Y'All Need to Dream of Dancing Fish
Broadcast: fleetwide
Action: Iskaulit or Vanquish
When: 27 September.
[Because it's a matter of survival for the fae, Katie learned to deal with her own nightmares very early on. It's one of those issues when your existence straddles the line between the mundane world and the dream one and you see both at once. It can be fun. It can be beautiful. It can also kind of suck ass.
What happened to the planet below is still a source of roiling nausea for her, but she is by far not the only one dreaming of it now.
In one sense, it's good that the scale of destruction is so vast that the human subconscious has difficulty replicating it as echoes in the confined space of the ships themselves, but it doesn't stop her from catching glimpses of horrified faces in the corner of her eye. Ghostly echoes of copper-skinned victims before their death. Corridors suddenly filling with flame and screams. See, that one's jarring as hell and she has difficulty pretending she can't see it. It's enough that she excuses herself from polite company and locks herself in the Vanquish's personnel room, a ball of wool in her hands and a twitchy cat slinking at her heels. Licorice can see it all, too. That's the problem with getting too close to the fae. She wonders idly if Sam is having issues.
She can't exactly make an announcement to demand everyone get over it already. You can't get over something like this. It's healthy to go through that grief. But if a corridor happens to fill with fire while she's in it, she'll burn. And it's her job to try and curb this kind of thing, the way she ... totally didn't do that in Bath. Oh, well.
She does what she can.]
Would anyone like a dream catcher? [She holds up a contraption made from baby blue wool and shells, shaking it a little. It looks decidedly average.] Personally speaking, I've always found the ones I didn't make myself far more useful. But you could always try them out and see what happens. Might help with the nightmares none of you are having.
Speaking of non-issues, I suppose this is what being a personnel officer is all about. I really do need my Doctor Is In sign, don't I?
She'll be mostly in her personnel room on the Vanquish because these things take time to make, though she'll visit the Iskaulit later to hang out in the fox park and recharge.]
Video
Are you familiar with the Vanquish?
Video
I haven't hung out on that ship much, but I can definitely find it!
Video
Then come on over when you've got some time. We'll see what we can do.

[She'll leave the personnel room door wide open, then, so Wrath can find her easily enough, threading through another dreamcatcher. There's a large pile of blankets folded against one wall, and a stack of blue woolen dolls lining the window out. A bunch of doodles and drawings, a mountain of shells, and a couple of finished dreamcatchers, and Katie. Welcome to her... very professional... counselling room?
(She's never used it for counselling, actually. But it makes for a great crafts room.)]
Video
Hi!
Wow, this is an awesome room. Looks like a lot of fun in here. And drawings! I didn't know you did drawings. That's awesome.
Video
I do! I've been trying to get into the art field at home, but nobody takes me seriously. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy myself in the meantime, right? [Never mind that some of those doodles are anti-possession glyphs. Comes with having hunters as unlikely friends. She pats the far side of the table where there's a couple empty chairs.] Pull a seat up or flop on the blankets, I don't mind. Or the fox might like the blankets. Is he part of security, then?
Video
Thanks! [She flops, because it's damn nice to be able to do that, still. And she takes Snuggles's vest off. He does a little circle around the room and then goes to say hello to Katie.] He is! Officer Snuggles is our Vulpine Unit.
Video
Video
Oh yeah, he's great for morale. He keeps an eye on people and can tell if they're getting distressed. And he also hunts all the vermin in the vents. He works hard.
Action, whoops
[Keep him distracted and out of the way while they play with string. One easily distracted person in the room is enough.]
Action
You have vermin problems here too?
Action
[Speaking of which, she gives a short sing-song whistle, and a sleepy black head pokes its way out of a pile of wool. Meet Licorice.]
Feel free to pull all that wool out, I'll be right back.
[Just gonna trot out to the kitchen for said snacks with Licorice at her heels. When she comes back, it'll be alone, a small plate of mince in hand. The cat is eating elsewhere.]
Action
Aw, hello kitty!
[New goal: make friends with Licorice. Though that'll have to be later, it seems.]
Will do.
[And she'll have a fine selection of very colorful yarn out by the time Katie gets back.]
Action
I keep meaning to go shopping and find some more colours, but I'm easily distracted, sadly. [She pats the nearest pile of baby blue wool.] Though I have to admit, I'm partial to this shade. I had a beanie I loved as a little girl made of it.

[Time to measure out a large section of blue wool, then, to lay out with the rest of the colours, and she hauls the bag of shells up to the table corner and leaves it wide open.] These are all from a lot of places. Seems no matter where we go, every beach has colour you can take home with you.
[At some point early during the lesson, Licorice will slink back in the door and stare at Mr Snuggles before taking up space on the opposite side of the blankets. Katie tells her not to be judgey.]
Action
[Wrath makes note of how much wool, and grins at the seashells.] It's so neat, seeing all the different pretty shells. I gotta start collecting them too.
Action
[She digs her fingers into the shells and rattles them around a bit just because.] I was considering bracelets or such, but dream catchers seem more interesting right now.
[Well. More useful really.]
Re: Action
Maybe there'll be enough for both? Because these would make really neat-sounding bracelets. [She considers.] One of my friends used to have bracelets made from shell casings, and those sounded cool too.
Action
Shell casings, really? That sounds... [She considers, smile picking up a bit.] Interesting. I wish I had some.
Re: Action
It's even better when they're you're shell casings, so you know when you shot them all off. But it wouldn't be that had to get, I think. I mean, we'd need some ballistic weapons.
