Anyone here good with cybernetics? Or - I don't know, computers? Advanced stuff, can give you the specfics if you're interested. Don't need you right now, I'm just covering my ass just in case.

[he pauses, and maybe realizes he should . . . introduce himself. Like a normal person would. You know, instead of just getting down to business]

Months? Holy shit. [he makes a face] If you've got a crock pot up here, that's good for making a bunch of food that lasts a while. Not as long as dried stuff, but. [why is your room just for storage Sorey]

A crock pot? [WHAT KIND OF AMAZING FUTURISTIC DEVICE IS THAT

Sorey drags out the jerky he has left from its place on the shelf, opening up a large leather sack to withdraw smaller bags.] Hm...so this one is red meat, pretty heavy...got it off these things that looked like prickleboars, this is goat, this...is dinosaur? Yeah, yeah this one is dinosaur.

Yeah, it's like - a big pot you can throw a bunch of stuff into and slow cook it. I'm pretty sure you can cook literally anything in it, but a lot of folks use it for stews. [he scratches at his cheek, thoughtful] Maybe this place has one and I can hook it up to show you.

[he may not look it but this disaster at least knows how to cook.

Ben peers into the room to watch curiously, eyebrows shooting up. Leather pouch and everything - totally old-fashioned, totally awesome] Dinosaur? No way.

Yeah!! [MOTHERFUCKIN DINO SAUR] That's what the wildlife book called it anyhow. It's kind of tough and takes a long time to chew, but it's really filling. Here, [and Sorey withdraws a hunting knife from a sheath at his hip, takes out a hunk of the raptor jerky and slices off a hunk before handing it to Ben.]

[he isn't one to turn down free food, but there's no way he could live with himself if he turned down dinosaur - he takes it curiously, looking it over before he takes a bite]

—wow, yeah, that is tough. Not bad though. [but back to the important part] What kind of dinosaur?

It was called a raptor? [Sorey kind of does a finger-thing and hunches over to demonstrate] Big ol' guy. I only barely managed to take it down.

. . . you took down a raptor.

[Sorey wasn't kidding when they said they could defend themselves, damn] Yeah, they're, uh - supposed to be real tough.

[monolike]

It was! Claws everywhere, and huge teeth and it was really smart! [Cuts off a piece of jerky for himself and tears at it with his teeth.] Mmph- th' book said they usually hunt in pairs or packs, but I got attacked by one tha' was alone? 's probably the only reason I could kill it by myself.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Geez, I guess I'll add dinosaurs to the warning list. [things he never thought he'd ever say for $500] And here I thought aliens would be the dangerous shit.

[monolike]

Well, I haven't seen them on any of the planets since so it's not too big a worry. I think it's just a general 'flora and fauna' warning, like if you went out in the wilderness anywhere. [Gnaws off another hunk] You like it? Wanna try a the others?

A general warning, wow. I don't know if I should think it's cool or avoid the woods forever. Dinosaurs are extinct where I'm from - like millions of years dead extinct. [he nods] This is good - it's different. Could I? You got any other weird ones?

[monolike]

[Yeah Sorey heard that too, which honestly sounds dope as heck. Why can't his world have dinos that aren't actually horrendous horrific rage monsters born from the twisted souls of suffering humans???? la m e] Weird? Hmm, uh... [Sorey overturns the leather sack and dumps out all the plastic bags of jerky, shuffling through them and peering at the labels.] Maybe...this one? [Holds out a bag to Ben. These pieces are thankfully already in little shreds so he can just open it up and take some for himself.] I really don't know what to call this thing, but the meat is really soft. Even after smoking it out, it still shreds like paper.

[Ben takes the accepted bag and, after a bit of fumbling, gets it open and takes a piece. He closes it and tosses it onto the pile with the others before taking a bite]

—that is soft. Huh. [he pops the rest in his mouth in approval] Not bad, though. Kinda reminds me of barbecue, a little. People who smoke their meat 'til it shreds like that for - whatever the fuck they put it in.

Oh, yeah yeah I know what you mean! Man, that takes forever. Watching a fire for that long, making sure it doesn't get too hot...what a pain. [Shuffles through a few more bags.] Do you like spicy? This one's just rabbit jerky but I made it pretty hot.

[privateeyed]

Yeah, it's like - a whole day process or something. I mean, it's probably worth it in the end, but that takes a lot of patience. [his eyebrows shoot up at the offer, his lips twitching into a wry look] As tempting as it is I'll have to pass. I can't do spicy food.

[monolike]

Got it, no spicy. [NOD NOD NOD. He'll pick a savory one then, probably pretty close to beef jerky if a little bit more gamey.] Here, this one's pretty inoffensive. I always snack on it too much.

[privateeyed]

I want to do spicy, but I'm trying to make a good impression. [Sorey you're his favorite person so far, feeding him all this good stuff] —okay, this one? This one's really good.

[monolike]

Okey dokey, I'll put the rest of this one aside for you then. [Withdraws a marker from the pile of stuff from the bag and writes what's probably "Ben" in his own world's script onto the label of the bag.] For that duct tape! Or whatever else you can find, I'm not picky. I love books too, history and anthropology and stuff.

[he'd question what language that is but all he can see is blurry squiggles, oh well] I'll bring back a bit of both, then. Dunno if I'll get lucky on the book front, but I'll try.

[Gotta get that eye checked buddy] I bet you'll do fine. No matter where we stop, there's always something to read. And it's cool if it's in some strange language, I can read a little of the more common ones for this galaxy.

[he has glasses they're just at home] Define "common" ones, 'cause I'll keep an eye out for those kinds. All I can pick out is Spanish, though, so no promises.

[YES HE DOES!!!! FOR FRIENDSHIP!] Anyway, it's okay if you don't find anything! As you can see the jerky's all just kind of sitting here anyhow, taking up space. I could just give it to you...
