[ Eithan's standing in the music room of the Iskaulit, in front of a certain piano - slightly alien, due to its many extra keys, but still very recognizable. He waves for the camera, gives a little half-hearted salute with two fingers, and smiles. ]

Hey everyone.

So, as you've probably seen before, this is the piano room on the Iskaulit. /[He gestures with a sweeping hand. ] For anyone who didn't know, or maybe you're new to the fleet, Belthazar and Winn made the piano together. And it's been here, and anyone's allowed to come play it whenever. Both Belthazar and Winn are... gone now. But the piano's still here, and still totally free to whoever. Anyone at all. Seriously. Music's important, and we need all the nice things we can get around here, you know?

[ Eithan looks a little bit downcast, but only for a split second - blink and you'll miss it, honestly. He's back to winning smiles and business after that. ]

Thing is, like most nice things, it needs maintenance if it's gonna stay operational, properly tuned, all that. And uh, well, luckily, I know how to do that. [ His smile turns to a grin. ] So unless someone else really wants the job, honestly? I'd really like to take that over. I'll make sure everything's workin', tuned right, and soundin' like it should.

I'm gonna set this place up with shelves so we can keep sheet music and theory books in here, too. Whatever we find on planets and stuff. You know? I've also got this... not-guitar-but-really-close thing that I got from that space station hotel resort a while back. I'm gonna leave it in here too, for anyone to use it if they want. And of course, I'll keep that maintained and tuned, too. I've got plenty of strings if they need changin'. It'll be fine.

And on top of that? Well, if anyone's interested... I'd be willin' to start givin' lessons. [ Nod! ] Piano, guitar... weird otherworld or alien kinds of guitars... [ He remembers past systems, thank you very much ] Those are what I'm best at, but like... if it's an instrument with strings, I can help. [ He's getting more and more excited as he talks the nerd ] Oh! Percussion, too. Not... that we have a set of any kind yet. That I know of. But if we ever got somethin'! I could do that too. And of course if anyone wants a crash course in music theory stuff, that's also on the table.

... Heh. I think I've probably gone on long enough. Point is! We've got a music room, and people should use it, and I'm gonna be the one keepin' it all workin'. And if you wanna learn more about music, I wouldn't mind helpin' at all.

[ He nods, smiling one last time for the camera. ]

Oh, I'm glad someone knows how to maintain it. I've been going in to play it now and then - Belthazar and I were learning it together before he left - but I have no idea how to care for it properly, and it's been sounding a little weird lately.

If you're willing, I'd love to continue learning how to play. It can be pretty soothing, and I like the challenge.

Yeah, I actually just finished tunin' it, so it should be better now! But if you think it's still soundin' a little weird next time you're here, I'll look at it again.

[ His voice softens, a little - grateful. It's almost like his smile is audible. ]

I appreciate it. I do have that one book that Belthazar found for it, but it only covers the basics. You can only wing it so far after that.

By chance do you know anything about transcribing music? I've learned a few songs from home by playing it by ear, but sheet music seems so important to learning properly.

I do! I can help you with that, too. Honestly, learnin' how to write and transcribe helps a lot with the rest of it. Definitely helped me improve.

Just... while you're first startin' out with it? Be prepared to play the same like, two measures over and over and over again until you get it written down just right. Heh.

That's alright. Sorey and I have been translating and transcribing ancient languages since we were practically babies. It can be just as tedious, meticulously scrawling the same series of symbols over and over... in that sense, music is far less complicated. The notes are relaxingly simple.

[seriously dude have you seen Ancient Tongue? The letters are a goddamn disaster.]

[ Ah, figures... Sorey is such a nerd, it's endearing. pot calling the kettle black much? ]

Oh man, yeah, I can't even imagine tryin' to translate ancient languages... definitely not somethin' I could ever do. Bet you won't have a problem with readin' music at all!

Everyone does have their own strengths and weaknesses, after all. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it, then. I could certainly use the distraction.
