[Falling asleep was easy. Exhaustion had played such a huge part of things when Ignis's head had touched his pillow that night after watching the meteor strike Lyuku. Waking up, on the other hand, is difficult. Everything feels stiff and he's not sure that he really wants to face it. Suddenly, he understands how Noctis has felt on more than one occasion.

A sound to his left catches his attention and he turns his head in that direction, pulling on the scar tissue around his left eye, nose and forehead.]

The Six take me... Gladio, is that you?

[No, this isn't Zegnatus. No bed in the dread fortress was this...comfortable isn't the world. Familiar. This bed is familiar, but not the bed he had in Insomnia. It takes a minute as he attempts to open his sightless eyes out of habit.]

I feel I must apologize to anyone who has been worried about me since the excitement with the inhabitants of Lyuku. I appear to have gone back to Eos for a short period of time.

Yes, those would be the creatures. I would honestly rather get into a fight with a Chocobo than a Malboro alone. Although, fire magic does help.

You know what's also good? Gravity spells. I took on a monster of a Malboro one time and I totally would've been plant food if not for Graviga.

I'm unfamiliar with that form of magic. I fear that Eos is rather limited when it comes to the mystical side of things.

As such, I suppose my group relies on my tactical planning more than if we had more magic at hand.

Well, tactics are good, too. It was just never really my strong suit.

You remind me of a friend that is missing. He is very similar to you physically. And he is not very good with tactics either, but he does listen to me in battle.

Makes sense to me. So long as you can imagine what's goin' on in your head, good advice is still good advice. That's more or less what tactics are anyway.

I can see light and dark a bit, though shapes elude me. It's not enough that I would wager on that sense alone, but my senses of smell and hearing work just as well as they did before the incident.

[The Incident. That's a good way to not talk about how he's gone blind.]

And there's nothing wrong with my instincts either. That's all one needs to really plot out a reasonable attack plan. Eyesight just makes it easier.

[Well. At least Zack gets it well enough. "The incident" is a phrase he's heard used plenty for lots of unsavory stuff. Sometimes it's all you need to say.]

Do you know if it's permanent, or can it be fixed?

[The Incident is a perfectly fine euphemism for pretty much any unpleasant situation.]

I was assured that my eyesight would either return or it wouldn't. I suppose that if some magical healing could have been applied right away, it would be a different story, but it's too late to hope foolishly that it can be remedied.

Too much hope for the impossible can be a very bad thing.

Fair enough, and there's nothin' wrong with preparing for the worst. But don't forget that a little bit of hope for a maybe is still okay.

My position in my group of friends has become the "practical one". The others fulfill other roles, but I always weigh everything that I hear and balance my options carefully. I am fine with my place.

It's not that I don't hope. It's that I am unafraid to face that hope is not enough in this instance.

Hmm... well, if you have to be practical about it, then we'll just have to be hopeful on your behalf!

So I hope you find a way to get your sight back one day. Because that would be awesome.
