[ there's no need to address the last few weeks. others have done it, offering drinks and comforting words or just a down to business attitude. steve would have normally gone for the latter but today is an exception.

there are boxes scattered around the starstruck's cargo bay and it seems he is slowly unwrapping them all and unpacking a collection of decorations. they're not strictly christmas decorations but one must make do with what one is given.

and speaking of which - ]

I know the last few weeks have been difficult but I also know we're approaching the holidays. Those can be a little rough around here.

[ but look at him gesturing to those boxes ]

I thought we might start making it a little easier. I got these at the Kayanni system a couple of months ago. If you want to take a box for your ship, you're more than welcome to.

[ lord knows they have too much tinsel. ]

But my newer shipmates are... odd. Pavel told me they decorated the Tourist with corpses in my absence. So, you know.

Sorry, sorry, I'm not laughing at you. But you know I shoot lasers from my eyes, right? I appreciate the sentiment. I just think I'm going to let Jarvis go over everything with bleach a few times before I head back and give them a stern talking-to.

I know you do. but you know, it's not nice letting a lady do all her work alone. trust me, I work with some of the fiercest ones

well, you know, I think that all in all, we're in our rights. maybe people could use a little insufferable from time to time.

I always kind of figured if anyone moved, he would move onto the Tourist. I've been there longer, after all.

[ but then again, steve is extremely biased towards kara to begin with. ]

what ship is he stationed at?

[ so he can. you know. keep watch. erm. ]

The Goldstone. It's a nice ship, and I don't think I'll push for him to move yet. It might be nice for him to have a place that feels like his for awhile.

I hope the Tourist will go back to feeling like it's yours again, too.

[ after all, it sounds as if things have been...odd, to say the least. ]

as much as a place like that can be called home.

"Home" as a concept is more about people for me these days, anyway.

I think I know what you mean.

[ he knows what she means, even if he doesn't say it with the same certainty he feels. everything about steve is still a shade held back, a shade humble. her experience interest him more than his speaking about his own.

but he knows those things matter in interactions, the balance and so. ]

for the longest time I wasn't sure where home is. I don't think I ask myself that as much.

If pressed, I think I'd say National City, but I don't think that's really true. But it's hard when what you think of as home only exists in your memories.

[ he agrees. it's not the same for him as it is for her but in many ways, it's just the same experience. ]

In my home, the first man has yet to walk on the moon. Nevermind all of this.

[ space travel. different planets. ]

we're twenty years behind even knowing going into space is possible.

This is more like a family vacation for me. But every place has its reasons for developing how it does.
