Who: Furisoa
Broadcast: Video
Action: Starstruck, Iskaulit
When: The rest of the month
Video
[The feed opens on Furiosa, and she's got something with her; a book, or two, or apparently a small handful.] Grabbed some reading material. If anyone wants to swap, let me know. Figured we could pool our resources.
Starstruck
[In her endeavor to crack into the meat of who is Furisoa really she's ventured into the wonderful wide world of hobbies. The extent of which is truncated due to the limitations of space, but she was able to procure a few books and has settled herself in the Starstruck's galley with a cup of coffee to dig in. What's she reading? Currently in her hands is Power Without Glory by Frank Hardy, but feel free to find a few other titles in the stack on the table.]
Iskaulit
[She is still, however, not one to spend all of her time sitting back. When she's had enough of book time, or just needs a moment to stretch her legs, she's back in the gardens on the Iskaulit, tending to plants and enjoying being around living, green things. In paricular, there's a peach tree there she's quite proud of; young, but flourishing.]

Iskaulit
[She is still, however, not one to spend all of her time sitting back. Iskaulit
Carol finds herself drawn to the garden. If nothing else, at least she can see something grow. It reminds her of the Kingdom, and Ezekiel, and Morgan. The feelings are complicated, but in this place where they can't find her and interrupt her thoughts she's able to take some time and sort through them.
There's another woman in the garden. One who looks like she's equally accustomed to combat but awed rather than comforted by growing things. Carol recognizes the tree that's demanding most of her attention.
Carol approaches quietly, but makes sure that a few of her footfalls are audible before she speaks. When she does, it's with a soft smile. ]
Wish I could show you the peach trees back home. Peaches this big. [ She holds her hands a generous width apart to demonstrate. ] They don't travel well when they're that big, though. This one sure is pretty.
Re: Iskaulit
Really? That's an amazing thought.
[She steps back and looks at her own tree. It's still young, but it's thriving, and given its history she's happy it's come this far.] I've been carrying around this pit for years, I'm surprised it grew at all.
[She's had to do her fair share of crash course plant tending, but additionally the advanced agriculture and science of the Atroma meant it had a much better chance here than home in the first place.] Was your world very green?

I'm not much of a farmer. Everything I know, I learned from Maggie. And I barely scratched the surface. But I think seeds can keep for a long long time if you store them right. Mostly don't let them get too wet or too cold.
[ Her next question earns a wry smile ]
Lots of living things. [ Lots that shouldn't be. ] If you were carrying a peach pit around for years, I'm gonna guess yours wasn't.
no subject
No, not really. It was a wasteland. Oasis pockets existed, but ... the green places there are few and short-lived. I had to learn a few things since I've been here. You won't find lack of experience around here to pull from.
You're new to the Atroma, I take it? I'm Furiosa, Starstruck.

Carol, Heron. [ She offers her hand. ] So how long of a shower did you take when you first got here? I think mine was an hour and a half.

So many dead. She wonders what they do with the bodies, here. Probably just throw them out an airlock. Let them float in space. ]
There's a lot that feels weird, here. Like I shouldn't let my guard down.

I've been there. It takes some time. You don't ever really feel at ease, and while the surrounding space does harbor bandits and not every planet or station we visit is safe, the battles are few and far between. There is the chance to breathe.
[She turns to face Carol,] If you ever feel like you can't, let me or Max know. He's from my world - he'll understand.
no subject
Max. [ She repeats the name to commit it to memory. ] Maggie and Carl, they're from where I'm from. If you need the same.
[ She's quiet for a bit. ] We're not really free, though. [ Carol says quietly. ] They took that and gave us this kind of safe instead.

[Death, the great equalizer. Until you come someplace like the fleet and Atroma and its weird power to bring people back, such as herself and Max.]
By the way, if you need weapons, I know a few good ways to get them.
no subject
Really? I have access to the ship armory already. Are there other ways?
no subject
Security officers are the only ones who do - and, at least from my world's perspective, their stock is ... lacking. I like keeping a variety of deterrents on hand.
no subject
I thought maybe that was because they didn't have to deal with too much that needed shooting. I take it that's not the case? [ She smiles wryly. ] So where do I stock up?
no subject
[She thinks for a moment about the engagements she's already been a part of on this fleet.] Generally, no, there isn't much reason for shooting, but when there is ... it's good to be prepared.
no subject
[ She repeats quietly, committing it to memory. There's so many names, on top of everything else she has to learn. At least Furiosa will be easy to remember. ]
It's good to be prepared. It's also good to be flexible. Improvisation has saved me just as often as a gun.
[ She tries not to be too dependent on any specific single thing, or even type of thing. Adapt to survive, et cetera. ]
no subject
Anything can be a weapon. [She smiled slightly. Carol had a good head on her shoulders. Furiosa certainly had her strengths on the battlefield, but if you limited yourself to that, it was giving openings to your enemies.]
no subject
I've known my fair share of reclusive types. I'll keep that in mind.
[ She sighs a bit at the weapon talk, even as she engages in it. ]
Yeah. It's weird how quickly you can start thinking like that and how hard it is to stop.
[ Will she ever truly relax ever again? Or will she always be waiting for the other shoe to drop? ]
no subject
It doesn't ever truly go away. But, it does get easier with time.
no subject
I guess I got that to look forward to.
[ She smiles. It's not a happy one, but more hopeful that she might be closer to happy at some point. ]
Thanks for talking with me, Furiosa. I think I'm gonna look around some more.
no subject
I'll see you around.
