[ The last thing that he really knew, that he understood and processed, was that his life was over. After that, he couldn't call the details to mind, but the certainty was there. And then, something else happened. He was in a completely different place, somewhere clean, utilitarian but gleaming... and there were stars.

Truth be told, he hadn't gotten past the disbelief, gradually coming to terms with both space and his own continued existence, when suddenly everything changed around him again. Only this time, there was a little tune to greet him, confetti and dessert?

So don't mind him, far more disoriented than he's ever been, stumbling and barely keeping himself upright, staring around the bridge in building bewilderment - and it's rather immediately clear that's what it is, the stations, the windows... space again. However that happened. ]

Um... hello?

[ Eloquent. He'll get to words. Eventually. ]

I, uh... I guess this is basically like the internet? It's been a while but: Hi. My name is Glenn, and I just got here.

[ He draws a deep breath - while he's doing a bit better, he's still unsteady. ]

To space.

[ He's hoping for what he figures is the impossible... he can't bring himself to put it into words. So he leaves it there, with the dubious tone of someone who still isn't sure anything is real. Himself included. ]

[ The Bull laughs at that and shakes his head. ]

No hard feelings. Not everybody's cut out for gambling. I'm also pretty sure my world's the only one with Qunari. Not many people have seen something like me.

[ That nervous smile fades gradually, and he gives a small nod as he listens. ]

You must get that kind of response here a lot, then. Sorry.

So, what's your world like? I didn't expect to ever get to ask anyone that.

[ He nods. ]

Yeah, but I'm used to it, anyway. Not a lot of Qunari down south back home, either. People have heard of us, but not a lot of have actually seen one, and because we don't look like humans, humans think we're big and dumb. [ And he shrugs at that. ] That suits me just fine.

[ He laughs. ] Never thought I'd ever get asked that, and I didn't ever think it was weird, either. There's magic, and you know, elves and dwarves, and us. There's a lot of politics, too, and religion. Some ancient asshole ripped a hole in the sky, now it's crapping out demons. Oh and dragons.

[ And after a pause. ]

[ Once again, his expression entirely gives him away - that world sounds... impressive. It also sounds horrifying to actually live in, of course. And... like something that might have been in a game he'd have played once upon a time, oddly enough. Go figure.

Oh, and then the question's on him. That's fair. ]

Wow. That's... a lot. We have religion, but nothing has ever been that... tangible? No demons falling out of holes in the sky, anyway.

[ He takes a deep breath there, deciding where to go fro there. ]

But things have been... rough, for a couple of years. The people are all human, and they were all in different societies, different nations and cultures. There was a lot of politics, international trade and relations, which... [ He sort of grimaces as he furrows his brow here, ] ...not always great? But, uh... then there was an outbreak, nobody's sure exactly what it was, but a lot of people didn't make it, and everything that had been sort of crumbled.

The people who are left are mostly in small groups, communities, sometimes on their own... a lot of them are trying to rebuild, but they don't all agree about how to do that, and resources are hard to come by, so. There can be a lot of conflict.

[ Yeah, it's time for him to back off of that talk, so he goes for a quick quip to pull back. ]

No dragons, though?

Sounds a lot like Carl's place.

[ He's never heard of Glenn, but maybe Carl's not the only one from a place where the dead started getting back up and snacking on the living. ]

Which is shitty, if it is. Dead people shambling around, sinking their teeth into people, making more dead people. And no dragons. [ He shakes his head, looking like that final point might be one of the more disappointing in the whole affair. ]

[ Hang on there a second... ]

Wait, do you mean Carl Grimes?

[ Dragon topic to be revisited. ]

[ This is the Iron Bull you're talking to, Glenn. Trust me when I say the dragon topic will always be revisited. ]

Yeah, that's him. So it is the same place. I guess that's...kinda less shitty. [ He rolls his shoulder in a shrug. ] Not for you I guess, except that there's not huge outbreak here, right?

That is an improvement.

[ He's sort of relieved, actually, that he doesn't have to be the one to explain the whole undead thing. ]

It doesn't seem that bad here, really. It's... unexpected, being here, for a lot of reasons, but... I've been through worse. And having people here, from home, counts for a lot.

[ There was a small...one, but no body needs to talk about it. Bull certainly doesn't want to. ]

Yeah, it does, and Carl's a good kid. So, you know Carol too, right? And Daryl?

[ He gives a little smile and nods. ]

He's a great kid. And, yeah - they're family, really - and Maggie, if you know her? She's my wife.

I talked to her once, yeah. Classy lady. [ he nods. ] Nice catch.

[ That gets a small laugh. ] Thanks -- yeah, I still don't know how I got that lucky.

Or lucky enough that they're here. Does that happen a lot? You have people from your home here?

[Know how we get that lucky, he means.]

Uh, yeah. A few, but...they're from different versions of my world? It's pretty damned weird.

So, like alternate realities on top of alternate universes?

[ He gives a little shake of his head. ]

That's... kind a lot, huh?

Yep.

[And the Bull doesn't try to hide how daunting that is.]

I try not to think about it most of the time.

Fair. I... kinda get the feeling that's a good approach to a lot of what's going on here.

[He nods at that.]

Yep, and if you can't get it out of your head, there are plenty of people around to hit you with a stick until you can think straight.

[ Of all... the things... to say...

He freezes there, pales perhaps a shade, and swallows in his suddenly-dry throat. For an excruciatingly long moment, he's just... quiet. He tenses and blanks entirely, ceasing to process or emote.

Then, finally, there's a forced, nervous sound a bit too strained to be a laugh. ]

Yeah... okay.

[ The words are barely formed and, truthfully, don't really mean anything right now - they're just idle sounds. He's vaguely aware he was having a conversation, after all, and you make sounds when you're doing that, ]

[The Bull watches that video feed intently. He's seen that sort of reaction before. Hell, he's had that sort of reaction before, years ago...maybe sometimes stil a little, but it's better now.

Asala-Taar. The soul sickness. It's what happened when shit hit your mind so hard you couldn't see, hear, or think anything else.]

Hey, Glenn. It's just conditioning, buddy, and you don't have to do it.

[He tone wasn't condescending or anything. It was more...commiserating if nothing else.] And if you ever wanna talk about whatever memories that just stirred up, you know how to find me.

[ Okay. He's okay.

And then he manages a smile, weak but at least... coming back to himself. ]

Maybe someday I will.

[ Even if he doubts he will, he's still sincere. It's just... a little too fresh, to put it mildly. He pauses a moment, taking a breath to steady himself a bit more. ]

I appreciate it, though. I mean... everything, really. I didn't really know what to expect on here.

[He nods.]

You've got time, Glenn. Don't rush it.

Anyway, you should probably go check up on your wife, right? I bet she was missing you.

Yeah... yeah, I know she was. She's on her way over.

[ Not that there isn't a hint of disbelief still, that he's about to see her. ]

Well. I'll catch you around, I guess.

Yeah, I think we're stuck together, Glenn. Maybe we'll get that beer sometime.

[He grins, though.]
