[The first thing she did once she got a good handle on exactly what was going on - which, for the record, she did not need help with, she is a perfectly capable and independent adult vampire, it's fine - was dive into the engine room and begin to pull things apart. There is knowledge brimming out of her mind that she has no origin for or control over, it's chaotic and it's mad and she loves it.]

[She broadcasts from the engine room, looking at a wrench admiringly. She's messy and a little greasy, but it's a suave sort of messy and greasy. Gods only know how she manages this.]

I'd be interested to know how many people are actually upset about this. Being here. Because I know all sorts of things now that I never could have known before, and that's worth something, I think.

Also, have there ever been any riots here? I think I could do with a good riot sometime soon.

The one time arriving fashionably late has failed me.

Always a tragedy when that happens. Though you do seem to have dressed for the occasion! That's something, surely.

I always dress for the occasion, even if I don't know what the occasion is, or if an occasion is going to be happening at all.

Although I wonder if there's a uniform for this kind of thing. It's . . . messy. [Which she says with some relish.]

Have you had a look in your locker? They should have given you a sort of ...suit thing.

I like my suit thing. [Uniform, Mal.] It doesn't do to go walking about without your colors on. [Leftover from Jackrum, she will realize after she's said it, but doesn't bother correcting herself. Sometimes the traditions are right, after all.]

Too true. Or so I'm told!

[ He's never worn a uniform a day in his life. ]

The suit thing might save your suit thing, is what I mean to say. In case of ...I don't know, unfortunate spills or explosions or whatever risks one runs around engine parts.

[ Spoiler: he did not get that augment. ]

[Her eyes light up at the mention of both spills and explosions. But she gets the point, finally.]

Well, it's very kind of you to consider the well-being of my suit thing. I'd hate to get dirty.

Now that you bring it up you do have an air of fastidiousness about you. I wasn't going to mention it. Seems impolite to slap on a stranger.

My name's Hawke, by the by. Surely after such choice words have been exchanged - [ yes, he is talking about 'fastidious' ] - we can consider ourselves on a--well, family name basis, in my case.

Hawke like the bird? I like it. Short, sharp, to the point.

You don't get my family name. Or my middle names. There are too many of them to count. You can have my first one, if you like. Maladict. Mal if you want to be short and snappy. Which I'm sure you do.

[Neither of these are actually her first name, but that's entirely beside the point.]

It does cut down on all those pesky syllables. Truly, who has the time?

Two months. Give or take the odd spate of time where no one knows what's going on because everything's on fire. If that's a prelude to questions with real answers I can tell you right now you're barking up the wrong tree. I like to keep mine nondescriptive and slippery. Does mean I'm almost never wrong, though!

A very sound policy, I fully endorse it. Feel free to anticipate my questions and give me appropriately slippery answers, then.

Very good. You get a passing grade for slipperiness. Not exceptional, of course, one can always do better.
