[If you are used to seeing people waking up belligerent and demanding answers, dear viewers, you might get a little disappointed at how anti-climatic this one is.

Probably because Lyall spent about ten minutes pretending to sleep while sniffing around once he realized he wasn't where he was supposed to be. So when he 'wakes up', he simply opens his eyes and slowly sits up, looking around with mild interest.

He quickly and silently asses his state - no injuries, he's wearing clothing. He's feeling a little groggy, as if waking up from a full moon night, but if he were he'd be locked up and decidedly more naked.

Then, suddenly he blinks even though nothing noticeable happened on the screen, and stands up to walk to the camera, looking up at it.]

If this is transmitting, might someone tell me how to get in contact with Lord Falmouth? It's urgent.

[Among the people freaking out and those being extremely enthusiastic, the one thing that might make Lyall stand out even though he wishes he weren't is his attitude. He isn't walking around in a rage demanding answers or being scared of what is happening, but simply taking advantage of the food, drinks and sleep options presented to them.

Not all food options are satisfactory, though. You might find him sighing slightly as he delicately eats the pieces of raw meat he's been given.]

I hate to be a bother, but do you think they might have fish instead?

[Well, that transfer was... unsettling. Immediately upon arrival, Lyall sniffs the air quickly, and... frowns. No, this doesn't smell right either.]

I'm terribly sorry, but I am afraid I will not be able to stay among you for very long.

I know he is here, but I cannot smell him in my vicinity and that is very strange.

[Coming from a world that doesn't hide its werewolves and vampires under anonymity, Lyall doesn't immediately realize how weird that sentence could look to others.]

That was what he called himself when I first met him.

[And what Lyall still calls him in private. In public, there are appearances to maintain, and so 'my Lord' is his normal way of address.]

Would you happen to know how I can contact him directly? As I said, I normally should be able to smell his location, but I seem to be unable to right now, even though I know he is nearby.

He was on the Masriva at one point, same as you, but not anymore. You’ll be rotated off soon as well, in less than seven days, and assigned a ship. Though I suspect either you or Sandalio will transfer ships unless you’re both assigned to the same one. I would suggest you transfer given that Sandalio’s current ship is already outfitted to handle you during a full moon, and there’s good people on Sandalio’s ship.

As for contacting him directly, one moment...

You’ll be able to talk to him, but until you’re rotated off you won’t be able to have physical contact, I’m afraid.

No physical contact until transfer will be hard, especially since he can't even rely on the smell right now, but if they can at least speak they will make do until then.]

You have one too - not necessarily Engineering, but an Augment. Don’t try to remove it - anyone who has tried so far as ended up suffering very painful consequences.

By the way, what is the last date you remember? Day of the week, day of the month, month, and year? And when was the date of your last full moon change, also with this information?

My navigator and I are currently trying to figure out the full moon cycles you and Sandalio will be on here in then Fleet. Having more base data will be very helpful.

[His hand goes to briefly touch the small bump on his own neck.

His eyes widen a little at being told there are people trying to figure things out, although it makes sense. They are trapped in small metallic hull in the void of space. no one wants to be trapped in one of those with a moon-mad werewolf if they can help it.]

You have my thanks for this as well. We normally have our own amenities for such things, but given current circumstances... I am sure my Lord's first concern when he arrived was to have a safe place where he could be locked up during the full moon. And now that you tell me there is, we can share it.

[Normally, they wouldn't, but allowances have to be made and space is in short supply.]

I remember it being March 20th 1895. The full moon was on the 11th of the month so it has been nine days.

Oh? Well, let me consult my crew, but if they’re all right with it, I’m fine modifying my ship to hold you during the full moon. It’s only a day or so a month, after all. Shiro’s already done it, so the process shouldn’t be very difficult.

Great, that’ll be helpful with the calculations. We’re making some educated guesses right now based on current information and the past few months, but it’s still a bit of a guessing game right now.

[After all, they are both on the smaller side, and they are mates. There is little chance they will tear each other's throat in in the throes of the moon. Biffy would be able to smell his own smell on Lyall, after all.]

Should it become necessary, I will take you up on your generous offer. But for now, I think we will make do with whatever has already been arranged.

[It is a lot to take in, but Lyall has been alive for close to 400 years now. Taking things in stride is basically second nature by now.]

Most of what I have been told I would have taken for the fantasy of a newspaper feuilleton writer, to be very honest with you, but I have no choice but to accept it as true for the time being. The most pressing matter is to make sure my lord and I can share the same space as soon as possible.

He’s been quite pleasant actually. I enjoy his company quite a bit, and he’s an excellent dancer.

