[The video opens with a view of Bucky's face, hair short, face scruffy and a steel determination in his expression as though challenging the very fleet to suddenly do something and prove all his paranoid assumptions correct.]

The last time I was on a show for other's entertainment, we were made to fight and kill each other until only one person was left. Supposedly that's not the case here. Yet.

I assume some of you have been making attempts to learn more about this place and the people behind it.

[A pause. 'What do you know' was on the tip of his tongue, but he was the offworlder now. He didn't hold a single damn card in his hand he knew it too well. He hated it. He'd have to change that.]

What do we know?

[Anyone on the ship itself for any reason will find Bucky at the comms station, waiting for responses and seeing exactly how far the system would allow him to hack until the firewalls caught him. Sometimes you had to test the strength of the bars when you were in a cage.]

[ stubborn, indeed and unlikely to change his mind, not even a little. it sounds as if he could use help, or company, or both and steve jumps right into action mode, already walking to the shuttle bay as he types the next message, short and dipped in something that was formed in his days as a soldier and that he can't seem to shake off. ]

[It made him nervous. Maybe more like anxious, but he was used to keeping anything he was feeling from his...anything. He was long practiced in an even tone and expression.]

The Space Bar.

[His previous unease when he'd first stepped into the bar to meet Natasha had settled into a vague static at the back of his mind. This place wasn't so bad as far as atmosphere went and no one had tried to force him into more than the glass of water he'd been nursing.]

[ steve's favorite part of the iskaulit is probably the library, followed closely by the gardens. he doesn't frequent the space bar, least of all because it seems rather pointless when he can't get drunk. his visits to the place are mostly exactly for the reason he comes there today, meetings, conversations held in a more private setting.

he slips into a seat, clean-shaven and as simply-dressed as ever. ]

Hey.

[Definitely harder in person. The differences were obvious, his Steve had been scrawny and short and Rogers was anything but, and yet their faces were the same, their eyes and the earnest expressions they could wear. That was what made it harder.

But it wasn't as soul-crushing to look at Rogers as it had been before. Time heals all, even something that would never actually heal. Instead, it was just an ache and, as with Peggy, the knowledge this man could ask him to walk into a burning building and Bucky would.]

You didn't have to come see me. I'm not the Bucky you know, I'm not even from Earth.

[But it's Steve, so of course he did. He looked away.]

I don't want to be your obligation, Steve, you don't owe me anything.

You're not going to let me have a drink in peace, are you?

[ even though all he ends up ordering is the space version of orange juice. he leans back in his seat. ]

Fella can't come by and say hello?

[ and, warning or not, assurance or not, he's a friend. because he's bucky. and he's right there. it's a good thing. ]

How are you, Buck?

[That yanks a laugh from him.]

That's not much of a drink, Stevie.

[Dammit. He winces and takes a drink from his equally tame water.]

I won't lie, it's confusing. Difficult. Frustrating. I'm not used to being on this side of things.

[That warranted a bit of explanation.]

Back home, people like you, all of you, were brought to Panem to participate in my government's murder games. I'm used to being the one to help those people, explain what's going on, offering them a way to fight back, offering some insight into my country and how they can survive it. This...I don't know what to do with this. I never thought I'd be the offworlder.

Well, you're not alone in this. we're going to help. we all remember what it's like to be new around here.

[ 'we' he says, offering himself and a wider net of security. there's peggy, nat, sam. ]

whatever you need, we'll be here.

'Preciate it. I'll try not to lean on you all too much.

[Even with the offer made openly, he couldn't let himself get that comfortable. Not even for Steve and Peggy.

Speaking of...]

Peg says you're the first mate of her ship. Seems fitting. [There'd never been a question as to who the leader of their little group back home had been.]
