I honestly don't remember why he brought it home, but he gave it to us and told us we were supposed to give it a name.

[ Without looking she starts to lightly brush her foot against Dog, partly giving the beast attention but also reminding herself that he's there. ]

My brother, Carver, I think he wanted to name him something stupid but not only that he hoped Dog would bond with him. [ She throws back about half of her drink. ] Mabari's choose their master and when they do, it's for life.

─Anyway, Carver, Bethany and I argued for days what to name him but couldn't ever agree on anything. I started to just call him Dog, he responded to it so I figured why not. The funny part was when he finally choose a master it was me and not Carver, he had tried so hard with treats and bones and whatever. [ Maybe the story isn't that funny but she chuckles regardless, the image of her brother's huffy face fresh in her mind. ] Carver still wanted to name him but Dog wouldn't respond to anything he tried.

So he just became known as Dog.

Sounds like he liked your decisiveness. Or just hated your brother, I guess. [Looks down at Dog drooling on the floor, eyes sleepily blinking as Hawke nudges him with her foot.] Who's Bethany, your sister?

Carver's a tit. [ It's said quick but fondly. ] But he's not a bad person. Always complained and bitched at me, saying something about living in my shadow. Bah.

[ Bethany's name makes her should drop a little, her head rolling off to the side. ]

Mmhm, Carver and Bethany were twins. She was the sunshine to his storm clouds, would always try to see the best of the situation. No one could hate her no matter how hard they tried, she was just so nice and warm. But she was always the one who kept us in line, I was more scared of her scolding me than my mother.

...that's...a whole lotta past tense, [Cloud notes uncomfortably. He can guess a little of that. People who've lost a lot tend to recognize that kind of tone and look in each other.]

Yeah, it is.

[ For all of her attempts to keep the brightness in her expression, in her tone, it falls. Her death might have been years ago now but her absence is still felt. Painfully so now in this moment. ]

She died years ago, protecting my mother from an Ogre.

Sorry. [Cloud turns his glass on the table, other hand curled into a fist.] ...and your mom and brother, are they...?

Carver's alive, made a name for himself to. He's still a huge tit though. [ She smiles fondly at the memory of him though, easing the ache in her chest. ] Mother... no, she was killed by a blood mage. He had been killing countless women just so he could tear them apart and stitch them together into some kind of... Monster.

[ The smile fades and Hawke throws back a considerable portion of her drink. ]

Wasn't fast enough, I couldn't save her. I killed the bastard who butchered her, let him see how it felt to be torn to pieces. I couldn't... I got to say goodbye to her at least, before his mage faded.

[ Wow, this got depressing. She needs to drink more. ]

[Holy shit, killing women to sew their corpses together? Sounds like the same twisted shit Hojo was into.

Cloud abruptly takes his hand off his glass so he doesn't break it, expression scrunching up.] ...at least you killed that asshole. At least he won't do that to anybody else's mom.

[ Something rises up in her throat. A sudden panic that comes from almost no where and she looks at him eyes wide, fingers curled tight around her glass. Shit, this isn't what she... Well shit. ]

Yeah. [ She tries to laugh it off but it doesn't sound right. ] I did, it was a shitty consolation prize but...

[ The panic clutches at her throat and she takes a swift drink. ]

Damn, I made this all depressing. [ Nice going, Marian. ] Sorry.

[Cloud rubs the back of his neck before half-rising from his chair so he can refill her half-drunk glass from the bottle.]

I get it. Drink up; I'll pay. Your life kinda sucks.

[ Wow, what a good guy. What a keeper.

She seems to get a little watery eyed at that, her smile half there. Broken, tired, fairly drunk at this point. ]

Hey... [ Unsure entirely what to do she reaches out and just... Fistbumps whatever part of his arm she can reach. ] Thanks. You're... you're pretty good.

You're not drunk enough to get complimentary yet. [Cloud's pretty sure there aren't a lot of people who could listen to a story like that and not force liquor down her throat, seriously.] Me and your teddy bear wardog are gonna hafta carry you back to your quarters by the time you're even halfway there.

[ Hawke scoffs, scowling at him. ]

I could be! Not that I need to be drunk to compliment someone. [ She reaches over again, this time to jab him a vindictively. ] You're fun, especially when you're drunk, and I like that in a person.

[ Although the mention of her quarters has her recoil a little back in her chair. ]

I'll let you carry me anywhere but there. I'd rather eat my own fist then go back there. [ That glass he filled all but empties then. ] The bastard who broke my stupid heart is there, I wanna light it on fire. Which is a terrible thing to do in space.

[omg do not remind him, didn't he yell about how much he loved his girlfriend? Please. Let him live.

Especially since her own love life seems to suck also, geez lady, can you not catch a break or something?] Oof, sounds like a real piece of work. Want me to go menace 'em? I can menace. [Cloud with his 5'7" 150 lbs of angelface will go menace the SHIT outta them]

It's the Hawke luck, you know? Can't ever have anything good in life, it always turns to shit at some point or another.

She gives him a good look over, considering. It'd be funny actually, if Cloud started to menace Fenris and Kirk, beyond funny. They deserve it. ]

Yeah, I want you to go menace them. [ Because honestly fuck them right now. ] They're on the Tourist. You'll know the elf when you see him, he's got tattoos all over his body. [ She misses tracing them with her finger, watching them light up faintly. She misses the faint smell of lyrium they always gave off. ] And white hair. He's always grumpy.

[Drums his fingers on the table consideringly] ...is his name Fenris?

[ She groans a little before taking another long drink: ]

[ That's a yes. ]

[Huh. Coulda sworn he had some guy in his memories he called 'Hawke,' but maybe that was her asshole brother.

Cloud hums before throwing back the rest of his drink and sliding out of his chair to stand.] Welp, better get to it.

[ It's complicated, she'll explain that another time. Right now she's too busy getting as drunk as she can.

However she stops drinking the moment he slides back his chair, eyes wide and mouth partly agape. Wait? He's actually going to do it? Part of her thought he had been joking. ]

Really? Right now? [ She is both happy and maybe a little concerned by this. ] I mean... Really?

Yeah, why? You weren't serious? [Okay so he was kind of joking too, but Fenris looks like he can take care of himself in a fight and Hawke is bummed and Cloud is spoiling for a little confrontation anyway.]

Oh no, I'm serious. Didn't think you were. [ She laughs a little, leaning back in her chair. ] Just make sure you come back to tell me all about it, yeah?

What, you're not comin'? Thought you'd want to see it in person.

Well...

[ Part of her desperately doesn't want to be anywhere near Fenris right now, but she can't deny that she wants to see it herself. It'd be one thing if she was going back on her own, another entirely if Cloud is with her. ]

You know what, yeah I'll come.
