[The first thing she did once she got a good handle on exactly what was going on - which, for the record, she did not need help with, she is a perfectly capable and independent adult vampire, it's fine - was dive into the engine room and begin to pull things apart. There is knowledge brimming out of her mind that she has no origin for or control over, it's chaotic and it's mad and she loves it.]

[She broadcasts from the engine room, looking at a wrench admiringly. She's messy and a little greasy, but it's a suave sort of messy and greasy. Gods only know how she manages this.]

I'd be interested to know how many people are actually upset about this. Being here. Because I know all sorts of things now that I never could have known before, and that's worth something, I think.

Also, have there ever been any riots here? I think I could do with a good riot sometime soon.

No, no. I'm all fucked up-- [he waves his hand dismissively; that's not the phrase he should have used, but rolls out of him naturally.] Been here about five months, was sent to a few more places before this. Been away from home about three years.

[It's not a question, and she doesn't seem particularly odd; more anachronously solemn.]

You're in a very good mood about it.

Not really. I've just got one of those faces.

[he smiles. cheery, one might say.]

Why is "Mal" like "bad"?

[he also comes from a world where Latin is technically not a thing.]

[Yes, very cheery. One eyebrow raises, the corner of her mouth quirking up with it.]

Because someone decided it would be clever to name me after a foreign word that means bad. It wasn't my idea, trust me.

Oh, that's rude. Have you considered picking a new name?

No, I'm sort of used to this one. And it's better than all of my other names.

[She has about twenty.]

Ah, well. If that's really the best you've been given, maybe it's better to quit while you're ahead, right?

Well, Mal. The concept of the place is terrible, but the people are interesting. I think you'll do pretty well around here.

I've noticed that. And at least they've given me something to do.

[Although let's be real, she's going to get into more trouble as soon as possible.]

Anything else I should be looking for? [In the engine, maybe, or in general.]

[he appears thoughtful, resting his face on his hand... what could he possibly tell her to look out for?]

Well, I suppose the augment buried at the base of your skull has been known to malfunction, so that's a treat. If you find yourself suddenly acting not yourself, you can blame that.

Noted. Any other way they malfunction? Should I be on the lookout for my head exploding?

[Because she is pretty sure nothing is out of the realm of possibility here.]

[oh, he laughs a little. he probably shouldn't, but that doesn't stop him.]

No reported head explosions. Yet. Any changes to memory or physiology are theoretical.

[It's funny! Admittedly also gross and scary, but. Funny nevertheless. She grins.]

So essentially anything could happen, is what you're telling me.
