002 In The Bleak Midwinter (OTA)

( Sansa hasn't addressed the entire fleet since she'd first arrived around a moon ago but she feels like if she's going to make an expedition down to the planet below, she ought to have some company. This isn't something she's familiar with, travel through the stars, and the information she's been given about the land beneath them seems appealing. She wants to feel a true ground beneath her feet again and the lure of snow and all that comes with it is hard to ignore. She's pink-cheeked and slightly optimistic when she addresses the fleet. )

I've been wanting to go down below to the planet but since this is my first experience with it, I wondered if someone might like to accompany me? I know my ways are likely different from most of yours but I appreciate your indulgence just this once.

( She presses her lips together and chances a bit of a smile. )

I've heard there's treats and things? It might be nice for a day or so.

( When Sansa gets down onto Selvin-9, the first thing she encounters are snow leopards. They're small, beautiful little things that look rather like spotted jungle cats only their coats are white as snow. She's never heard of such a thing in Westeros and she immediately wants one upon setting eyes on them playing around. She asks around and it seems they're quite tame and able to be taken as pets so she has one on a length of ribbon, a lovely creature she's started referring to as Jonquil. She looks to the person next to her, someone who seems like they might be from the fleet as well. )

Do you see her? Isn't she amazing? I haven't had a pet in a long time. It's just a pity this one won't grow to be much larger than it is right now. I could use something to protect me.

[Keith looked at the small cat at the end of the ribbon. One of them had managed to attach herself to him during his date with Lance a few days ago, and he'd ended up just bringing it back to the Huntress with him.]

They're pretty cute.

[He shrugged slightly.]

But, why have the cat protect you? You could ask others in the Fleet for that, right?

( Keith is someone she knows, at the least, in as much as they share a ship together. She hasn't had a chance to really talk with him before now, though, and she tips her head a bit toward the cat. )

I don't know anyone here, really, other than Lord Tyrion Lannister. Where I'm from, it's very dangerous to trust those you don't know well and sometimes dangerous to trust the ones you do know. Animals aren't going to betray you.

Well, it is not as fierce as a direwolf ...but I know that cats are fairly vicious. Says the tiniest lion.

[He smiled at her with a little hint of dryness, but it was a beautiful snow leopard. He looked behind them.] I am almost tempted to get one myself.

[ Hermione had been somewhat avoiding Sansa, mostly because she had known a version of her that had never been on the fleet at all, but she doesn't want to avoid her forever. They had been friends, once, and she'd quite like to try that again - and, so, when she spots the lovely lady out for a walk she can't help but smile.

She also has an animal with her, one that is very clearly a Direwolf. ]

I'm sure there are lots of people that'll help make sure you're safe, my lady.

Absolutely! I'd love to spend some time with you, and I don't mind being an escort at all.

[He'd honestly never turn down a chance for her companionship. ]

Well, my lord, small things can be fierce. I forget myself. Have you been well?

( Seeing him in person is strange after so many years apart. He has a few more scars but, then again, so does she. Time seems to do that to people and it's certainly done it to them - they're both enemies of the Crown. )

( Sansa sees the direwolf first and her mouth drops open a bit. The only direwolf she's seen lately has been Ghost, Jon's wolf, and this one is certainly not Ghost. It takes her a moment to respond to the other woman's greeting. )

I certainly hope so. How did you come across having a direwolf?

Thank you, Captain Sokka. Do you want to meet in a few hours? I don't want to rush you if you have other things to do.

[ She knew, of course, that this is how Sansa would react, and she lets Romulus walk forward and lean close, hoping that he might get some kind of attention. Ferociously protective, equally affectionate. ]

He was a gift from the Atroma, part of a pack I helped raise at home.

( Sansa extends a hand to the wolf, letting it sniff lightly before she makes any movement to get any closer to it. One can never be too careful with direwolves. )

Direwolves are the sigil of my house. I haven't seen one in a long time.

His name is Romulus.

[ And he leans up to nudge his nose against her hand, pressing closer. ]

He's friendlier than the other wolves in his pack, but I think he knows which people he can trust.

[ It's too uncomfortable to tell Sansa she knows about her house, her sigil, her colours - that Romulus had belonged to a pack Robb had been in charge of, that he had been her friend and she knew his fate. ]

Oh, I've met Tyrion.

