Video/Action- First Pirate Transmission
Who: Panem!Bucky
Broadcast: Yes
Action: The Bridge of the Wonderduck
When: Now
[The video opens with a view of Bucky's face, hair short, face scruffy and a steel determination in his expression as though challenging the very fleet to suddenly do something and prove all his paranoid assumptions correct.]
The last time I was on a show for other's entertainment, we were made to fight and kill each other until only one person was left. Supposedly that's not the case here. Yet.
I assume some of you have been making attempts to learn more about this place and the people behind it.
[A pause. 'What do you know' was on the tip of his tongue, but he was the offworlder now. He didn't hold a single damn card in his hand he knew it too well. He hated it. He'd have to change that.]
What do we know?
[Anyone on the ship itself for any reason will find Bucky at the comms station, waiting for responses and seeing exactly how far the system would allow him to hack until the firewalls caught him. Sometimes you had to test the strength of the bars when you were in a cage.]

But instead, there he stood, as promised, and looking no more dangerous than Bucky expected him to look.
He moved closer, closing the distance to something comfortable but not too close.]
Hey.
You look good.
[Better than he was expecting for the 'Winter' thing. Maybe it was something else Bucky didn't know about, something with this version. Maybe he should actually ask.]
How long have you been trapped in this fleet?
no subject
[ Of course he keeps his distance, it's to be expected. Nobody in the fleet is trustworthy yet, and Bucky's not the man this one knows. All the same, he's a new member of the fleet feeling out of his depth, and he knows what would make him feel safe. He'd managed to find a handgun, a box of bullets, and a few daggers.
Bucky sighs, rubbing the back of his neck as he thinks about it. ]
Almost three years, now.

That's a long time.
[Almost how long the Quarter Quell had lasted back home before the war had started.]
Before I ask you anything else, why 'Winter?' Isn't that part of the name they gave you? The people who hurt you?
[It felt like if he decided to go around letting people call him 'Reaper' as his actual name and not just the title The Capitol had 'affectionately' given him. It had served a purpose when taking down marks in the Capitol or infiltrating places for information or even hacking into places for their data, it had been a useful trademark to be the Capitol's long lost Rural Reaper, but it had only ever been a reminder of what he'd been forced to do, not a badge he'd hold to as an identity. He needed to understand.]

[ At least he can have some semblance of life here that seems to escape him back home. He expects the question, especially after his apparent dislike of it. Bucky knows how it might be a bad thing, but it was what he had. ]
When I got here, I was still deep in their programming. I didn't have much to give in name. Someone else who was here settled on 'Winter'. Here, it became something that was mine and not what they gave me. Only started going by Bucky again within the past eight months or so.

[Some of Sam's friends had said Panem was better than where they'd been before, all things considered and that was mind-numbing for Bucky to consider, but then, all he had to do was look at how many people had stayed behind instead of going home when they had the chance to know that sometimes it wasn't about where was 'better.' Sometimes it was about what you had 'here.'
And he did understand where Winter was coming from. Even if this places was as bad as Bucky was suspecting, that didn't mean it was completely without merit. At least for some of the people here.
Bucky himself still had every intention of trying to crack it open and get back.]
I get it. Winter it is, then. But if you change your mind, let me know. I don't make a habit of talking about myself in the third person, so if you want me to call you Bucky, you just have to ask.
Now, [Business.] you said something about being able to help one of my problems?
no subject
He nods in reply. ] I will. Figured it was easier with two of us around now. Distinction is important. [ Business is important, and he nods over to a bag sitting on a storage crate. Inside is a set of knives, a handgun with a box of bullets, and a cleaning kit. ]
Not much, but it should get you started.

It's more than enough. I've had to improvise more than once. Used a snake t kill a guy once.
[He says it distractedly, far more comfortable talking to this version than he ought to be, and instantly regrets the comment. Kid. He'd killed a kid with a snake. Fourteen, only three years younger than him at the time. District 7. Darnell. He should be twenty-three now.
He bit the inside of his bottom lip as he put everything back and slung the bag over his shoulder. As he faced Winter, he tried for a smile.]
Thanks. I'll bring the bag back once I'm more settled. I appreciate that you were willing to help.

Winter shrugs a shoulder. ] Not concerned about it, keep it if it's useful to you. They're easy enough to come by. I know what it's like first getting here with nothing. Whatever helps put you at ease- I've been collecting for a while, so I won't miss them.

Alright. [He paused.] It might not mean much to you, but if you need me for anything, just call. I don't know what that might be, but just in case. [He couldn't help the offer. Their walls were both still firmly in place and likely would be for some time, and there likely wasn't a whole lot Bucky could offer Winter that he couldn't get from someone else...but it's what instinct demanded. Offering help, a possibility of working on something, it was the only other comfort he had right now besides the weapon in hand.]
