[River, of course, has managed to get in and can be found in the hold, sitting on the floor and thinking very hard.]

It's a bird, but the foul flies better. The hunters got to this one, filled it up with birdshot.

[When he hears a voice he doesn't recognize, he goes to investigate- stepping into the cargo hold]

Uh...are you part of the crew?

[diomedea]

No, the name's all wrong. You know, it's a dip and a divot.

[She tilts her head at him.]

What kind of bird are you? Not a duck.

[wilder]

[He sighs] Yeah, I know. It's a stupid name. I didn't pick it.

[He...tilts his head back]

What kind of bird am I...?

[diomedea]

Wings.

[She says it like that's all the explanation she needs, but she points at him.]

[wilder]

[A PAUSE. And he does a quick glance with his eyes to see if his wings are out. Whew, okay - they aren't]

Huh? What do you mean wings?

I mean, I guess I am the pilot...

[diomedea]

[She makes a little face. Why did people have trouble understanding her? The words seemed to fall from her lips, but they were clumsy, like tripping.]

Kept inside, like fetters for feathers. Not out.

[wilder]

Wait- you can...tell that?

[diomedea]

I can see. You keep them close. Can't let them see, ship the feathers off. Make some use of the damned things.

[Her tone is even, but she looks him over.]

[ Elize spends most of her time in her room while on board, but it gets far too sad and lonely holing herself up... so she leaves her room for once. When she hears an unfamiliar voice, she wanders into the hold and peeks timidly at the stranger.

She hasn't met everyone on the ship yet, uncertain if this stranger is a crew member or not. ]

Um... hi...

[She looks over at her, and then nods, smiling softly.]

It's not a duck. It's a battle. But you don't know that. Imperative.

Huh? Umm... [ Not really understanding what she's talking about. And imperative is a big word to Elize.

Seeing the smile though, she feels less nervous. So she steps a little closer. ]

Are you one of my crewmates? [ New friend?! ] My name's Elize.

[diomedea]

No, I came to visit.

[She looks her over.]

You don't have a doll.

[ Before she can ask if she has a friend on board, she freezes up. She clasps her hands close to her chest, where she would normally carry Teepo. ]

You know about Teepo?

[diomedea]

[She looks over at her, still sitting on the floor.]

You know about Teepo. I know about Teepo.

[princessia]

[ She sits down on the floor next to her, placing her hands on her lap and staring hopefully. ]

Do you... know where he is?

[diomedea]

Far, far away. Can find him again, but the looking is the trick. Roll credits, stalling out.

[Jennifer heard the unfamiliar voice as she was on her way to the medbay and decided to investigate, finding a young girl apparently talking to herself. Jennifer hesitated a moment, not wanting to disturb her, before mentally shrugging and sitting down next to the girl.]

Yeah... we got attacked last week.

[diomedea]

[River smiles, and she claps her hands.]

Hello! Do you like strawberries too, or just the engines? You remind her.

[forsometimenow]

[Jennifer blinked slowly at that, wondering what the girl's train of thought could possibly be.]

I do like strawberries, but... what do I remind you of?

[diomedea]

One of the other planets. She was a nice girl. River liked her, there were jacks on the floor and she was so kind and so patient.

[River smiles a bit. Kaylee takes a spot in her heart kind of like Simon]

I loved her. She caught me in her orbit.

[Jennifer nodded, thinking she could follow along. Well enough, anyway.]

So I remind you of a friend? Someone you like back home? That's nice... but how could you tell that? Do we look alike...?

[River touches the side of her nose and laughs softly.]

[Jennifer shakes her head, but she's still smiling.]

I think you've lost me there, sweetie.

[She steps forward and takes Jennifer's hand in hers.]
