Sometime in the evening, the Space Bar plays host to a very interesting poker game; Kitty, in her infinite wisdom, having chosen that activity to keep their hands busy while they joke, catch up, and possibly scar poor Billy’s mind ~~(Kurt)~~.

The poker game isn’t closed to the four of them, however; anyone who wanders over will be offered a seat and the chance to be dealt into the game. So come! Pull up a chair and be dealt in, or just wander over and socialize. Distract the players. Just don’t set anything on fire that isn’t made to be.

[Vash breaks eye contact to look off to the side with a shy smile on his face. Scratching at his cheek with a laugh.] Oh, you remember that? I thought you might have 'blacked' that part out.

I think I remember most of that night. I clearly should have had more to drink and gone for the black out stage. [Smiling.]

Heh, I assumed you had too much to drink and thought I was someone else. [Winn specifically. Vash isn't sure if that's an insult or not towards Winn.]

I definitely had too much to drink, but have you seen you? You're kind of distinctive.

Me? Distinctive? [He unbuttons the top couple buttons on the long red neck of his coat so he can give it a proper snap!] I take it that means you love the style that I have going on? [Said in a tone of voice that perfectly matches his cocky grin.]

I don't remember saying all that. [She smiles a little.] Are you undressing for me in the middle of the bar?

I dunno, what would you do if I was? [He was mostly going for flare, but he was curious about her answer.]

Mmm, don't know. You'll have to try it to find out. [Is this a dangerous game? This might be a dangerous game.]

Careful. I hear that's a way for you to end up having dinner with a strange man you've only met once before.

As long as he pays for dinner, right? [It is strange to think they met that way. It's strange to think she went. It's strangest to think they'd go all that time without talking and then end up co-captaining a ship together and that she'd drunkenly kiss him one night.]

[Vash would say that's one of the best things about life.] Yup! Not very gentleman like to not pay for dinner!

But, I'm afraid I can't let you get too distracted by my dashing good looks if you want a chance to beat Remy. [Vash goes ahead and buttons his neck back up.]

That and I think I'd get fired.

Looks like I'm good at calling bluffs tonight. Maybe I'll get lucky after all.

With the game of course. [Smirking.]

Who's bluffing?! [You were Vash.] Would someone who's bluffing ask you out for dinner this weekend? [Shut up voice saying 'you're an idiot'. She won't say yes after all! He'll show her who's bluffing! HA!]

[Turns out they were both bluffing because while this new expression on Kitty's face may not be exactly "deer in headlights" it's definitely approaching that level of surprise and confusion.] Oh...

I mean...

Are you asking me out for dinner this weekend? [Feeling nervous where before she felt amused and sassy.]

[Wait, what? That's not the snarky response he had been expecting. At best he thought he'd be dishing out another free meal, but she seems to be taking his suggestion a bit more seriously than he expected.

Should he back out now? He should back out now.] Well, you know, usually I have to invite all of the fleet out too so people don't get jealous and start a fight over me. Goes against my love and peace thing. Although, I don't really have the funds for that right now. Just helped to update the Twin Roses... You know, that can get expensive... And buying other things...

So, if you didn't want to have dinner then it would mean less fights among the females of the fleet, but if this weekend works for you... yeah. That could work for me too.

[What was that rambling mess?! Whatever it was it wasn't exactly backing out.]

[It got weird. It got weird. It got weird!]

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean that could get pricey if someone other than me actually took you up on it for once. Plus, I can really put away the food too so, you'd be in the back washing dishes for them to pay for it and probably breaking them and I'd have to bail you out and it would be... a lot. [Did she breathe during any of that?]

It would be a lot. Especially if it was to cover the whole fleet. Besides, I wash enough dishes working here as it is. I don't want to wash any more.

Speaking of work! [A way out without admitting he's bluffing! A topic change!] Do you need anything brought over? Soft drink? Water? Vodka? Whiskey? Beer? Sandwiches? Or uh... water?

I mean, who would turn sandwiches down, right? And water, sure. Water is good. [Taking a couple of backward steps toward the poker table. Gotta get back to that game. You understand. Super important. Cards waiting.]

Maybe someone who has to pay for them would turn them down, but these ones can be on the house. [Although what he really means is on him. He is a Nami fearing man and will not give away free food. He'll put some credits in the til later.] Although don't make me regret it and you guys become a rowdy group or anything!

[He's mostly happy for an excuse right now to disappear into the kitchen and start cooking.] I'll bring everything out in a moment!

You just can't help yourself. [She figures it means he's paying. It's not his bar and he's not a thief. She manages a smile through the awkwardness.] We'll try to keep things reasonable. Thanks, Vash.

Great! Enjoy your game! [Quickly he slips back behind the kitchen and won't be seen again until he comes back out with the sandwiches. Acting like a good employee he will serve the food with minimum interruption to the game. Only stopping to take more orders before going back to the kitchen for the evening.]

[Over the course of the night she manages to relax again, smiling at Vash when he does stop by to check on them.]
