Mm... good, then.

[Hard to argue with that, so he doesn't bother trying. Her happiness is what ultimately matters to him, after all. Instead he crouches down to examine the selection of shoes and boots, taking a bit of extra time for not just the overall functionality of his options but also the style, what might go with what she's suggested for him already. He's no expert in fashion, but there are a couple of options that stick out to him as pretty sharp, so after a moment he lifts a pair of sturdy, shining black boots.]

I mean, you could take them all if you really wanted.

[It's a joke, of course. Even if Messer wanted to, which he'd never, there's only so much storage space to hold such things.

Kaname crouches down beside him to get a closer look, giving him a smile before she focuses on the boots he's selected.]

They're nice... a little more upscale than I've seen you wear. [A nod.] But they're just as functional, aren't they? A perfect fit, I'd say.

I think two will be plenty. Something utilitarian, and something a little more quality.

[Because it's not like he goes out or anything, god no, but even back on Ragna he had a nicer set of clothes in case they needed to get formal for whatever reason. Espionage in various situations was in the job description.]

That sounds like a plan. This store seemed to suit your style more than some others I'd seen, so it's good to know I wasn't far off.

[A thoughtful hum can be heard as she stands back up to look around.]

A winter jacket or two would be good. We've been to a few colder planets already...

[He glances around the store again, then at her; there's a long pause, and then- his shoulder drop, a mix of relaxation and defeat. You can almost hear the sound of logic slamming the door on paranoia, however temporarily.]

With everything free here, I may as well collect a full wardrobe for all seasons. Even if they're never used, better to have than not... waiting would be a drain on funds I'm not likely to have later.

[He's got no illusions of his entertainment capabilities on a reality show that apparently revolves around interpersonal drama. Why did they pick him to be here, exactly?

Not that he's complaining, but. It's weird as heck.]

[Now Kaname turns around with a grin, happy he caught on to her thinking. She holds up her giant tote bag as a silent approval of the idea.]

Of course you should still try them on. There's a changing room over by the back corner on the other side of the store.

[She reaches out a hand to help him up.]

But you know I'd buy you whatever you needed without question, right?

[Of course she knew this was going to happen... leave it to Kaname to plan everything. Honestly he's kind of proud.

He accepts her hand, using her weight as counter balance as he rises to his feet, shoes tucked under an arm. He doesn't respond directly to the money comment - because he doesn't want to end up burdening Kaname, but she'd likely argue against him using that word - and instead opts to make his way towards the back rooms, sifting through a rack of pants as he goes. If he's going to be trying things on, may as well make a full outfit.]

You'll let me at least carry it all back.

[NOT A QUESTION]

[Chuckling fondly at his statement, she follows him, remaining just outside the dressing area as she looks through another rack of shirts.]

Mm, well, I think I can manage just fine. [Teasing him, she sounds like she might be considering it. Picking out a few more potential shirts, Kaname waits for his inevitable reply.]

Hey, when you're changed, I'd like to see.

[Yeah he might question that comment, but later. Especially at the rate they're stockpiling clothes.

He makes a vague noise that isn't a yes or a no as he shuts the change room door and gets to business stripping off his clothes. There's a full-body mirror within, and there's a momentary pause at the reflection of his naked chest and the arcing burn scars traveling up towards his shoulder- seeing it by looking down is one thing, but this...

...nevermind. He glances uncomfortably away and doesn't look again until he's dressed in the first new outfit, one Kaname had chosen. A nice shirt with the jacket over it, a slimming pair of pants, and the steady boots which will definitely need to be worked in, but are comfortable enough; it's a good combination. Once changed he gives the door a knock to let her know he's done and steps back out again. Final judgment belongs to her, since she's the mastermind of this whole excursion.]

[Kaname, meanwhile, has no idea about any level of angst going on as she moves to look at hats. He wouldn't wear one normally, but the idea amuses her long enough for him to finish. The knock gets her attention, and she turns to look as he exits the room. He may notice her brows raise just a fraction. It takes her a moment to say something.]

You look very handsome.

[Nailed it.]

[...Oof. Is she doing this on purpose? He glances aside, tugging idly at the collar.]

It'll do.

[Can he just get five sets of these? Would that be enough?]

[Biting back a smile, she turns to a rack and pulls out a dark blue button up dress shirt.]

Sometimes there are formal occasions. Stock up while you have the chance.

[He accepts it with a wordless nod, taking it back into the change room. He knows what his job is now, and he's just gonna roll with his fate. Thankfully he already has those dressy shoes and a nice pair of pants inside waiting for round 2 of Messer-Dress-Up, so a minute later he's back out the door, this time looking pretty slick, albeit uncomfortable, glancing down at himself. Feels weird to be wearing anything fancy- the fanciest he usually gets is his formal uniform...

Well, if nothing else, Kaname has good taste.]

[When he emerges again, Kaname nods her approval at him, careful to keep the comments to herself this time. Her smile alone should say more than enough to him.]

What next? Ideas?

[oh god, why is she asking him. he's useless for this sort of thing.]

I can just take several copies of the same clothes, if you'd like to move on.

[He's more used to uniforms anyway, and surely she has better things to do with her time than endure his pitiful fashion show.]

Today, we're focusing on you. [Likely much to his chagrin.] But it might be easier [on him] if you grab several colors of the same style.

[Kaname plucks another dress shirt off the rack with a smile. This one's in white. Removing the hanger, she folds the shirt up nicely and places it in the tote bag.]

I think there's a place a couple shops over that has more selection. Just in case you want to continue shopping.

[Messer can most definitely see the amusement on her face.]

[Well... okay, if she's amused, that must mean she's enjoying it, which is enough incentive for him to endure it even if shopping itself isn't something he spends much time thinking about. This was more for her than for him after all, and he's fine with that. Without further hesitation he nods, gesturing back towards the room.]

Best not ruin these clothes. I'll change and meet you out front.

[Give him a hot minute to get out of this formal wear! He'll head back out again with a bundle of clothes and boxes for his shoes. He's actually wearing the new ones, though- the casual boots, not the fancy ones. Turns out they're more comfortable than whatever he got here, and he needs to wear them in anyways.]

If we get much more than this, we'll need a bigger carrying bag than what you have. Do you know where to find that as well?
