Canon Updates Can Be Hard to Do

Huntress

[After Lance left, Keith came out of his room to refamiliarize himself with the ship. It was a strange feeling. He knew it hadn't been as long as he thought it was, but he had so much new stuff crammed into his head. What felt like months, maybe a whole year, while he was only gone for maybe a week? It was a strange sensation.

Shipmates would first notice that he wasn't wearing the familiar white and red armor, but something darker... black with purple, and it had a hood he could pull up over his head. He still had the Paladin armor, as it had remained in his room during his disappearance, but he no longer felt right wearing it.

He visited the bridge (the pilot station), the lounge, and a few other places. He found the wrapped gift in the cargo bay.

He wasn't sure how to feel about it, but it was definitely his knife. He attached the sheath to the back of his belt in its usual place, intent on heading out with no word to anyone about it.]

Iskaulit

[Keith spent most of his time on the Iskaulit in the gym, working with his new gift... a large dagger that had a glowing emblem on the hilt. He seemed frustrated by something about it as he worked with it.

Outside of the gym, he visited the lecture hall to check on the information stash, and he also stopped by The Melting Pot for some food. Eventually, he wound up at Team Voltron's Lion's Den, but he hovered at the door, uncertain about entering.]

Planet

[Snowmobiles? Racing? Consider it done. Keith was using the speed and racing to clear his head. In some ways, it worked even better than physical training. The idea of letting everything go from his mind to focus on not crashing was a good way to get his head on straight, right? Plus, it was almost symbolic the way the wind from racing along blew away all his cares.

That didn't mean he wasn't up for a race or two. In fact, he relished the idea of doing it, taking on challenges that might seem a little crazy.]

[Lance tends to drop by the Lion's Den every day, even if he doesn't have anything in particular to do there. Sometimes he just lazes about and reads books, or works on sprucing up the place some more, or even just naps. It feels good to have their own little space now, since they don't have the castle ship.

It's a good place to get lost in his thoughts, which can either be a good or a bad thing these days. (Sometimes it's feeling like it's getting to be more of the latter again.)

He's just readjusting some garland on a wall when he hears footsteps at the door. Lance turns to greet whoever it is, but the door remains closed.]

Whoever's there, don't just stand there all creepy like, just come in!

Melting pot

[Lumière has sure noticed you've not been around much, Keith- he makes it his business to know how the people he cares about are doing. So, he'll grin happily at the sight of the youngster coming into the bistro, hopping over. ]

Hello there, mon ami! It's good to see you again!

[Shiro quickly returns to his daily routine, which includes his morning run. They've landed on a nice planet this time, that's true, but the snow doesn't make running easy, and while he wouldn't mind the challenge in another occasion, Procyon is coming with him and he's still too small. He sinks in the snow.

So running on the Iskaulit it is, and of course that means Shiro easily spots Keith at the gym. Puppy by his side and hair tied into a bun, he enters the gym and quickly recognizes the blade.]

It seems I'm not the only one that got a gift from Atroma, huh.

[Keith'd been missing for a while there, so when Pete saw him headed into the cargo hold, he decided it'd be best to check in. Of course, once he got there, said pilot was holding a very unfriendly looking knife. Hm.]

O-kay, that's... definitely for something other than cooking.

[Keith pushed open the door. It was Lance, after all, and they had decided as a group that invited guests were okay.]

Hey...

[That was right, Lance. Keith had waited for an invitation to come in...]

[Keith gave the candlestick a weak smile.]

Hey, Lumière. It's good to see you, too.

[He sounded tired and maybe a little depressed.]

How are things going?

[Keith looked back over his shoulder at the voice, and paused in his training. He nodded a little, looking at it almost angrily for a moment, and then slid it back into its sheath.]

What did you get?

Yeah... it is.

[Really, Peter. Stating the obvious much? Keith made sure it was securely fastened to the back of his belt.]

It's... kind of a family heirloom.

Prompto, Kaname, and Keith go snowmobiling... and find a bear...

[Keith was definitely on board with the whole snowmobile thing once he found out it was even a thing. Sticky marshmallow snow was still snow in some form, and snowmobiles were basically the equivalent of winterized ATVs, which were the wheeled versions of his hovercraft back home, so he was on this like white on... snow...

He also had discovered several systems ago that his racing got good ratings, lots of sponsors, and a copious amount of credits. Between ATVs and small sporty shuttles, he'd done it a couple of times already in a few systems, so he was going to use that to his advantage once again. It was between his bet races that he found the other two interested in joining him out in the woods.

And, of course, he couldn't turn down a challenge.]

Alright. I know the perfect spot we can head to for a good race. You up for this?

