I don't suppose I could click my heels three times. . . [ Only Clark gets his little joke. ]

I'll keep this brief. My name is Clark - I'm from Kansas.

[ He's been the new guy at work often enough to sound chill about this, but he is feeling a little shaky having woken up here in the middle of his workday. To top it off, not being able to hear his mother's heartbeat is jarring.

There's some stress baking in Clark's future. ]

What do you make of this place? I'm curious to know how it compares to where you come from.

[At most, the suit would simply make the Bull curious. He suffices with no shirt most of the time, for a variety of reasons including it's damned hard to get a shirt on over those horns.

He nods a greeting and takes a seat across from him, choosing to put his back to the giant window instead of staring off into space, literally, while they talked.]

Thedas.

[Specifically stating Par Vollen was definitely a waste of breath. They guy'd never seen a Qunari, or at least heard of them. Also, his accent didn't match anything the Bull had ever heard, and his dress was completely alien.] What about you?

[ He's never heard of it, but that's not surprising, considering that Clark has never met anyone like Bull before.

He sits down next to him. ]

Kansas.

[ "Krypton" is a long story. Although "Earth" would be more accurate, wherever he's gone in the past fifteen years, Clark's always been from Kansas. ]

It's an agricultural area. What about Thedas?

[You know, that doesn't surprise the Bull in the slightest. This Clark has a power about his stride, and a certain posture that tells him he's used to working with his hands, probably doing manual labor. Not so much a fighter though, at least not trained.]

Farmer?

[Just a guess, but an educated one.]

Thedas is...everything. There's a lot of different countries. I'm from the far north, Par Vollen. It's warm there, lots of thick jungle, fruits, tree nuts. Monkeys. Bananas. It's not like the rest of Thedas. Of course, a lot of the rest of Thedas was controlled for a long time by a lot of crazy mages, so that's probably part of it.

[ Clark nods: he had always felt it was honest work. It was the hiding he didn't agree with. ]

I beg your pardon - mages? Like. . . sorcerers?

[ Mind. Blown. ]

[Okay, that's...interesting.]

Uh, yeah. Like that.

[He pauses.]

Kansas doesn't have mages?

[ Clark shakes his head. ]

Magic [ doesn't exist ] isn't openly practiced.

Weird. [Okay, so it's not weird that magic isn't openly practiced. It's not in several places on Thedas, either.] Why's it matter?

[Because he's getting the idea it's not about 'practice' or not, but he's going to let Clark lead this one.]

[ He can almost hear his father telling him people are afraid of what they don't understand. ]

I haven't met anyone who practices magic to ask them exactly why. [ He pauses. ]

If I were to guess. . . I'd say it might invite more trouble than it's worth to be open about it.

Well, from what I've seen, you'll get a chance real soon.

[And he's not sure he likes that idea, but it's more about the space travel than anything else.]

Heh, you're not wrong, but mages can't really help it, I guess. There are worse things to be.

[But the tone in his voice doesn't suggest he has a problem with mages.]

[ They all will. There's too many people here for somebody not to know.

Clark looks up at him curiously. ]

Why, what's it like in Thedas?

Really?

[He raised an eyebrow.]

You really want me to tell you about the whole world? What's it like in Kansas?

We have plenty of time, why not talk? [ He's genuinely curious. ]

Thedas for Kansas seems like a fair trade.

[After Bull asked how that sounded like a fair trade when he had no idea how large Kansas was and Clark had no idea how large Thedas was they compromised: Orlais for Kansas. Bull told him about how the Orlesians prize "the Grand Game" over all else, a system of intrigue, assassination, seduction, and manipulation that includes the wearing of masks by nearly everyone. How it's gone on so long the masks are just considered a part of their culture, and are just as opulent as the rest of their country.

How it is, or at least was, also the center of most organized religion on Thedas, but he does illustrate that he doesn't pay much attention to the Chantry, he wasn't raised in it.]
