[Vash hated this part of being a captain. Not that it really had much to do with being a captain but more with being a friend. He takes a deep breath and then starts the broadcast.]

I'm sorry to announce everyone, but Makie has returned home. It doesn't look like she, ah, was able to leave anything behind for people. [There's a pause in there as she did leave her shamisen and her pike, but those were staying on the Twin Roses.] If you would like to talk; I don't know, share stories or something-- I'll be at the memory tree that she started. [Seemed a bit sad to add her own name to it now.] I'm happy to talk to anyone if you would like some company.

[True to his word Vash will spend most of his day at the memory tree. Before doing his shift at The Space Bar and ending the night back on the Twin Roses.]

I'm sorry, dude. Were you guys close?

Well, I like to think so. She watched over me while I was in a coma and I trusted her. I was proud to call her a member of my crew.

Heh, [He chuckles softly.] Although, I'm still not overly sure how happy she was to be part of my crew. [He knows damn well how annoying he can be at times.]

Oh...well, that sucks.

Ohhhh, that sounds like it's a story.

[Makie.... The only other person here who really understood what it was like for him - a fish out of water, out of time, out of everything.

He should be happy that she's returned home, but knowing what is coming for their country, he can only hope that she survives it. He wonders if she truly went home - a lot of information seems contradictory on that point.]

...Thank you for telling us, Vash-san. I'm sorry you've lost one of your crew.

What a memory tree?

[Vash snickers softly.] Let's just say to someone as, hm, [He pauses to think of the right word.] classy as Makie my introduction can be a bit of a mess. [And by that he means she efficiently killed someone trying to hurt Vash in front of him and he cried about it right before they merged ships.]

[It's the -san at the end of his name that clues Vash in that he and Makie may have some things in common.] Thank you.

Were you two close at all?

It's a tree that they had in another world she visited. [What was the place called?] Adstringendum. When someone went home they use to attach their names or little paper monuments to the tree. As a way to remember those people.

She and a couple others started the tradition here too.

[That actually sounded like a nice thing to do.]

Oh. That's actually kind of cool.

[Keith thought about Allura and Shay.]

I might stop by.

Wow, yeah I can see why you would rub someone the wrong way if they were classy. I mean, I love you like a brother but - you know. You got your own strengths.

And weaknesses. [He supplies with a helpful smile. He knows what he's like.]

I hope I was starting to grow a bit on her. She watched over me while I was in a coma during the last planet. Not saying she wouldn't do that because it's the right thing, but I like to believe she worried about me.

That would be good! It's on the Iskaulit. I'll be hanging around there most of the day and can have some paper on hand if you'd like to add any names.

[Keith gave Vash a small smile.]

Oh no, Makie? [She was a mysterious woman, and not one Sorey knew as well as he would've liked, but she always seemed so peaceful (even that one time when she'd been shot.] She...was sick, wasn't she?

No problem.

[An Vash will be there for awhile as promised. Mostly just relaxing by sitting under a tree and reading a book. Trying to stay quiet and peaceful out of respect for Makie's memory.]

[It takes some time before Vash answers. He didn't know Makie as well back then so it takes him some time to recall if he was sick or not.]

I think she might have been sick before coming here, but I'm not too sure. I wasn't her captain back then I'm afraid.

[Keith didn't show up right away afterwards, but he did eventually. As he looked it over, he made a quick mental note to mention this place to Hunk if he wanted to do something for Shay, and then maybe the rest of the team, too, if they wanted to put Allura's name in. For now, though, he'd let it alone and just look.]

This is nice.

[It was quiet here. Keith liked that.]

Aww, I'm sure she did. You've got a way of worming yourself into people's hearts like that.

[Vash puts the book aside when he hears someone arrive.] Glad you could make it! It is very nice in here, isn't it?

[A bit too quiet for his tastes usually, but he can see the appeal easily.] Feel free to check out the names others have put, or just relax a bit, or if you want any help adding names I have some extra paper I brought with me here.

Hah! [He laughs like the fact that he can be annoying is a good thing.] I do tend to wiggle like a worm sometimes! [He knows Sokka wasn't being literal, but it's fun to pretend he was and Vash could use a laugh or two.]

[He'll let Vash have this one because he's has a sad day. ]

....Yeah, sure buddy. Just like that.

... Don't worry. Makie's gonna be just fine.

[He can at least give Vash some comfort, there.]

She'd been from the same place I'd been stuck in, for a while. She's heading back to Lilly and the others -- somewhere she'll be alright.

[He's sad she's left, but... he has a feeling he'll see her again.

He always seems to, right? One of those kinds of friends in his life.]

Either way; wherever she is. I hope she's happy either.

So you think she went back to that world instead of her own?

[IF the people who are gone are sent home. Vash still isn't completely sure about that.]

I'm sure that she is, Vash.
