Who: Death and You
Broadcast: Yes
Action: Planetside - Supermarket
When: Today
[Action/Broadcast - Supermarket]
Food is an odd thing, which is why Death is going to do his best to at least try and figure out what sorts of produce and meats can be procured for the Caprine. A cook is only as good as his ingredients, after all. As ship chef, he is wandering through the supermarket with a trolley and a few bags to see about getting some staples for the kitchen. Apples, bananas, oranges, grapes... These are things he knows about and sets aside in their own bags.
Eventually, the feed turns on to show Death holding a dragonfruit, turning it over in his hands. The outside is different than what he's used to seeing in produce, but he is not afraid of it. He holds out one hand, summoning his scythe, and runs the fruit against the blade, effectively cutting it into very neat halves. The scythe disappears just as quickly and Death is left with the odd and pale innards to contend with.
HOW WOULD ONE EAT THIS...?
He may yet be a while in the supermarket.

[Death nods his head.] A PLEASURE TO MEET YOU MISTER- ACTUALLY, I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE MONSIEUR LEBEAU, SHOULDN'T IT? I AM CALLED DEATH.
[Action]
Remy smiled a little to himself and shook his head, focusing on the use of French. It was always nice to hear being used.] I kinda took a guess ya were, ya do have a distinct appearance. [And Death was surprisingly easy to talk to considering the usual connotations associated with him.]
Also sounds like ya world be a bit different from m' own. 'm normally ain't too bad on geography, 'nd may be mistaken, but pretty sure there ain't a Quirm back home. Though if we talkin' origins of French, then I would go with France might be a good substitution for it.
[Action]
MY HOMEWORLD IS SHAPED LIKE A DISC, RESTS ON FOUR ELEPHANTS, AND EVEN THEY REST ON A TURTLE. I WOULDN'T DOUBT THAT THERE ARE MANY NOTABLE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN OUR WORLDS.
IF I MAY ASK, WHAT SORTS OF FOODS DO YOU KNOW HOW TO COOK? I CAN FIGURE OUT ALMOST ANYTHING, BUT EVERYONE ALSO HAS THEIR OWN WAY OF DOING THINGS. REGIONAL SPECIALTIES ABOUND REGARDLESS OF WHERE ONE ROAMS.
[Action]
Ahh, I try 'nd do a mix, or as much as I can with what we normally have access too or able to keep on the ships between stops. I was raised on Southern 'nd Cajun food... which I suppose might not mean much since it sounds like there ain't southern American states from the world ya from. Normally stuff with a lot of spice 'nd heat, though do tend to dial that down with cookin' for others. Gotta get a bit 'nventive at times with what supplies we can get 'nd what equipment we got.
[Action]
I LIKE SPICE. IT'S ONE OF THE FEW THINGS THAT I CAN ALMOST TASTE, HENCE MY PREFERENCE FOR CURRY. IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE THIS CAJUN FOOD. FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN, GROWING UP EATING SPICY FOODS TENDS TO MAKE PEOPLE LIVE JUST A BIT LONGER. I'VE NEVER BEEN SURE AS TO WHY.
[Action]
Though not sure if I wanna go makin' that up m'self, made that mistake in the past with cookin' 'nd grindin' up a lot of them at once. Swear it killed m' ability to smell 'nd taste for half a week. [He may be exaggerating a bit there. But only a bit.]
Re: [Action]
PERHAPS I COULD HELP? I'VE SEEN PEOPLE MAKE PRESERVED FRUITS BEFORE. [Usually before he had to come do his job, but still.] I LACK THE GREATER ABILITY TO TASTE, BUT I CAN FOLLOW A RECIPE WITH GENERAL EASE.
[Action]
Though maybe be better for the crews to do it on a planet than in one of the ship's kitchens. That kinda heat in 'nclosed spaces don't sound smart.
[Action] I am so late and I am so sorry. ;;
[Action] Not a problem at all :) One never wants to rush death
Also, ya welcome to chat if ya wanna get some recipe ideas. 'm either on the Twin Roses or workin' at the bar.
[Action] A very good point!
I SHALL HAVE TO SEEK YOU OUT FROM TIME TO TIME. I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO MAKE GOOD MEALS FOR THOSE I AM CURRENTLY LIVING WITH.
[Action]
Though he may be bias, after all, one of the most praised people in Remy's childhood home was his tante, the primary cook of the household.] Sure ya crew will be happy to give ya feed back on what ya make.
