Surprisingly normal for the kidnapped. I will add funnel cakes to that list between 'saving alien civilizations' and 'waking up as a part-animal person.'

It's fine. Whatever she believed in Marina, wherever her heart is here... their friendship is the closest one that he has had in any universe and he knows that she cares about him. Even if she doesn't care about him as much as he cares about her or as much as she cares about Winn, it's something.]

That's exactly where I'd put it. [Though she might have written, "failing to save alien civilizations because her glass is less optimistic and she slept through the evacuation of the planet that was largely wrecked and heard more about the wrecking than he saving.

Love was never meant to be something quantified and measured and compared against other love. It doesn't do its best work that way.]

I'd expect nothing less from you.

Obviously. Great minds think alike. [He's trying to be optimistic! They did save most of the civilization... which, granted, was slightly overshadowed by the failure to save all of it. Kitty missed any good that came out of that ordeal.

He doesn't know if she loves him. He's important to her, he's certain of that, but her circumstances weren't great when she said it. He was newly arrived and freshly heartbroken, she was emotionally off-balance with Winn and Kurt in comas. Maybe she felt bad for him, or maybe she was lonely.]

Am I really so predictable that you can guess where these things fall on my itemized lists?

[She does love him. She just isn't in love with him and love doesn't do it's best work with qualifiers either. But it's more nuanced than people give it credit for and that can lead to confusion and heartbreak.]

I wouldn't say predictable. But isn't that one of the perks of getting to know someone well. You know the facts. The tragic backstory and the not-so-tragic backstory, but you also learn their instincts and rhythms?

[Emotions in general are difficult. All of them. They're cancelled.]

His mom died and he was once almost drowned in school and then he saw a whole planet die. There are some tragic highlights. Lowlights?]

I'm glad you're here too. I mean even if it does make it abduction number three for you. At least in terms of grand scale abductions. I guess I don't know if you ever got kidnapped back at home briefly. It could be part of your tragic backstory I'm not familiar with. I can almost see it now. Someone in a van told you he had candy and you said, "did you know candy was inwented [You can bet she's using the accent] in Russia?"

And then I went into the van so I could tell him about the true origins of candy, and that was my first abduction. See, you know everything that there is to know. [There's a lot that she doesn't know, but Pavel is generally disinclined to talk about things like the time he was actually drugged and abducted in the City unless there's a compelling reason to share.]

A few, yes. When I was home for three years [which is a thing that happened in that missing time period] I spoke to a female version of me from a universe... which was slightly less strange than meeting the Greek god Apollo on Pollux IV, but only very slightly.

Woah, woah, woah, you've met a female you and this is the first I'm hearing it? Do you have pictures? I want stories. This is so much more than meeting Apollo.

I only spoke to her ship-to-ship while we were fixing the universes, unfortunately. She seemed like a polite and intelligent young woman.

Did you see her or just hear her? Was she cute? [Something about this feels much more fun than when she had a double in Marina most of the time. Maybe it's that it's not her?]

I saw her, and of course she was cute. How could a female version [also wersion] of me not be cute?

Excellent point. [She laughs.] How weird do you think it would be to make out with your gender flipped self?

[He takes a moment to contemplate this important question.] Very, but if that you liked the same things as this you, then maybe it would be a good weird.

Hot. [She smiles at him.] Of course I'd probably find boy!me insufferable.

[This is most definitely a trap and he does not know how to get out of it.] That sounds more manageable than two of me. Given more of an opportunity to talk, Polina and I might have broken spacetime.

Stop. Two of you would be adorable and ridiculously polite and helpful. Even if you were breaking spacetime.

Breaking spacetime is in no way adorable or helpful... but yes, I admit that we would undoubtedly be polite about it.

See, I feel like you could do it in an adorable and or helpful way. That's how much faith I have in you.
