Science unlocks the truth...
Who: Moira and YOU
Broadcast: Yes
Action: Planetside and Iskaulit
When: Throughout the month of July
Broadcast
[Ever the scientist, Moira has felt the need to be on top of things here. That means that when she finds out there could be some unusual qualities to the mist, she decides it's time to take matters into her own hands. However, equipment is pathetic at best here and she is aware that she, unfortunately, will require assistance in this matter. And so, it is time to make a call.]
It has come to my attention that the mist of this system has some rather unusual qualities to it. I believe it would be to our benefit to study it. By finding the components in the samples we could potentially make advances to our medicines in the future.
[Now the less than desirable part.]
Presently the Heron is not equipped with a proper research lab. If there is a ship that is, that would be preferable. It would also be wise for several with the Lab Support augment to work as one to uncover the secrets behind this mist.
[A pause and then.]
I will fetch the samples myself. If you are willing to take the risk then you may join. I will be within reach should you have a desire to lend your...skills.
[She ends the transmission there. There's work to do.]
Planetside - Mists
[Whether someone has joined her or not, Moira has obtained a mask so she can make her way into the mists. With her is a pack with supplies to gather some samples of this mist. It's unfortunate that she has to use something so prehistoric as far as science goes but she intends to make it work. There isn't going to be a lot of progress without these samples, after all. That much is for certain.
So here she is, focusing entirely on the mist itself. Yes she's heard something about there being something for her to find in the mists but she hasn't ever been the sentimental sort. Rather her mind is intrigued by what properties this mist could hold. What mysteries they might unlock by finding out what chemicals exist within it.
Have you joined her in this? Or stumbled upon her? She certainly stands out with that height of hers.]
Iskaulit
[Now, she is here to meet with this other scientist. Flug is his name. The odd sort who somehow seems to feel that wearing a paper bag over his head is somehow a necessity. However, she's willing to overlook that in favor of picking his mind and getting him to work with her. These augments are proving to be inconvenient at times, not providing her with the knowledge she requires to do everything she needs to despite the fact that her Biotic Grasp was her own creation.
Still, she feels the need to explore it. There is plenty interesting here to supply the arts, something that pleases her. As much of a scientist as she is, she has a great appreciation for them and the beauty that they fill the world with. There is something wonderful about them and to see they have places to be taken care of here means they aren't likely to die anytime soon.
In the end, she's most likely to be found wandering the museum or the various studios. Just to look really. They're a pleasant way to pass the time.]
[ooc: A note about the mist samples/study! The mods have said we can do some neat stuff if we have some lab support people work together! It'll take a lot of time to break it all do and make something with the samples but it could be good for future systems and the like! Just food for thought if you'd like your lab people to get involved in something different!]

How do you plan on studying it?

We will first need to break it down. This will show us the side effects that it causes and we can also learn what components make it. From there we can begin running tests to see what can be done with it. Much like a poison can be used to make an antidote.
[A pity she has a feeling that most won't be willing to be subjects for these tests.]
Given time we should be produce promising results.

[ It would have been easy with a Soul Forge. But a lot of Asgard's technology perished with them. Loki's educated enough to know how they work, but not enough to build it from scratch. ]

[ Even though, honestly, Escha might be the... pink-est.. researcher Moira's probably ever seen. ]
The Wonderduck doesn't have the best lab either, but I'm doing what I can. I'm new here, but I think I'm allowed to get upgrades for the lab to improve research things? That would be great. And, um, honestly, necessary.
[ Seriously these labs are the pits. ]

Have you seen Mercy's latest skin...Moira hardly notices the pink. It's certainly less odd than someone who wears a paper bag over his head. Namely...Flug.]More samples will be helpful. It will be difficult to tell how many we need to properly analyze what this mist is made of.
[Particularly with such pathetic technology. She's forever salted about that.]
So far it would seem that we still require an upgraded lab designed for research. Even then I have a feeling it won't give us everything we require.
[But it will still be better than this disaster.]
no subject
Fair tbh]Yeah... I think you're right. [ She sighs. ]
... Mmm, do you think maybe we could combine our own equipment with some things from this planet - if there's anything better to be found? I mean, even if we have to get our own materials, maybe we could make some better equipment, glassware... you know, everything! And we could put it all in one room on the Iskaulit! I don't know how much time we have here, so it might not really be a help right away...
no subject
[Why is beyond her. It seems like that only slows down what they can do here.]
It would allow us to upgrade it more easily though.
[Yes. She likes this idea.]

[ For a brief second, she looks a little annoyed. She knows that it's because of the augments that she can't do the same sort of "engineering" and building that she's capable of back home, and that stings, honestly. But she's back to business and cordial smiles soon enough. ]
I'm sure we can find people who want to help. In the meanwhile, maybe let's pick a room on the ship and start trying to fill it up!

[Excuse him for being suspicious but given that this is said to affect humans this sounds, well, remarkably like human testing to him.]

Let me rephrase that. The effects being only observable on humans and living organisms that we know of, who are you planning to test this on?