Unfortunately everything you’ve been told or read is true. Except the part about this being a tv show. Even if we are being watched at practically all times, most of us have serious doubts it’s for mere entertainment purposes.

He is very charming, of that I have absolutely no doubt. And I cannot deny his dancing abilities either. But an Alpha werewolf without a pack would have been constantly on edge. He can probably control it enough to fool most people, but that cannot have been pleasant for anyone.

[He shakes his head at that last one.]

What could be so entertaining about watching people being confined anyway? If this is indeed entertainment, whoever created it has a very depraved imagination.

Well, then yes he’s very good. As I said, in my experience, he’s been quite pleasant - if critical of my fashion.

Well that’s why I say I don’t think this is a show. I think it’s one big experiment, though what they’re attempting to study I have no idea. If nothing else they’ve got serious funding from somewhere to have the ability to pull us in from all the places they do.

[Flug glances up from where he huddled in the corner, the smell of paper, gunpowder and various machine oils wafting from his labcoat to intermingle with the underlying scent of what is unmistakably human.]

“Somehow, I don’t think they much care about our preferences.”

[Unlike the other inhabitants, Flug hasn’t even attempted to grab a tray of anything at all. He isn’t desperate enough to remove his bag for these complete strangers. It doesn’t stop him from blatantly staring at what Lyall is picking at.]

“Although the fact they are feeding us at all, means they want us alive for something.”

This technology is more advanced than anything I know, and knowing the price of things where I come from, I can deduce that this is probably costing a pretty penny.

The scent the man emits is actually strong enough to overpower that of the meat, and Lyall scrunches his nose slightly. And that choice of headgear... does not one wears proper bowler or top hats anymore in the future?]

Since they are apparently attentive enough to my specific dietary requirements, I figure it would not hurt to ask.

Well, I can certainly have a quick look around.

[He feels the tether snap into place while he's putting the final touches on his new salon. He's been meaning to announce it but it just hasn't felt like the right time. It hasn't been just right. However, all of that fades from his mind the second he feels that his Beta...his mate has arrived.

Lyall is here. Here with the fleet.

His first instinct is to sniff the air for him even though he knows that the expanses of space and metal block that. Still, he knows where Lyall is and that has him looking in that direction even as he opens up a video feed. He's too impatient to see the video Lyall has made and just taps to reply without hesitation.

He needs to see him. Now.

The second the connection is made, his smile is bright and brilliant. All the tension of late bleeds out of him as he sees that wonderful face before him.

Oh how he's missed him.]

Good evening, Lyall. How charming to see you again. I can only apologize that I cannot see you in person just yet.

[For Lyall, the tether was never reall off since he was home with the pack - and Biffy - when this whole mess happened. He feels like full moon came out of cycle a little, but for now that's it. Oh, and of course there's this weird thing where he knows Biffy is nearby but he can't smell him. That's quite annoying.

Hearing Biffy's voice, seeing his face, seeing his smile... Lyall does do a quick visual check since he can't smell from where he is. Biffy looks fine. He can't have been doing great if he was on his own, but he's holding it together at least.

Lyall gives a small nod. He's guarded for now, a little too aware that they are being watched.]

My Lord. I hope you have not been too unwell in my absence.

[Never before have those two words sounded so good. My Lord. He smiles just a little more as he lets those words settle on him like a warm blanket. Soft and comforting and familiar.]

I have managed. Though I confess I will do better once you are at my side. We will have to ensure you are brought to this ship after the shuffle.

[Because this right now? Not at all what he wants. He wants that scent of him instead. That feel of him. That knowledge that they will share a room again.]

[Oh, Flug was well-aquainted with those who represented proper head-wear. He himself just had rather different tastes. As did this man, apparently.]

“So they know enough of our..." [Another glance to confirm; yes, that certainly is some VERY raw meat.] "d-differing biology to keep us alive but nothing about us as people.”

[That was… worrisome. Flug considers that for a moment, glancing between every companion on board.]

“I think the bigger question would be who to ask. As far as I've seen, our captors are not aboard this vessel.”

[Extremely raw, Flug. It can't get any rawer, really.

Lyall gives a sniff around, but it's mostly perfunctory. In his time here, the only people he's been able to smell are the ones he's met that are on board with him, and he's seen all of them at one point.]

The only beings alive that I have been able to smell our ourselves. No one else.

[Another smile. Good.]

I will also feel better at your side, my Lord.

I have been told the first assignment is random, but I can ask for a transfer once that is done.

It will be but it will be easy enough for you to transfer to the ship I am assigned to after that.

[There's a pause and then...]

I've already created space for you in the room I am in.
