[ New Year’s Eve has come and gone without anything exploding or going awfully wrong and so today is just safe enough for something else. Steve Rogers doesn’t address the network for no reason, after all. Only today he keeps looking back and eventually, calls: ]

Are you really going to stay there throughout the whole thing?

[ There’s a flicker to Steve’s left: dark curls and a flash of a silk blouse as Peggy leans into view. ] Perhaps. After all, of the two of us, you’re the one with experience in addressing the public.

[ But! Fine! Here she is, framed beside him onscreen, and refraining from making any more jokes about the old USO show. ]

Very funny.

[ but he is smiling, small but amused. For all of his experience, he seems as if he’s been practicing his lines for this one broadcast. ]

I know some of you will say this is long overdue, but after months of asking, mostly on her part, I’ve said yes and we’ve decided to get married.

[ -- and that’s when Peggy slaps the back of her hand against Steve’s shoulder, hissing something (something for him alone) about twisting the truth and tarnishing her well-earned cred. ]

I mean, after a careful observation of mutual interests, we’ve decided to get married. What this is really about is a simple matter of proving me right. I’d like you all to tell her three weeks is a perfectly reasonable duration for a honeymoon.

[ She reaches for the device, tugging its focus onto herself. ] -- For God’s sake, don’t encourage him. We’ve only just got engaged; it’s far far too early to start discussing the rest. [ Aside, to Steve: ] I warned you when I agreed to this ridiculous message. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

[ But she’s laughing. ]

It's not getting too ahead of ourselves. Call it careful consideration of facts.

[ he'll reach out and close the device for the sake of this banter. ]

[Now the question that came to mind with this was: was that something she valued or not? After all, he was use to such people as Rogue, who made it a practice to be 'distant', mostly out of practicality but also almost wore it as a badge of pride. Remy didn't want to counter Peggy on this if it was something she saw as a strength in herself.]

Well, that may be so, but can't say I remember havin' 'ny ill meetin's with ya in the past, 'nd am sure, or hope, that will be the same in the future too. Rather not go makin' 'nymore 'nemies than I gotta.

Surely, it's simply bad form to start fussing about the honeymoon before you're done properly thanking everyone for their warm wishes.

I keep having to remind him that patience is a virtue. Which is impressive, really, because I'm not much known for my patience either.

Now, too soon or not, I 'ssume honeymoon preparation would have to wait to see how we do with our voyage 'nyways. Wouldn't work well to set a date only to have a repeat of some of the last few stops, by choice or not, that we've had.

'less ya'll, or he, be plannin' a 'staycation' style honeymoon.

Staycation. You know, that's a word I've learned the meaning of just today. [ not that the concept didn't already exist but -- oh, what a clever eliding of words. ]

'nd ya know, worse case, if ya'll were aimin' for France, sure can sort out a cut out of the Eiffel Tower, stick it on a wall, light some candles, have someone 'nsult ya that ya French ain't French 'nough. Be just like bein' there.

It's a pretty thought but -- I trust both Steve and I saw enough of France during the war. It's not a likely candidate on the list of places we might try to recreate.

Although, I'll have you know, his French is excellent.

I think it more the mentality of 'nyone who ain't French speakin' French be seen as ya French ain't French 'nough. [Being an American speaking French in Paris had still gotten him looks when he had been there, even with growing up and being fluent in it. His accent was just not 'right'.]

Ah, yes, can- [Remy started then decided to take it back.] No, won't say that, as I can't 'magine it since never been through 'nything like that. But will say, the city, 'nd country, has certainly progressed 'nd recovered since then.

Maybe the tropics 'nstead then? That be 'nother popular honeymoon location. [He really wasn't helping with that original question Peggy had stated to him anymore, more just enjoying talking for the sake of being able to chat casually about the topic.]

Might get lucky that when it does happen, we happen to stop at a planet that got that for ya'll. That or find a way to get a bunch of sand on board the ship, put up some blue wall paper, play some water sounds. Really set the mood. [Ok, he may be taking the joke too far now, but Remy is amusing himself at least. And Peggy did allow him to keep going on about the topic, so she would have to put up with it, for now.]
