[The video opens on Thor. For those who've met him, it might take half a second to realise that, because his appearance has markedly changed. His long hair has been hacked short, and he's wearing an eyepatch over his right eye. It's weird. It doesn't even have a strap. Even his armor is different, much less flashy and looking worse for wear than the other silver set he'd had previously.

The look on his face is a bit harried, but he starts off with a long drawn out:]

So... [This just had to be his first address to the network, didn't it. Thanks, fate.] Hello. I had heard before that people in this place could fall asleep and end up back home for a while. It seems I now count myself among them. I have to say it's much more confusing to experience yourself. I think it's been only a few days here.

[He rubs at his chin a bit, looking off to the side in thought for a moment. This whole business on top of everything else makes him feel downright exhausted.]

Doesn't feel like it, though. [Thor returns his attention to the communicator, with a little shrug and less of a pensive look.] I'll add it to my list of grievances against the Atroma. I'm sure we'll have a library's worth to throw at them before the end.

If anything has happened in the last few days, I would be glad to hear it. If we haven't yet met, I am Thor, son of Odin, God of Thunder, and king of Asgard.

[It still sounds strange to him, though he trucks through it as gamely as he can.]

Rogers, Natasha, I need to talk to you both.

Oh-- [He smiles a bit, though it's a shade deadpan.] And happy new year.

[Later, Thor sets about re-familiarising himself with the Blue Fish again, poking around the rooms and going through the kitchen cupboards. He could honestly use the distraction that pointless busy work can give, or conversation with anyone he happens to run into.]

That is my understanding. Real magic seems to be quite rare. Was he a human wizard?

A doctor who does magic? [she sounds . . . skeptical] Goodness, that's rare.

Ah, so dwarves are present in your world, then? [she takes a sip of her drink with a hum] I ask only because you are the first I've met who share this many similarities to my world.

[Thor just shrugs.]

I didn't see him do any doctor things. Just magic.

[And if he sounds a bit dismissive, well, he is. He didn't like the guy much.]

Not in our world as such, but in our universe. Nidavellir is home to the dwarves. It's a different realm from Asgard. [He waves a hand.] Much like the different worlds we visit here in the Fleet.

Hmmm.

[she lets the topic slide, if only because Thor doesn't know any more. But a doctor doing magic? That's just silly]

Do you mean - planets? Or different realms? Because there is a difference between the two.

For us they are similar, though I admit they are not exactly the same. We are from the Nine Realms - nine worlds connected together through the branches of Yggdrasil. Other worlds in the universe are not connected in such a manner, and so I would not call them realms in the same way.

Ah. I . . . think I understand. Where I am from, there are a few different realms, but they are not places one can get to by traveling as we are here. They require spells or death.

You speak of the afterlife?

[They have that as well... Valhalla, and Hel. He considers them separate entirely.]

Mm, yes. Well - sort of. It's called a few different things depending upon who you speak to.

And you can get to these places using spells.

[Which doesn't sound much like the afterlife he's aware of.]

Not that place, no. But other realms you can. A lot of it is forbidden magic, though, so it's rare that anyone tries.

[she holds up her (lack of a) right hand] This was used to finish a spell to close off one of those places in my world, fairly recently. It's very serious magic.

[Ah, well. That explains it. He merely nods at her arm.]

That makes sense. When the Bifrost was broken, my father had to use a huge amount of dark magic to send me to Earth. It nearly killed us both. It is no simple thing, to send people between worlds or realms.

It shouldn't be. I can understand if it is more normal, like in your world, but messing around with that sort of magic is far too dangerous even for an experienced mage or wizard.

I would not call it normal ... most travel between worlds is done through technology. The Bifrost was a bridge that could send people to any of the other Nine Realms, and for everything else there are spaceships.

[There were also Loki's hidden paths between worlds, but he's not qualified to speak on those. He's only used them twice, and once was an accident.]

The danger is too great otherwise, as you say.

Mmm, that is what it comes down to, "normal" or not. [she huffs and takes a long drink, muttering into her glass] Especially if magic is involved. Bloody pain in my arse.

[Thor chuckles, amused yet understanding at the same time.]

I do not recommend it, unless you're in dire circumstances.
