For Science!

Who: Hunk and You
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Planet side
When: Now

[A low hum come over the feed as the video cuts to the interior of the SS Heron’s Engine Room. Standing in front of the little work bench was it’s engineer, Hunk. To either side of him were small metal scraps that appeared to be spare parts he was tinkering with.]

Hey everyone, Hunk here. I know last time and I was on broadcast Lance and I almost set the kitchen on fire. Don’t worry, Paladin’s Pantry will be back, but I’m not here to talk about that.

[Hunk paused to sigh, shifting his weight under his feet.]

I was just wondering if there was any other techies out there who would be interested in doing some experiments. I have a few projects rattling around in my head that I have put on hold for awhile now. Can shoot you the dets if you’re interested. Or even if there is something you want to work on, that would be good too. I just want a sounding board to bounce ideas off of, talk some shop.

Drop me a line if you have to collaborate. I’ll bake us something for brain fuel. Can’t think on an empty stomach you know!

[And with a smile and a small wave, the feed goes dark.]

[Despite not being able to get in contact with the surface of this new planet the Fleet stopped at, Hunk decided to check it out anyways. For all he knew, there could be people in trouble and for some reason can’t call for help. Also… if he happened across some new ingredient along the way.... That would just be an added bonus. But, he wasn’t ready for what he found.

The shuttle landed just outside the city limits on an little dune in the desert and Hunk climbed out. Already the stillness he was greeted with didn’t sit right with him, yet he pushed through his unease and pressed on to investigate further. Hunk took pause at the welcome sign as he passed it, entering what appeared the be the residential district. Seeing the hauntingly deserted streets was definitely giving him bad vibes. It reminded him of when he first arrived at the Fleet and was alone on the Marsiva. This really felt like a start of a bad horror movie. Maaaaybe he shouldn’t have gone here alone. Maybe he should have called Lance or Keith for back up. Or maybe he needs to stop being a weenie cause you’re one of the Paladins of Voltron.

Well… this isn’t creepy. Where did everyone go?

[The question was muttered more to himself than anything else as he wandered down the streets, going deeper. I mean… it wasn’t just empty. The buildings were still in perfect array like they were frozen in time. Like, if it was abandoned for any stretch of time, you would expect some level of structural decay. There was also no obvious signs of a struggle or panic from the inhabitants. Everything was in perfect order. It was like they just… spirited away. Man he should have brought some equipment down to do readings.

Walking down one of the main streets a sign caught his eye, “Fresh Produce”. Well now, he of course had to check it out. For science. Obviously. Unexpectedly when he entered the grocery store, Hunk was pleasantly surprised to find it fully stock. But not only that, it did in fact looked ‘farm fresh’. He probably should be more concerned about that than he has with, you know, the whole town being the way that it was. Maybe it was a trap? Welp, better take some samples to be tested~

Hunk took one of the little hand baskets and precedes to fill it up with a little bit of everything. A little bit of fruit, veggies, some cheese, and of course chocolate. Only the essentials. But then, his heart stopped. Going down one of the numbered isle Hunk made eye contact with the spices and there it was, cinnamon. Yes he’s still on this. No, he’s not going to let it go. Holding back tears of joy, Hunk dumps the whole spice rack into the basket.

[Katara was just doing some shopping herself, looking for spices in fact because even one week of the protein goop was too much, and she was from the South Pole so that was saying something, when she heard a loud clatter.

She rushed to the next aisle to see -- oh, there are the spices -- and a young man who is obviously very moved that he's found them.

Which... is great for him, really, but...]
Hey, save some for the rest of us.
