Broadcast to the SS Caprine
I have appreciated having you as compatriots since I first arrived. Current circumstances have required me to move to another ship however. There was no option not to transfer.

In light of the fact that my move has left the Caprine without lab support, I am offering to assist the Caprine in this regard until the ship gains medical support of their own. If you need me for any reason, you can contact me or I'll be on the Blameless now.

[New ship, only slightly different. The basic design wasn't too different from the SS Caprine. However, there were things about it that were different. It had been customized by a different crew than the Caprine had had.

So this called for investigation! After going to the lab at the back of ship and looking it over to make sure everything was in order, he headed out into the corridor to explore the ship. Especially if he was going to be the First Mate of the Blameless, he needed to know where everything was.

He's just wandering the public areas of the ship. Maybe he'll run into one of the crew at some point]

[Ulaz could definitely hear the thumping as he walked into the cargo hold. He had made his way over to the source of the sound, it having been unusual from something he'd heard on the Caprine.

And that would be why. The Caprine hadn't had a punching bag. He paused some distance away, observing the other's fighting style. It was much more crude than the way the Blades generally fought, but it did have its merits.

During the pauses from hitting the bag, he could faintly hear the beat from what he was listening to though he couldn't place the exact location of the beat. It was too low, but he could hear it.

He didn't speak for the moment, waiting for either a significant pause or to be noticed. Not like he was hard to miss really... he was pretty tall]

[Definitely hard to miss, which is why Messer pauses at the end of his next set of punches, taking a step back and flexing his palms to release the tension. He lifts a hand to his wrist, touching a silver bracelet, and the beat of the music stops abruptly.]

Can I help you?

[His tone is polite but brisk; he doesn't know you, and therefore doesn't trust you, but hey! Could be new crew, so let's not fight just yet.]

[Yeah, it was a little hard not to spot a purple alien with yellow eyes when they were the only one in the fleet. He did notice that whatever band the other was wearing seemed to control the music, wherever it had been coming from]

I was exploring the ship. I am Ulaz, the new lab support for this ship.

[He wouldn't say he hadn't wanted to interrupt because if he really hadn't he wouldn't have stood there]

You are?

[At least he doesn't appear to bat an eye at the whole purple-alien thing. If the guy was green Messer'd feel right at home.]

Messer. Supposedly maintenance.

[He's... still deciding on that one.]

Is the captain aware that you're here?

I see.

[Yes, the divisions in the Fleet weren't exactly normal. Not that they were strange, but they weren't completely normal either]

He is aware. I thought it would be best to see the spaces on the ship. The public ones anyway. In case I need to know.

[He wasn't going to point out that he was the First Mate yet. It was arbitrary rank that Shiro had asked him to take. He didn't want to seem like he was throwing his weight around. If he really had to, he didn't need to have a title to do that]

Good. Many of the ships have a similar layout, but better to know them than not.

[He makes a broad gesture towards the rest of the bay; explore freely, if you like. Don't let him stop you.

...Though he's gonna be watching, because stranger danger.]

They are very similar. There wasn't a punching bag on the Caprine though.

[He paused a moment to look at it before looking around the bay. He did take a step in the direction of examining the bay. He had a feeling Messer was watching him, but it wasn't unexpected]

Have you been in the fleet long?

Not long. It hasn't yet been a month. And you?

[Messer switches to a series of stretches so the noise of the punching bag won't distract him. He keeps Ulaz in his peripheral just in case, but it's subtle.]

It has been several months based on this world's calculations. I don't believe it has been three yet.

[Ulaz was exploring, but he wasn't touching anything, keeping his hands to himself. Yes, he should probably know what was here, but it wasn't his place to move things around. He wouldn't appreciate someone moving things around in his lab so he won't do that to someone else]

You transferred, then?

[Ah, that's why he mentioned Caprine. Messer hasn't been to all of the other ships yet, so it didn't click immediately.]

Yes, from the Caprine. I was there since I arrived until only a few hours ago.

[He wouldn't hold it against him. Ulaz hadn't actually said he had transferred, only that the Caprine didn't have a punching bag]

The captain asked me to take the position on this ship.

[WHAT THE SHIT]

I've been trying to transfer all month. Are there rules I'm not aware of?

I wasn't aware there were specific rules. I'm not sure who is in final control of it. I would guess the Atroma. Has it been denied or simply not acknowledged?

[And he makes note that he should probably ask Shiro about Messer]

...Both.

[Ugh. And here he thought he'd been annoyed about it before... now he's feeling it twicefold.

He starts up another round against the punching bag, this time carrying a bit more aggression. No wonder everyone hates Atroma so much.]

[...How undignified that he was lashing out that much. One really should have more control. But he wasn't going to say that out loud. He move back closer when Messer began to go after the punching bag even more.

He did raise his voice enough to be heard over the sound of the other hitting the bag]

I will speak with the captain to get more information about this. The First Mate is able to do that.

[And now the first time he had announced his new position]

In the meantime, there should be accommodations that can be made.

[...Ah. Messer pauses at the title.]

Was that the purpose of your transfer?

[In a way, it's comforting; a captain that prioritizes the proper chain of command is a good sign.]

[That was better. Easier for them to talk when he was beating up on that punching bag]

One of several reasons for the transfer. He trusts my abilities.

Good to know. I can't say that I trust many in the fleet yet, as we're still strangers, but he seems reliable enough.

I would trust him with my life if the situation came to it. Of course that is only my word until you decide if you can trust that judgement or not.

Are there others from your world in the fleet?

[Messer shrugs; trust might come in time, not just in Shiro but in Ulaz himself. He's not about to lean one way or the other until something causes him to do so.]

A few. They might come around here once in a while.

[Though he's mostly over there- he spends at least half the time off-ship.]

It is good then that you have comrades who can come around. I cannot begin to figure out how different it would have been had I not had the paladins from my home world.

[He doesn't yet know that Messer spends most of his time off ship, but there was nothing inherently wrong with that as long as he was there when needed]

[His brow quirks. He's not familiar with that one.]

Paladins?

Paladins is the official title of those who pilot Voltron, a weapon used in our world. The pilots are here. The machine is not.

"Pilot" a weapon... is it some sort of mech?

[Since normally one doesn't pilot weapons, he has to ask.]

They are robotic lions. There are five of them in total.

[So yes there are ships and weapons combined?]
