[ New Year’s Eve has come and gone without anything exploding or going awfully wrong and so today is just safe enough for something else. Steve Rogers doesn’t address the network for no reason, after all. Only today he keeps looking back and eventually, calls: ]

Are you really going to stay there throughout the whole thing?

[ There’s a flicker to Steve’s left: dark curls and a flash of a silk blouse as Peggy leans into view. ] Perhaps. After all, of the two of us, you’re the one with experience in addressing the public.

[ But! Fine! Here she is, framed beside him onscreen, and refraining from making any more jokes about the old USO show. ]

Very funny.

[ but he is smiling, small but amused. For all of his experience, he seems as if he’s been practicing his lines for this one broadcast. ]

I know some of you will say this is long overdue, but after months of asking, mostly on her part, I’ve said yes and we’ve decided to get married.

[ -- and that’s when Peggy slaps the back of her hand against Steve’s shoulder, hissing something (something for him alone) about twisting the truth and tarnishing her well-earned cred. ]

I mean, after a careful observation of mutual interests, we’ve decided to get married. What this is really about is a simple matter of proving me right. I’d like you all to tell her three weeks is a perfectly reasonable duration for a honeymoon.

[ She reaches for the device, tugging its focus onto herself. ] -- For God’s sake, don’t encourage him. We’ve only just got engaged; it’s far far too early to start discussing the rest. [ Aside, to Steve: ] I warned you when I agreed to this ridiculous message. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

[ But she’s laughing. ]

It's not getting too ahead of ourselves. Call it careful consideration of facts.

[ he'll reach out and close the device for the sake of this banter. ]

It's a short vacation taken after the nuptials. An opportunity for the newlyweds to -- [ well, let's not put too fine a point on it shall we? ] -- enjoy some time together before returning to their respective responsibilities.

Me? Heavens, no. [ she's already planned one wedding before -- the one she'd called off before even joining the ssr. ] But I'd wager good money that he has. Probably has got a binder already set up. Tabs and all.

Because Steve wanted the announcement. And I was feeling merciful, I suppose.

[ but that mercy is running out what with how he's wandering around making allies in his effort to make a bigger fuss than it needs to be. ]

It's all well and good to let people know about our intention to marry. Quite another to invite you all to stand there and watch the damned thing.

It is? I had thought it was all one and the same, really. Weddings are huge events in Asgard that last weeks. Half the kingdom attended the last one I went to.

Is that typical of all Asgardian weddings? Or was that particular happy couple rather special?

Well, they were both from noble families, so perhaps it isn't quite the same for the commonfolk. [He's spent 99% of his life among just the nobility and the army.] But I would think the ceremonial aspects are much the same, and those take time.

[ you know, arguments aside. this is quite interesting. ]

Is there a lot of ceremony to consider? Sounds like a bit of a faff.

Oh, yes, a lot of preparations as well. Most of the ceremony itself is held on the wedding day, but considering how long it all takes to arrange and negotiate, it's better to spread it out a bit.

And what, pray tell, to Asgardian newlyweds have to negotiate? [ she believes him! she's still quite curious. ]

Let's see... [He counts off on his fingers.] There is a discussion between the families as to whether the alliance is suitable. That must be witnessed. There are also finances to consider, the date of the marriage, bringing together the rings and swords, and the goods for the feast that follows...

[Hm.]
