I don't suppose I could click my heels three times. . . [ Only Clark gets his little joke. ]

I'll keep this brief. My name is Clark - I'm from Kansas.

[ He's been the new guy at work often enough to sound chill about this, but he is feeling a little shaky having woken up here in the middle of his workday. To top it off, not being able to hear his mother's heartbeat is jarring.

There's some stress baking in Clark's future. ]

What do you make of this place? I'm curious to know how it compares to where you come from.

I am indeed.

[He says that as easily as another might say 'Yes, I do work here.' There's no real surprise evident at his name being recognised either.]

Did you hear about me from your home, or from this place?

A little bit of both. I've heard of Asgard from home, and I spoke to someone else who said he was from there.

Ah, then you spoke to Loki.

[They are the only two, after all.]

Asgard is fairly well known within our own universe, but I know tales of it exist in others as well.

Yeah, he seemed nice. [ Famous last words. ]

I'm not sure if it exists in mine. [ He's a totally normal human, yep ] I wouldn't be surprised, though.

[Thor can't help grinning, even if it's not visible. Enjoying the presence of his brother is a quick way to win him over.]

It would depend on how much contact your world has with others, I expect. In my own universe Asgard ceased to visit Earth centuries ago, for instance.

[Until his own recent activities at least.]

Not a lot, but I'm going to say it exists until there's proof of otherwise. [ He prefers to believe. ]

If there are stories about it, it does.

[Overly confident, perhaps, but he knows how things stood on his own Earth.]

Is Kansas on Earth?

Yes, it is. In the midwestern United States, if that helps you.

A little. I spent the most time in New York when I was there.

[With some New Mexico, London, and Sokovia mixed in.]

Only you. . . or other Asgardians as well?

[ He's thinking along the lines of Asgardian tourists.

He definitely doesn't want to think about anyone as invaders, or having to come to Earth to fight. ]

Some others have been to Earth. Loki has. [Though the less said about that the better.] I am the only one to have lived there in recent times though. Asgard had a policy of not interfering with the affairs of Earth these past thousand years.

What changed, if I may ask?

In truth, it hasn't. The few incidents that have occurred were not the fault of Asgard as a kingdom.

[They were the fault of Thor himself, of Loki, and of Malekith. Still, he sighs.]

But Asgard no longer exists as it was, so things need to change. There will be more Asgardians arriving on Earth in the near future.

[An ironic turn of events for a realm that considered Midgard too backwards and primitive to have dealings with. Thor has no intention of letting that old sense of superiority guide him now though.]

[ Asgard no longer exists. Loki had told him they lived on a ship now. Losing their world. . . his heart goes out to them.

Clark falls quiet, wondering what to say. ]

I hope you're welcomed, and that there's plenty who'll stand with you.

[There's real warmth in Thor's reply, though it's measured.]

Thank you. That's my hope as well.

[He's not foolish. As much as Strange had implied Thor hadn't thought about the reception they might receive on Earth, the opposite was true. It wasn't going to be easy. It was still worth trying.]

[ Clark likes him already. He's just as easy to talk to as Loki.

After a polite pause, Clark asks. ]

I have an important question for you. What's your favourite Earth food?

Oh, hm. [Thor likes just about anything he eats, so this is harder than it should be.] Burgers are good! There are just so many types you can get.

[ Something Clark is very good at making! Thor's in for a treat. ]

There are.

A follow-up question, what about dessert?

Coffee.

[Thor, that isn't desert.]

That's not a dessert.

Sure, I know you can have it in the morning too.

[That's still his answer. He doesn't go in for desserts much.]

I used to have it with Jane after dinner though.

[ Clark will just have to introduce him to them, then. ]

Oh, long nights? I know the type.

[Thor chuckles.]

She does often spend all night working. I understand coffee helps with that.

Yeah, it does. Lois only takes hers black. [ He adds: ] That's very strong.

Oh yes, I know. I have it that way too.

[Not that it gives him that much of a kick, he just prefers it that way.]

It is a wonderful drink though. One of the first I had on Earth.
