The ship lounge also upgraded to a flimsy drink cart complete with drinking glasses, containers, and a replenishing ice bucket. There's also a dart board with a set of plastic darts. Does anyone on this crew has good aim? Mystery!]

[The new additions don't go unnoticed, even if Makie has no idea what they are. Seriously, uh... the poker chips she can just about understand, but one can find her

- Eyeing off the new basketball hoop in the cargo hold;

- Holding those plastic darts in hand and staring at the dartboard. Look, darts are darts and she gets that, but this is a game she doesn't know the rules to.


Barring either of those options, as always she's a quiet ghost about the ship, and you're most likely to run into her in either the kitchen or playing her shamisen in the ship lounge.

Or, on one memorable day, making sure her blades are super clean and polished after she's used them to behead a few zombies. She's untouched but paler than usual, and she cleaned them before she brought them back to the ship. But she's paranoid and wants nothing left behind, just in case.]

How long have you been here?

It's hard to say. I know I first arrived here about... two and a half years ago, by the calendar. But I left for some time in between.

A long time, anyway. I don't mind. [Her gaze turns measuring.] You're used to such whisking?

I was recruited to be a time traveller a few years back.

What's the purpose of being such a traveller?

To protect reality from people who want to alter it.

Even if they try to alter it for the better? Though I suppose that wouldn't happen often.

[Not a lot of people are that selfless. The idea that there's enough people to try such a thing that time travelling protection is even needed is kind of disturbing. But she's been around in these places with multiple timelines that it's a concept she grasps surprisingly easily.]

It's not possible. Some events are fixed in time, and even when you try to fix something, you screw something else up.

I suppose that would be true. So you would have to deal with the well-meaning as well as the greedy...?
