[Ulaz was completely uninterested in participating in the competitions. Whatever competitive streak that had once been in him was gone now and he didn't particularly want to be involved in a situation with lots of cheering fans. There was something... just something that he couldn't stand about that.

It was tough though, avoiding all of the people who thought that he should sign up. And there were a lot of them. Of course he was patient to keep telling people that he wasn't going to sign up.

But he also wasn't against others participating as well and if someone were to ask him to come to one of the events to watch, he'd definitely come and watch. Because of his height he was usually in the back watching from a distance.

So what event did you ask him to come to?]

B Beach Practice
[It was early in the morning. The best time to avoid the crowds really. Ulaz headed down to the beach, a location that he hadn't seen for so long until arriving here. So he was going to take advantage of it while he had it.

Of course, this morning wasn't necessarily a normal "walk on the beach" sort of morning. He'd brought his new sword with him, the one that Sokka had made him. And he was practicing with it in almost slow motion movements, mimicking what he would normally do with a sword.

Was he just out practicing or was he waiting for someone else?]

[After a hard day on the planet, Ulaz headed up to the Iskaulit, claiming a seat at the Space Bar. He was really just there to grab a drink, ordering something as soon as he sat down. He wasn't waiting for anyone in particular.

Maybe he would like some company?]

[Was he waiting? Was he waiting for Keith? Who knew? But, either way, Keith's approach made it seem like a fairly casual meeting. There wasn't a big crowd around at this time of day, which was good. Keith spotted the new sword.]

That from Sokka?

[Who knows? Ulaz is an enigma. But Ulaz had been careful to select this time to practice so there wouldn't be the possibility of a crowd. He had no interest in participating in the games so there was no point in giving them a reason to ask.

He paused in mid-motion when Keith asked that question]

Yes, it is. It's surprisingly similar to my blade.

He had asked to see mine as part of his research after you asked him to make it for you.

[Keith walked closer to take a look.]

Looks like he did a good job.

Did he now?

[When Keith stepped closer to look at it, Ulaz stopped his practice and held the sword out so that Keith could take a look at it. The same way he had shown Keith his blade back on the Thaldycon base. He definitely has a healthy respect for swords]

I am pleased with it. It'll work well as a replacement.

[Keith nodded.]

I showed him. [He shrugged a little.] I didn't think it would hurt anything for him to know about how they work.

[He looked it over carefully.]

It won't change like yours, but this is a good one.

[He handed it back.]

I don't think it is hurting anything to have shown him. Not like that knowledge of what of the blade can do means much to anyone here. There's only one and she is not in a position to do anything with it.

No, it does not change, but it will serve its purpose well.

[He took his blade back from Keith]

You are out here to get away from the city?

[Keith nodded to both those things as Ulaz took his blade back.]

Yeah. It's a little quieter out here. I was never really into tourist traps. They get too crowded.

[He shrugged.]

[For the moment, Ulaz put his sword back in the sheath. He had paused practicing and he wasn't trying to fight with Keith so no reason to keep it out. Of course the fact he was wearing his sheath with more casual clothes might look a little odd to someone who didn't know him]

It is. I don't like the crowds. Too many people and too much noise.

[He'd had enough of that in his life]

[Keith snorted a little.]

Yeah. Agreed.

[He glanced around for a moment, and then back at Ulaz again.]

Have you gotten much time to work with the new blade, yet?

[He nodded to it.]

[Empty beaches are the best for early birdies, and that includes Shiro's morning run. He's always happy to do it on the planet instead of the Iskaulit if the setting is good for that, although Procyon isn't joining him today - he's tired after yesterday's activities and deserves to stay in.

And when Shiro notices Ulaz, well. He supposed he can take a break, too.]

Good morning, Ulaz. Finally got yourself armed again, huh?

[Ulaz picks up the sound of someone else on the beach while he's practicing even before he spots that it is Shiro, having been used to listening for sounds around him. Of course, he's also attempting to make as little sound as possible while he's practicing on the sand. Maybe that's partially why he had picked it]

I did. Your friend Sokka made this for me. It's a reasonable replacement for my luxite blade.

