[Of course, he seems as friendly as a rock, but she's sort of used to that anyway between Lon'qu, Gerome and Laurent.]

Oh. I suppose I should have contacted him before I just showed up. I...should— [Lucina stops in the middle of what she's about to say and blinks.] No, don't put yourself out for me, and you can call me Lucina.

Some people might have reasons for turning it down.

[Kaname chuckles a little, shaking her head in dismissal of the objections.] It's hardly putting myself out. Trust me, it's nice to have guests. I imagine Messer told you this ship and not his for a reason, but that's only a guess. [Even with as well as she knows him.]

Only a fool would turn down the opportunity to spar with a capable opponent.

[And she's hardly a fool.]

If he's not normally on this ship, which does he reside upon? I've yet to go searching the ships' rosters to find out who is manning which, but I suppose that is also something I should do.

[All she knows is her brother is on the Caprine, she's on the Heron, and Messer said he would be on the Bloodsport. The others, she'll have to check out now.]

[Kaname gestures for Lucina to follow her to the kitchen as she starts to take out some food to feed the two.]

He's assigned to the Blameless, though he spends about half his time sleeping here. [Smiling, Kaname looks back.] We are, yes. We've known each for for a while.

[She's not sure if she would be listened to if she were to decline the other woman's offer of food. Besides, it gives Lucina the chance to observe her while she moves around the kitchen area.]

It sounds as if he finds it comforting to be close to someone he knows from home, even if he isn't exactly the most expressive from what I gathered during our initial meeting. But I imagine it's comforting to you as well.

Messer is... reserved, but he's a good person. We looked out for each other back home, and we intend to do the same here. It's a little more than comforting.

[Lucina might hear the smile in her voice as she takes out some plates.]

I know a few people like that. Reservation doesn't make someone impossible.

[She is also a little reserved, so it's okay with her. Overly friendly people that she's not longtime friends with are still hard for her to get used to.

Something in the other woman's voice reminds Lucina of the way her father and mother talk about one another.]

[And that sound? It's the sound of Kaname being so startled that she drops a plate to shatter on the floor. Nice work, Lucy!]

Wha-- No, no we're not. [It's the quickest reply she's given in a bit, and she feels almost guilty for denying it so fast. Crouching down, she starts to gather the pieces of the fallen dish.]

It's... a long story, but we're not together. I have a boyfriend here.

[Lucina jumps up and rushes over to make sure the other woman is okay. She doesn't see any blood or obvious wounds, so she just bends down to help her clean up the mess.]

I didn't mean to offend you. It's just... you remind me of other couples I know.

[She looks down at her hands, embarrassed for her assumption.]

No, there's no offense at all. [If she were to stop and think on it, which she won't, the idea itself isn't one she'd immediately write off. But that ship has sailed, both at home and here.

Kaname shakes her head, offering a comforting smile.]

He's important to me, I won't deny that at all. Beyond that, it's complicated, but there's nothing like that between us.

[Once she finds and gathers what seem to be all the pieces, she head towards the disposal area or however that works on the ship, tossing them in.]

You may, but it's more his story to tell. I'm not certain he'd want me sharing it so readily.

[Lucina stares down at her hands, unsure of what she should be doing. Relaxing isn't something that comes easily to her.]

Ah, that makes sense. He does come off as a very private person.

Yes. I'm still learning new things despite how long I've known him.

[There's a soft smile along with her statement. It's not really a bad thing.]

But that's the nice thing about meeting new people, they never fail to surprise you.

[Lucina thinks to when she first allowed herself to meet her father and mother in the past and nods knowingly.]

People that you think you know rather well surprise you, like Messer and yourself. That's true. Although, I'd rather save myself the constant surprise of too many new people all at once again.
