koujaku awakens as elegantly as anyone does on this ship apparently; groggy, confused, and with a weird thing implanted in his head that tells him that he's in space and he suddenly knows way more about it than he cares to.

his first thought is to look for aoba - ask for aoba? people are listening, right? he could care less about the other three that had been hanging out at his best friends place the night before, won't bother asking about them when he finally addresses the network properly.

on his shoulder is a small red bird who looks to be asleep. and he will remain as such because i have no idea if he even works here yet shh. feel free to ask about him though and why he has cute little sandals on.

If this is what Platinum Jail is supposed to be like, then Toue's got one messed up sense of humor. [ literally no one knows what you're talking about koujaku. he sighs, furrowing his brows, ] Anyway, if you're out there, Aoba, give me a call ASAP - my coil isn't working, so I guess we're stuck communicating through this.

[ a beat, and then: ] And if anyone has seen a guy with blue hair running around, point me in his direction, yeah? Thanks. [ koujaku outtie. ]

So you just woke up here too, huh? [ they're even taking kids for this bullshit? that's messed up, man. ] Have you seen anyone else around?

Not yet.

[He glances around, as if he might spot one in the corner of his eye now that Koujaku's mentioned it.]

But it's a big ship. We could look more, if you want to see if your friends are here.

Couldn't hurt, I guess.

[ a beat, and he remembers what steven said earlier. ] I'm Koujaku, by the way. And I'm... not really sure what you meant by gems. Like the stones? 'Cause I haven't seen anything like that around.

[realhumanbeing]

Well-- yeah. Kinda. But they're people too, they just-- have gems on them.

[He hoists his shirt up to show off his stomach. There's a gem there, a bright pink quartz, right where his bellybutton ought to be. That demonstrated, he grins up at him.]

And I'm Steven! Nice to meet you, Koujaku.

[ well that sure is a thing that just happened. ]

Whoa. I uh - can't say I've seen anyone like that around, but I'll keep an eye out. [ weird. anyway.... ]

Yeah, likewise. Not that this is the best place to meet someone, but I guess it could be worse.

Yeah. It's a nice ship!

[Much nicer than the last one he was in. Which reminds him . . . Steven steps forward, glancing around, his brows furrowing in worry.]

We should explore.

[ this is the only space ship he's been on, he has nothing to compare it to.

koujaku nods, offering a small smile. ]

Yeah. Let's stick together, okay? We'll be able to cover more ground that way - and with any luck we'll find Aoba, or your... gem friends.

What's Aoba look like?

He's about this tall, [ he motions to about eye-level with his hand. ] Blue hair - you'll definitely know him if you see him. Oh! And he's usually hanging around with his Allmate, Ren - he's a small black Pomeranian.

What do your friends look like? I mean... aside from the gems.

What's an Allmate?

[Oh! The Gems, though, he can do that. Ticking them off on his fingers, he replies:]

Pearl is really tall and thin, and her skin is pale, and her hair is reddish pink. Garnet is really tall too, but she's not as thin as Pearl, she's more bigger? And her hair is black and in a square. She wears sunglasses. And Amethyst is my height, and she's purple, and has long hair!

[ how do you not know what an allmate is, child? what strange planet do you live on!

just kidding. koujaku motions to the tiny bird on his shoulder, ] They're kind of like mini computers shaped like animals, with AI. Beni here is my allmate. [ but he's... not working. which is weird.

koujaku can't help but chuckle as steven describes the gems, nodding once he's finished. ] Sounds like you got a lot of cute lady friends to look out for, huh? I'll make sure to keep an eye out for them, too, if you help me search for Aoba. [ he extends his hand. fist bump??? ] Deal?

[realhumanbeing]

[He stares up at Beni, delighted and intrigued by such a thing. The bird doesn't move, which is disappointing, but perhaps it's off. Or tired. Or both.

In the meantime, there's a bro fistbump to return!]

Deal! Can you talk to your allmate? Is it like a buddy, or's it like a cell phone?

[ fistbump complete, koujaku reaches up to take beni off his shoulder and kneels down more to steven's level so he can see him properly. he looks - and feels - just like a real bird would. ]

Yeah, he has his own personality and everything. If I can get him to turn back on, I'll show you - he can be kind of grumpy, though.

[realhumanbeing]

[Very gently, Steven strokes two fingers along Beni's head and back.]
