Don't Dead, Open Inside || Action

Who: Carl Grimes, a bunch of zombies, and you
Broadcast: kinda?
Action: Waystation
When: Right now

(( ooc: This is a blanket content warning for blood/gore/death. So! There are zombies ahead and you’ve found yourself on the waystation! You have two options: evacuate, or fight them off. Things of note to remember: Being bitten or scratched are the easiest ways for infection. We don’t suggest being eaten. Magic will be hit or miss depending on player preference/discretion. Characters who become zombies will be treated as in-character deaths. Standard rules apply! The event will last a total of 24 hours. Have fun, and enjoy all the undead things. If there are any questions or anything at all, feel free to pm this journal or hit me up at [plurk.com profile] skorozima. ))

[ The Fleet has been floating along its predetermined path for the past few days, getting further and further away from the Yadrolla System and toward unknown territory. Along the way, those oh-so convenient waystations continue to pop up at their usual intervals. Identical in every way to every other, boring waystation. Neat, right? There are even some of those familiar orange-skinned aliens and some human travelers milling about and generally minding their own business. It’s a good place to stretch your legs, get sodas of questionable flavor, and take those nifty new pets for a walk!

Interrupting the general peace of the waystation, a shrill siren starts, and a robotic voice comes over the intercom as well as all communication devices on the station and surrounding spacecraft, repeating a monotone message. ]

ATTENTION. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. LOCKDOWN IMMINENT. ATTENTION. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY. CALMLY EVACUATE USING THE NEAREST EXIT. LOCKDOWN IMMINENT..

[ Soon, it becomes apparent to those on the waystation what the emergency is. A gaggle? A murder??? Just.. a lot of undead. They’re not in any particular hurry, shambling and stumbling along.. until they spot what looks like some good eats. That seems to get them excited, arms stretching forward, teeth gnashing, and more growling than any sort of verbal mishmash meant to be words. THEY’RE NOT A WORDY PEOPLE, OKAY?

For those looking to escape, it’s quite easy to outrun them unless you’re not paying attention to your surroundings. Corners can be tough! Just don’t get bit or scratched and all is well, except for their incessant attempts at making you a snack. For those who haven’t come across them before, or have run into some variation of them in another world, they’re resilient up to the point of losing their head or the brain being destroyed. Limbs being broken or missing don’t seem to slow them down, just send them a little off-balance.

All they know is attack and eat.

For those of the fleet still on their ships, they gravitate around the waystation, seemingly not wanting to go anywhere. There is a short window of time from the emergency alert to the entire waystation going on lockdown. Those wishing to help evacuate can do so- but they have to be quick!

Once the lockdown is in place, communication ceases with the waystation. All the rest of the fleet can do is sit and wait, and hope for the best. The doors will re-open twenty-four hours later, once it’s clear the situation is handled and they can regroup, count their losses, and wait once again for the perished to rejoin their ranks. ]

Ah. [Pavel isn't a chemist, but he's pretty sure that's not how it works. He glances down the hall one more time before following her into the room.] For all of the technological advances in my world and time, we have nothing like that.

Of course, we also don't have diseases like the one here, so I'm disinclined to complain about the limitations of my universe.

It seems pretty unique so far, our science. We have some things that others do, though it's very... clunky in comparison. We're still in a seafaring age. [It's nice to talk about non-zombie related things, and she quietly closes the door behind them.] Weather science is not meant to be used as a weapon, though.

[She's kind of unique in that regard.]

[The zombie-unrelated topic certainly is a welcome one as he beings searching the room for something that might be helpful--doing what, who even knows. There probably isn't a button around that says "push to end zombie invasion."]

That could be said of most sciences, I think. [Oh wait, that's not a huge improvement depressing-wise.] What are the intended applications of weather science? ...To alter weather, obviously, but in what way and on what scale?
mikangirl: (get out of the bathroom jack)

[personal profile] mikangirl 2018-07-16 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[...sadly most science in her world is employed by the government and thus deliberately weaponised. Weather science is something not currently in their reach, which she's happy about. The people that practice it don't need that on their plate.]

Small, localised, and temporary weather patterns to help out locations in crisis. The problem with altering weather in a more permanent way is it often interferes with the stable weather systems of other areas around it. You can cause a lot of damage that way. [Her staff crackles to life again as she speaks; Nami is crouched by the door as Pavel searches, seeing if it locks.] So instead, the old men might visit a town stricken by drought and produce for them a highly local rainstorm to fill their reservoirs and give their crops much needed water-- or go into an area that's been storming for days and dissipate it before damage becomes too disastrous.

[Storms on the Grand Line can literally wipe an island off the map. Luckily, most of them occur out at sea.]

Found anything?

Those are good applications. It seems like a useful thing to have, provided it stays with people who mean well. [Although technology has a way of making it into the wrong hands. Maybe it's different in Nami's world.]

It sounds a little better than what is common when I am from. Manipulating the weather of an entire planet. Responsibly, of course, and with great oversight, and there are never droughts or floods... but sometimes there is too much scientific intervention, maybe.

[As he talks, he begins inspecting an extremely primitive computer terminal that happens to be a part of the room.] Eh. I could close and lock the door, given a moment.

[This particular technology stays out of reach of the government by design, definitely. Nami is an exception to their rule.

She works out it's a computerised lock (of course it is, stupid place) at about the point Pavel mentions it, and she stands up, though she still keeps one hand braced on the door. Paranoia.]

As long as you can unlock it again afterwards. [It's a dry attempt at a joke.]

[personal profile] candothat 2018-07-28 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Thank god it's computerized. Pavel's only made it this far because he can make the doors go, even during the lockdown.]

No guarantees. [A pause.] ...That was a joke, I promise. Do you see anything yet?
mikangirl: (I don't like your tone)

[personal profile] mikangirl 2018-07-28 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
No. [...that just means her imagination is going into overdrive, though. Can she hear something? Is something silently ninja-ing up through the hallways?]

...let me just set us up an alarm. Be right back.

[She's gonna slip out that door. Don't panic, she's back in about twelve seconds.]
candothat: ((●__●))

[personal profile] candothat 2018-07-28 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Those are twelve extremely tense seconds in which Pavel asks himself just how long he should wait until he goes out after her. She returns just before he determines that it's been long enough.

He shuts the door behind her. It closes with a fairly solid whump.]

Alarm?
mikangirl: (on the horizon)

[personal profile] mikangirl 2018-07-28 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
[She's jittery enough even though nothing happened in that time.]

Think of it like an electrical barrier. It'll make a bunch of noise if anything comes this way.

[It'll also fry the first things that touch it, but these infected rarely travel on their own.]
candothat: (( 〃..))

[personal profile] candothat 2018-07-28 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods.] Yes, good.

Although I hope that nothing comes this way. The door is strong, but if there are enough of them...

[No elaboration needed, right?]
