[Somewhere, many many Earths away, Barry Allen says goodbye to his family and the woman he loves and steps through into the speed force. All that really exists in the speed force is running, so that's what he does - he runs, as fast as he can and as far as he can, until he doesn't have to run anymore.

And on December 1st, in his room on the First Breath, Barry opens his eyes for the first time in thirty days. It's disorienting at first, not knowing immediately where he is or that he's not in the speed force anymore, so he instinctively does the first thing he can think of - he runs. He blazes through the halls of the ship in an endless look, a burst of red and god lightning that can't be caught and disrupts everything around him.

Pro: He is not running fast enough to accidentally phase himself through the hull of the ship and out to die in the vacuum of space, nor is he phasing through doors into private areas he shouldn't be in.

Con: Pretty much everything is getting blown everywhere, because running at superspeed is not subtle or unnoticeable.

Eventually he'll skid to a stop or someone will stop him but apologies to the other members of the crew - you're all getting quite the wake up call this morning.]

[And after he is caught, calmed down, and realizes where he is, he'll eventually make his way back to his bunk to try and reorient himself in general. Which is when an awkward looking Barry will appear over a network because he has a very important question to ask that probably shouldn't wait.]

So, hey guys. Sorry about being radio silent but I was ... out for a while. A really long while.

[That's mostly an apology to Kara and Mon-El - he doesn't really think anyone else beyond his crew was looking for him. He needs to be better at making friends.]

Anyway - has anyone else had one of those weird coma dreams where they go home and actually live some of their life and come back again? And if so, am I the only one who finds that super weird and disorienting, or can we all agree that that pretty much sucks?

I haven't had one, but I know about people who have. [ She frowns, watching him for a moment, instincts in overdrive. ] Are you alright, Barry?

Yeah, he's the best. He's one of the smartest people I know.

[Barry just knows a lot of smart people so that's why he's not THE smartest person he knows.]

There was this guy called the Music Meister who put you in this weird coma, and then jumped over to my Earth. Mon-El and J'onn brought you over so that we could try and figure everything out and then I wound up in a coma too, and that's where the musical happened.

[A beat.]

It was a coma dream within a coma dream. Weird.

So...

Does this happen? I'm so confused. Did that really happen to you, or did you just dream it?

Yeah, it was weird. There was this fugitive you guys chased to our Earth and Kara was in trouble, so you and J'onn brought her over to see if we could help figure it out. She's fine now, though.

...And remarkably handy at crafting lipsticks.

[ honestly, he did a bang-up job on her drugged shades. ]

Not an Avenger, no.

[Is a superhero though, but he's side tracked by ... ]

What's a Hulk?

I don't really know, but he does sound like he's supposed to be big. We didn't have Avengers back home even though some worlds with my team do have Avengers. The multiverse is complicated. [Did you need someone to tell you that, Barry?]

Good to know. I guess I'll just be on the look out for possibly more surprise comas in my future.

[He doesn't sound super thrilled about that, but at least he knows they happen now.]

I'm Barry, by the way.

Physically? Yeah. Mentally, I'm a little thrown for a loop.

[It's weird to have been asleep for thirty days, and also having dreamed up a few months of his life.]

Are you okay? I heard things while I was asleep were a little ... intense?

I've heard it happens. You'll let me know if you need anything, won't you?

[ But there's not much she can offer other than that - and her nose wrinkles, a little on the edge. ]

It was... Well. It's good that it's over, I think that's the best thing to say about it all.

I...feel like I would have remembered that. But you got new memories, right? So, you're from the future now!

[And there was Tyrion, frowning as he is working on one of his devices. Or he was, until Barry swept through at top speed and sent ... everything everywhere.]

[Tyrion gets off the ground, where he had fallen over, and looks around at the mess everywhere.

Then he clicks on his communicator.]

Welcome back, Barry.

[He shrugs a bit because it was weirdly specific coma dream, but at the same time ... ]

I really hope it is. Because if it is, it means we beat Savitar.

[Even if it ended with him going into the speed force and never seeing Iris again, at least Iris lived.]

[He blinks at first, and then his head tips to the side and he shrugs.]

Given how Cisco feels about aesthetics, that actually doesn't surprise me.

[Someone didn't need to.]

Oh, tell me about it. Alternate universes do nothing but make my life complicated.

From what I've heard I can't help but agree with you.

[But he's glad she's okay, and a little disappointed that he wasn't there to help.]

Although I confess I was on more familiar terms with an associate of his. [ well, that's stiffly said considering the friendship between the two in question. ] A Mister Winn Schott.

Savi—Wait, so, how? And what happened? Did—?

[ she can't bring herself to say "did Iris still die" but it's there anyway, unspoken ]

[He gives a small shrug in return.]

Honestly, I don't know man. This was officially the weirdest coma dream I've ever had and I was in a coma for nine months when I got my powers.

[It takes him a minute, to run himself out, but eventually he responds.]

Hey, Captain. Sorry about the mess.

Oh yeah, I know Winn. I mean, we're from different Earths, but I got stuck on his once and he helped me get home. He's a good guy.

[Barry, Peggy is probably going to have so many questions about that ... ]

[Barry glances around for a moment, before pulling her back towards his room so they can sit.]

It turns out ... Savitar was me. Or a version of me, anyway - a time remnant that didn't fade the way it was supposed to and got stuck in the speed force and just ... slowly went insane.

Oh Rao. I mean, I've heard some weird stuff but that has to be the weirdest. What's a time remnant, exactly?

Wow. But I do have you beat. I was in a coma or something like it for decades before I got my powers. The powers were unrelated though. [Welcome to much older-than-he-looks Mon-El.]

But I don't think it was just a dream. Kara and Winn did the same thing and went from not remembering me to remembering me and I know the things they saw were things that happened.
