Parts. They can't be stolen in one piece but if they're dismantled they can be brought back to the ships. They share traits with the maintenance bots, so they're useful.

[Possibly. Though the mention of the ships makes most of the remaining tension disappear, and his rifle falls to rest into the sling at his side. One hand stays in contact with it, of course, but it's not quite held at the same readiness as before.