[Action]
[Action]
Will be sure ya'll have plenty of time to try out all sorts of things, provided our next few stops be half decent. Have had a few in the past that really ain't worth stoppin' for supplies.
[Action]
WERE THERE? WHAT SORT OF PLANETS WOULD BE LACKING IN FOOD? SURELY SOMETHING MUST LIVE ON MOST WORLDS.
[Action]
Like we were stopped off on an ice planet awhile back, so the limited on what could grow there 'nd what they could hunt, had a lot of cured meats 'nd the like. Or this one, which may have a lot of option, but they all got this kinda lemony under flavor to it. Sometimes it's just 'bout takin' what we can get, most of it still be an 'mprovement on what the ships put out.
[Action]
[Action]
This place just goin' to be more of the case of usin' these items in ways that that citrus flavor works in favor for them, not against it. [Hopefully that made sense.]
[Action]
[Action]
Not a bad idea, sure we've all had to do it at some point. But hey, if ya get real stuck for some funds, give me a yell. Been workin' m' credits back up again since I got back months ago, got 'nough to spare if ya need a hand. [Money wasn't that important to Remy. It was nice to have, but since the Fleet gave them food basics and a place to sleep, everything he got with it was mostly luxuries.]
[Action]
BUILDING A STRONG SENSE OF COMMUNITY THROUGH SHARED ENDEAVORS. IT'S A VERY COMMON MENTALITY, EVEN IN THE MOST CROWDED AND BUSY PLACES. YOU ARE VERY KIND TO OFFER SO MUCH ASSISTANCE TO ME. I CAN ONLY HOPE TO REPAY IT IN KIND.
[Action]
[Action]
[He twiddles his bony thumbs.]
THE FACT THAT YOU SHOW NO FEAR TOWARDS ME AND OFFERED TO HELP DOES SAY A GREAT DEAL ABOUT HOW YOU HAVE GROWN AS AN INDIVIDUAL. SUCH ACTIONS OUGHT TO BE EMULATED ABOVE ALL OTHERS.
[Action]
Bein' a mutant, gotta kinda be open to physical mutations 'nd stuff out of the norm for appearances. 'nd, well... Death or not, worth givin' a chance to see what ya like before judgin', non?
[Action]
[He really doesn't mind. You get used to it after a while.]
TRĂˆS VRAI. WITH ALL THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF PEOPLE AND LIVING THINGS, IT IS STILL SURPRISING HOW DIFFICULT IT CAN BE TO BREACH BORDERS AND ALLOW PEOPLE TO COME TOGETHER. I SUPPOSE IT IS MERELY A MATTER OF TIME, BUT SHE IS A VERY DIFFERENT ENTITY THAN I.
[Action]
Don't get me wrong, got that back home, in the worse possible way at times. Be real easy just to do what others do, [And... maybe Remy did now and then, when being faced with the worse that humans threw at mutants or others. He wasn't 'one of the good guys', he didn't ever feel the need to play by the rules the X-Men did back home. Hardly the high road, but Remy had little patience for bigots.] 'nd I got no where to go with that. Sometimes much easier, 'nd much more satisfyin' than ignorin' it.
[Action]
THERE WAS A REVOLUTION SOME TIME AGO IN A LARGE CITY CALLED ANKH-MORPORK. THE DESPOT AT THE TIME WAS DEEMED FIT TO BE FORCEFULLY REMOVED BY THE VERY PEOPLE WHO PAID TAXES TO HIM. ON BUSY NIGHTS LIKE THAT ONE, IT IS OFTEN THOSE WHO DEFY POLITENESS AND COMPLACENCY WHO STAND VICTORIOUS. GRANTED, I CAN'T GUARANTEE YOUR SUCCESS, BUT I WILL HOPE FOR IT, SHOULD THAT NIGHT COME TO YOU.
[Action]
Though as Remy did many times, both in life and on the Fleet, he chose to brush that kind of thoughts aside. He couldn't do anything, either here or at home. Better to just lay low and try not to stick out too much. And enjoy whatever time he had.] Not that 'ny of that matters here, haven't had 'nyone show up here that got a counter point to it all, so far.
[Action]
THEN PERHAPS IT IS MORE APPROPRIATE TO HOPE THAT BEING HERE WILL AFFORD YOU SOME KIND OF PEACE OF MIND.
[Action]
Especially considering Remy was just getting over the fact he was talking to Death.] Good luck in ya food shoppin', feel free to give a yell if ya need help again.