[More than anything at the moment, Keith was just glad for the familiar distraction from his recent perceived trip home. He'd been missing from the Fleet for a week, and it felt like he'd been home for almost a year. Things had happened there, and he wanted to avoid thinking about it for a while.]

[He's going to throttle you if he finds out about that line of thinking, Keith. Throttle.

Lance smiles brightly at seeing who's entering the room, though.]

Hey, babe. You know the door doesn't bite.

[Tired and depressed are things that Lumière will Not Allow to exist in his presence. Begone, foul demons and so on. ]

For me? I cannot complain. How about you, you have been absent for a while, no?

Well, fair enough. Unrelated request? As your new lab support...guy...please don't let anyone show up in my lab with heirloom-related injuries. Please? I'd consider it a personal favor.

[Just because he knows how to treat knife wounds doesn't mean he wants to, alright]

[Prompto didn't care about credits or sponsors or any of that. If he wanted some cash, he'd just grab some extra work. This was plain old fun. And he did say he'd do something fun with Keith at his birthday party.]

[No comment on the hair? Shiro is surprised, thankful too he must admit. And since Procyon is running to Keith to do some good old sniffing, Shiro keeps his answer simple.]

Yeah...

[Keith shrugged, trying to play it off. Lance had been pretty insistent already about the whole "you're still a Paladin, Keith" thing already. He was reluctant to bring it up again. He didn't want that hanging between them.]

What are you up to?

Seems like it. We were missing for like a week, I think. Hard to tell. I feel like it's been longer, but that's probably because we got some new memories while we were gone. Definitely more than what would fit in a week.

[He rubbed the back of his head.]

It's a weird feeling.

[Keith stared at Pete for a second.]

I don't know what kind of impression I've given you, but I don't exactly go around randomly stabbing people.

[Keith might have taken that comment a little too seriously.]

[Keith had considered it. It was odd that it came back like that. But he also was kind of distracted.]

A dog?

[He crouched down and put his hand out for the animal to sniff.]

Why not something from home?

[Okay... he had to say it...]

Unless the extra hair counts...

[He was trying, okay? Keith wasn't feeling up for much joking, but he was trying.]

Fixing up the decorations. It's getting close to Christmas! I want everything to look juuuuust right.

[He reaches out his arms, making some grabby motions with his hands. Hug time, Keith!]

[Keith managed a small smile and stepped forward, accepting the hug. He rested his chin on Lance's shoulder, looping his arms around the other teen's waist.]

Yeah... Shiro's probably going to want to have a party or something. I'm guessing you want one, too, huh?

[He sounded a little amused, at least, and not grumpy about it.]

Maybe we should do it here. There's a lot of room, and we've already decorated.

[They were still working on the furniture, but they could probably hijack some spare tables from one of the restaurants or something.]

I was thinking that. I think we can definitely set up this place for a good party. It isn't Christmas without a Christmas party and gift exchanging and stuff after all.

[Lance hugs Keith close to him, feeling immediately better. Not that he was in a bad mood at the moment to begin with, but he feels better getting to hold him like this anyway. Lance has always been a little bit of the clingy type when it comes to physical affection.]

[Keith actually didn't mind the hugging. It was nice... comforting. So he went along with it easily enough. He was actually good with hand-holding, too. Though, after their little week 'vacation' from the Fleet, he seemed a bit hesitant to initiate it himself, even if he pretty much always reciprocated it when Lance reached out first.

He sighed into the hug, nodding a little.]

Yeah... it is a good place for it.

[He wasn't so sure about the 'not Christmas without a party' thing, but then, he hadn't really had a lot of Christmases as a kid, either. His parents had celebrated when he was really young, but, after his mom left, that sort of tapered off, and then completely stopped for a while once he was on his own. It wasn't until he met Shiro that he started celebrating any holidays again.]

[Eventually, hopefully Keith would get back into initiating it sometimes on his part. But Lance was perfectly fine with waiting. He knew his boyfriend was going through a lot, and he'd be patient with him. Besides, he felt lucky enough that he wasn't being pushed away.

He glances around, then up, and grins.]

Look what we're standing under again.

[Keith turned his head a little towards Lance, noticing him looking up.]

Hm?

[He looked up as well. Oh...

That felt so long ago, and, yet, it had only been a few weeks. So much had changed, and, yet... he was trying really hard not to think about that. What had changed, what he'd done... He lightly pressed his cheek against Lance's, pushing everything else out of his mind for the moment.]

Yeah... look at that.

[It was a nice reminder, actually. And he knew he needed something like that... something to get back to what they'd been before.]

[He needs this as well, the comfort and familiarity of it. And more so, the knowledge and confidence that he isn't going to be losing the boy in front of him anytime soon. Lance pulls his head back just enough to readjust and lean back in, pressing his lips against Keith's in a firm kiss.]