[He's... probably got one hell of a learning curve to deal with, augment or not, but he can do the "support" end of lab support real well, at least.]
The Huntress even has an upgraded lab, if you haven't found one yet. I don't think the captain'd mind someone from off-ship putting it to use.
no subject
I have not. There are several of us now with the lab augment. With the lab on your ship, we should be able to start this project.
[Alright so maybe she will not let the newness thing slide entirely. But she does decide to be nice about it. In her own fashion.]
Since you are new towards research, I could teach you if you would like to be my assistant. It will keep your hands from being idle as we all work on this.
no subject
[The knowledge the augment gave him has pretty much been the only thing that saved the rest of the ship from being accidentally gassed or exploded every other week at his hands, really. He is beyond fine with taking baby steps when someone offers.]
I'll run the lab offer by Mikleo just to be safe, let you know if there's any trouble. But if anything, he might just end up wanting to join in.
no subject
[And it does allow her to read the sort of potential he has for herself. The eagerness is mildly endearing anyway. At least if she were that sort of woman. Still, a bright young brain should be nurtured when it is so interested in science.]
For now please ask this Mikleo. We will need to start this project quickly if we want to start obtaining results of any kind.
no subject
[Which everyone probably could have done with a little less of, all things considered. But still. Neat.]
Captain says we're good to share the lab, but on the condition nobody just swings by unannounced. Just try to come up with a schedule so we can make sure everything's cleared out and ready for you whenever you plan on dropping by- better for everyone if nobody's gotta stop their own work or start arguing over lab usage.
[And while that's not the actual reason, it isn't untrue...which is really the only reason Pete here's able to say it so convincingly. He's a terrible liar, except when that lie's equal part fact and fiction, and in place to keep someone safe.]

[Ishkaulit] Meeting in the gallery] o/
“O-oh, M-Miss Moira.”
[Quickly he turns to greet her properly, hand already extended in practiced greeting.]
“Happy you could make it. I trust you’ve brought your research?”
[What little there may be, if any, starting from scratch with an endeavor such as this.]
\o
What I can recreate of it in diagram. It would seem that by not having the engineering augment there is only so much that I can manage.
[All the same, she does bring up her data on the design of her Biotic Grasp. Two gauntlets attached to a chamber held on the back. Tubing connects all of it. It's clear that most of how it works is something that has to be figured out on his end because her augment won't let her figure out the numbers. Damn thing.]
It is a device of my own creation. There are some minor notes about the proper charge and so on. However, it would seem that my augment prevents me from properly building it. I can only recreate the mist that will fill it.
[Her lips curl in irritation at the thought.]
It will take time to gather these supplies but I believe you could be capable of building this for me. In exchange, I will tell you what it can do with the mist I will fill it with.
[Given the nature of her work, she believes it is fair trade. However, she's also willing to work this out with him to have a more agreeable arrangement. After all, those who aren't so freely tied down with morals are often the ones most eager to support her research in her experience.]
no subject
[Flug pours over the data with rapt attention, the pin-prick dots of his barely visible pupils beneath the goggles darting about with interest, as he attempts to piece the rest of it all together in his mind.]
"Some of the alloys and materials may differ, purely from a resource standpoint, you understand, but we won't sacrifice durability or efficiency in doing so."
[It's actually a relief she is willing to negotiate price. Normally his work never comes so cheap; but the chance to have someone competent to work alongside a common goal with makes this worth it. What good would money really be here any way?]
"Technically, it would be beneficial for me to know that regardless."
[He can't very well put something together without knowing the intended result! That's how mistakes are made.]
"But I'm willing to accept that. Perhaps a sample of this mist, once you're able to replicate it fully? If you'd be so inclined?"
no subject
[With her right hand, she points to parts of it. It's clear that the hand looks almost...dead. It's purple and the nails are exceedingly long. Not to mention the metallic looking veins going along it. She, of course, doesn't seem to mind about that as she simply explains her work.]
This device allows one to heal with one hand and to drain life with the other. By wearing this, I can release the mist so my left hand can heal those nearby or even those further away by releasing a ball that will only heal my allies. With my right I do the opposite and drain life from those I mark as my enemies. Of course, it heals me when I do so and will rebuild the mist inside. After a time, the charge will build up enough that I can do both simultaneously.
[She taps one of her nails against the diagram before bringing her hands behind her back.]
If you wish a sample of this mist then I will provide it. I feel that our working together can be beneficial to us both so I see no reason to not give you some.
[Okay that and she does know he can't do anything with it without building another device and that he can't easily research it without a lab augment. It's a foolish system at times but now and then it can be useful.]
no subject
[The scientist affirms. Moira won't find any moral hangups here; though she is wise to worry of her research being stolen, not that Flug has any need for that. He simply appreciates when people aren't trusting idiots. Truly even if he did deign to replicate it entirely, there is a fair chance only Moira herself could use it. Even then, his own uses of it would hardly reach her own Universe.
While his eye does certainly linger on that malformed limb, he has enough sense to keep to himself. He IS a man with a bag on his head.]
"Remarkable. At a first glance one might think of it as some form of limb enhancer, but I rarely see such attributes combined in such a fashion."
[He nods to himself, seemingly coming to a decision.]
"While I can lay out the groundwork of the system in full, I'd recommend testing each feature seperately at a time."
[Even a partially finished weapon is better than one that performs none of the desired tasks. It's a trick Flug has learned well from weeks of rushed deadlines.]
"We can add each function as soon as we complete the one before it, then adjust the parameters for them to operate in tandem. I believe I heard you mention the region we have just entered also utilizes mist in its technologies. Were you planning to utilize that research for this?"