Sokka is really good, isn't he? I'm glad you went to him.

[He comes closer to take a better look at the blade - a damn good job, very similar to the original. Trust Sokka to get as many details right as possible.]

Has practicing your moves been working well or is there still a bit of adapting to do?

[He's never used a luxite blade before, he doesn't know if there's anything special to it besides the usual.]

He is good. I am pleased with this sword.

[When Shiro stepped closer to look at it, Ulaz held out the blade towards him in the same way he had shown them his blade back on the base]

It's fairly well balanced for what I am used to. There are some things I am learning about it though. It has some things that mine did not.

[Yes, he has a healthy respect for and understanding of how a sword worked beyond just swinging it at someone. Probably not a surprise for Shiro considering how he'd fought with them on the castle]

[Definitely not a surprise at all. Shiro grabs the sword and gives it a few swings before handing it back to Ulaz. He's not a blade master as his friend is, but he knows enough to handle the weapon well (just ask Myzax).]

Because he used to not have his Marmora blade, Keith has put together quite a sword collection since he arrived here. Nothing stops you from doing the same if you want other models to cover what this blade can't do.

[Ulaz waits patiently as Shiro examines the blade. No, he was not as well trained as Ulaz is, but he does have basic working knowledge so Ulaz felt that he had control of it]

I think this one covers as much as any one blade can. I'm used to working with a blade of this shape. I suppose another, smaller one, would have its benefits too.

A smaller one, huh? You could ask Sokka for another, or we can scan the market later if you want. I can lend you some money, so that shouldn't be a problem.

[He has tons of it... between the jobs, the races and his popularity, he could get Ulaz a full armory.]

Smaller ones are more subtle.

[Aka sneakier. And he can't transform this one at all. It's always a sword]

If you do not mind, I would appreciate the offer. I will repay you for it.

[Since he doesn't want outstanding debts. Now, if it stated that it doesn't need to be repaid...]

[A chuckle.] Of course.

[Damn ninjas, all of them. But it's true, sneakiness is important. The rest though... Shiro blinks. Seriously? Ulaz please.]

You do not have to repay anything. This is a gift. Because I like giving gifts to my friends in general, but also because I owe you more than I'll ever be able to buy.

[ generally, Han has been staying planetside more often than not; there's a lot to do, a lot of events to participate in and keep up with, and for all that he's a diehard spacer, now and then it's good to get a break. Especially when he knows they're gonna end up drifting again all too soon.

But now and then he's been coming back to the ships-- easier to rest here where there's not constant bustle and celebration. He drops into a seat beside Ulaz. ]

So how's the snoring situation?

[Ulaz looked up hearing someone else walking into the bar, watching as a familiar face sat down next to him]

Good evening.

[A faint quirk of his lip appeared when Han asked about snoring, since that had been his thought for why Ulaz had been leaving the Caprine]

There's no snoring that I can tell, though sometimes during the day when I'm trying to work, there's a cat that goes to sleep in my lab and snores.

[ Hey, you've gotta have some good reason to deprive yourself of Han Solo's charming company, right? ]

So more snoring than before. [ CLEARLY this is the logical measure. Nah, he's just joking around. ]

How's it going?

A bit more. At least its not in my room and she doesn't take up much space.

[She was a larger cat, but she wasn't as big as Procyon. She seemed to like his lab for some reason. Maybe because there was a lot to chew on...]

It is going well. The captain of the Blameless asked me to by the first mate so I am getting used to that position.

How has it been on the Caprine?

Oh, you know. [ Space travel is space travel. Han waves vaguely. ] Quiet til we got here, pretty much.

Who are you rooting for?

Of course. Everything stopped being quiet on this planet. Not only among the natives, but also among the crew here.

[Can you tell by the response he's not participating on a team?]

I have a lot of friends who are joining the Starstrikers. I seem to be obligated to support them.

I mean, it's a good call. They're doing best in pretty much everything that matters.