[And saw some strange things of his during calibrations...]

But, that sounds a little lonely, not being able to trust another person. Though, I can understand why you wouldn't if it's that dangerous all the time.

It's difficult to know who I can trust in Westeros other than my family. Tyrion, at least, protected me before. I don't think he'd ever betray me.

( Sansa ventures a smile, though it still feels unnatural to smile. She knows that she has to please the Atroma, though, and she won't do that if she's by herself all the time. Besides, Keith is just trying to be kind, isn't he? )

No one has threatened me here, either. I feel safe on the Huntress.

Romulus. That's a nice, strong name. I had a wolf called Lady, once. I haven't had her for a long time, though. I wish I could have her again.

( Just seeing another direwolf makes her feel like there's something of House Stark this far out in space and it's strange, really, to feel more at home here than in Winterfell. )

I'm sorry, I don't even think I gave you my name, did I?

[It's unusual for her to encounter such a formal human, so Looma finds herself answering the broadcast despite...well, some distinct reluctance to help. Though it's hardly personal.]

Your ways are most certainly different than mine, but I will not accompany you.

I will never understand what appeal you humans see in such miserable cold.

[Yep, the giant, four-armed alien battle princess who can shrug off gunfire and take small explosions on the chin like a champ is an absolute baby when it comes to snow. And, well, freezing temperatures in general.]

( Sansa is a little more prepared for Looma this time, having spoken with her before, and manages a bit of a smile. )

I actually like the cold quite a bit. Where I'm from, at Winterfell? It's cold most of the time. The cold and snow remind me of home. We won't have to stay very long, if you'll do me the honor of accompanying me? I wouldn't want to make you uncomfortable.

[Just gonna narrow her eyes a bit here, what's wrong with you. Who likes the cold?]

You fail to offer me any incentive to do so.

My homeworld is a barren desert in the orbit of two suns. The cold alone is more than enough to make me uncomfortable.

[And since most shops don't seem to have much need to carry winter wear for 7'6" four-armed, walking mountains... well, just guess how prepared she is to deal with snow.]

I'd be happy to accompany you to the surface, as long as you don't have anything particularly adventurous in mind.

[Felix has learned to suffer the cold as needed and does not go down often, but with Crowley so adverse to it he doesn't have a ready shopping partner. Sansa seems like just the person he's looking for in that regard]

I think he's glad to be around someone that recognises him for what he is and doesn't call him a big dog.

[ Hermione doesn't want to promise that she'll get to see Lady again, but she is hopeful. ]

It's alright, I didn't give you mine. I'm Hermione Granger, it's lovely to meet you. [ And she even bows. ]

...that is true. Sometimes the more diminutive, the more fierce they become.

[Tyrion pauses, then shrugs elegantly.] I've found myself doing odd things.

Sure thing. And don't worry about it, I can clear my schedule. Meet you on your ship in a few?

If you're worried about going alone, I'd be happy to go with you, I've been down to the surface a few times.

[And since offering to accompany a complete stranger is a little weird:]

I'm Commander Shepard.

( Sansa doesn't have any plans for anything adventurous. She simply wants to see this planet and the city below before they move on to another place; the promise of snow is tempting, too, and she just wants to find someone so she isn't going alone. She smiles a bit. )

No, nothing adventurous. I just wanted to see what the city was like and see if it was anything like cities where I'm from.

( Sansa is a little surprised at the bow but, then again, if this woman knew Robb, she'd know something of Westeros and her position there. She gives the direwolf another scratch between the ears before bowing in kind. )

It is my great pleasure, Hermione. How did you come to know my brother? From what I understand, people from all places can come here to the fleet - was he here once?

This is an odd place. I think we're both going to end up doing odd things if we remain here very long. I already find myself becoming attuned to things I never thought I would.

( Take, for example, the strange method with which they obtain their food. It isn't the most satisfying sustenance, but it feeds them, and Sansa has had much worse in her life. It's just strange, as is the ability to talk with people from far away in the blink of an eye. )

There's roles people have on my ship but I don't have any like they do. Mine seems...different, I suppose. I guess if there's anything a lady would do in a fleet like this, that is what they assigned me.
