[When the video kicks in, Maggie can be found with the Gym in the background. Her device is perched in her lap as she addresses the network.]

I've been here a while, but I don't think I've seen anyone offering lessons for a long time. I'm not too bad with throwing knives or hand to hand if anyone wants to learn or wants someone to practice with. It's always good to keep sharp, right?

[Maggie looks like she's ready to go already, her hair pulled back and gloves on her hands.]

Anyway - for anyone who doesn't know me, I'm Maggie. I'll be in the Gym if someone's lookin' to blow off some steam.

Closed to Glenn - on the SS Goldstone

[With the ships drifting, there really isn't much of a chance to take a shuttle out and find somewhere to explore. This leaves things up to improvisation as Maggie takes over a small corner of their spacious Cargo Bay, setting out a blanket and a makeshift picnic basket. It wasn't much but it was something.

Maggie had a plate of food in her lap and a fork in her hand. It wasn't the fun world exploration she would have liked, but it was something. The last planet hadn't exactly been that spectacular, but hopefully the next would make up for it. No matter the location, she was just glad to see it with her husband. Speaking of, she can't help but look up at him, a small smile on her face as she enjoys her food.]

I know a lot of this is rations and synthetic stuff, but it's not too bad, right?

Gym - open

[It was always good to blow off some steam once in a while and Maggie is no exception. She can be found practicing getting in a few punches and kicks on some training equipment, her focus completely on beating on the piece of equipment in front of her that jostled every so often from the force of her blows. Anyone looking to train with her was welcome, of course.

There wasn't too much to do during drifting like this, but this was enough to take up her time. Keeping busy, keeping fit, was important. Once she was done wailing on the equipment, Maggie would be stopping for a stretch, seated on a mat with her legs stretched in front of her as she did so.]

[Yes, that is a giant horned man on the video feed, and yes he's smiling amicably.]

Maggie, huh? Glenn's Maggie?

[Her first reaction is to stare for a minute because whoa this guy has horns and immediately following that momentary stare is a nervous laugh and a nod.]

Yeah. Glenn is my husband.

[See this is what happens when she stays off the network. She doesn't meet people like this.]

And you are?

The Iron Bull.

[He actually inclines his head slightly, a nod a greeting.]

Nice to meet you. I know some of your people. Carol's security here on my ship, and Carl's a good kid. Daryl's got a good head on his shoulders. Don't know much a bout Glenn, but we only met once. They're good people, though.

[Hux was already in the gym practicing some of the styles that Ulaz was teaching him and keeping up with what he already knew. He barely survived the Galara's training and knew he really need to spend more time training to stay fit and keep up.

From the corner of his eye he watched the other train as well. He wasn't one to start small talk and had a hard time deciding to approach her or not. He did nod in her direction to indicate he was aware of her presence.]

[Maggie was no stranger to unfamiliar faces popping up in the fleet. She had been here so long and still felt like she hardly knew anyone. It wasn't the same as back home, where this band of strangers had somehow come together and made a family.

When the man nearest her nods, upon making eye contact, Maggie decides to break the ice.]

What's that you're doing? I don't think I've seen anything like it.

[The fighting, the stances, whatever it is he's practicing. She's only versed in knife throwing and having a mean right hook.]

These particular stances were taught to me by someone else among the fleet. He was helping me improve in my combat skills.

[Hux quietly explained as he continued his practice. He only stopped when he made the offer to Maggie. While it was good to practice, it was always better to have a partner.]

I saw that you were practicing a variation as well. Would you like a partner to train against?

Sure. Normally it's just the dummies that I hit - or sand bags. A real person would be a nice change.

[Maggie smiles and gives a wave of her hand to indicate he can start whenever. She has her feet planted and her fists up.]

What's your typical style that you fight with?

I don't really... have a style. Just basic self defense. My experience fighting isn't a typical one by any means.

Right, then let's see what your basic self defense is and work from there.

[Hux then moved into a defensive pose preparing to see what her moves will be.]

I could use the practice, probably. [he's been feeling antsy lately, so why not] Want a moving punching bag?

Sure. The more the merrier.

[She can totally understand feeling antsy. Losing a captain, watching your friend turn into a zombie, and having your husband show up all in the span of weeks had been a lot.]

Got anything specific you want to practice?

[oh, now he's gotta think about it. He hums, scratching at at the stubble on his cheek]

Dunno, depends on how hard you wanna go. I'm trained, but I'm also like - wasn't joking about the punching bag comment, either.

I'm not trained. I only learned from being on the road a lot. Can't be too careful. I throw a mean right hook, though.

[She can't help but chuckle, feeling a little lame in comparison to anyone who had actual formal training.]

I know how to throw knives and use guns, but it never hurts to learn somethin' new.

See, that's a step ahead of like, half the guys I know. None of 'em know how to throw a damn punch. [he taps his temple] I know better than to believe that "not trained" bullshit, you folks are more dangerous than the trained ones.

[he ain't even saying that, he means it, ya'll dangerous]

I know guns, but I don't know knives past like, how to hold 'em right. Could you teach me? Maybe we could, I dunno, trade fighting tips or something.

[ All of this, every bit, has been impossible and well beyond, in the best ways he could have never imagined. Seeing other planets, even if they're not lush paradises, being on a spaceship, breathing - and all of it with Maggie? A blanket in a corner of the Cargo Bay is more than enough.

Yeah, he's managing okay. He gives her a bright smile, with a soft chuckle. ]

Are you kidding? It's amazing.

Yeah? I was hoping you'd like it.

[It was honestly great to have some time to themselves and having some sort of a date on top of it was nice too.]

Definitely not a watch tower, but it'll do.

[Sometimes she missed the jail. Things had been less complex and less painful back then, even with some of the losses they still suffered. Things had been fresh and bright and new between them. She wanted that feeling again. She wanted to have moments like this to chase away how helpless she still felt about losing their child.]

[ He laughs there, bright and warm. He misses it too, really, finding and clearing it, the community they'd built, the leadership council... as much as they'd gone through while they were there, it was still the place their relationship really solidified. The place they became husband and wife. ]

Oh, god... remember that time we were up there, and they wanted to get... something done out in the yard, I don't even know now. But Daryl called us down? Everyone just laughing while I tried to get my pants on.

[ Hey, it's embarrassing, but what can he possibly care about that now, after everything? It was funny. ]

Yeah, I remember.

[She laughs along with him. Daryl and the others had their fun. Even if things hadn't ended well, she and Glenn had carried on.]

I also remember you had that damned camera too.

[She actually missed that camera and regretted not having a picture of him.]

Maybe I'll have to find one and repay the favor next time you're sleepin'.

[It felt like years ago.]

[ And then he laughs again - that camera, that photo, that whole moment was one of those perfect tiny bits of life that they managed to find, even in their world. Especially with her reaction to the photo. ]

I loved that damned camera.

[ And then he grins. ]

I earned that, though. Try not to get me drooling too badly.

Oh no, now I have to get two pictures - one of you totally normal so I can hang it up in the lab and one of you drooling just to keep to myself.

[See? Compromise. Still, a picture of him after everything would have been nice. Specifically not a picture of that. She still remembered them standing over him while she was completely shell shocked and unable to process anything beyond hysterical crying. No, it was better he didn't know that.]

I'm kinda sad I burned it now. It's nice to have pictures, memories and all that, considering everything we lost just getting here.

[She doesn't mean to be morbid, but she knows he gets it. She would have liked pictures of Beth or her father or him - just something to hold onto. It would have been nice to show their baby, if they had been allowed to still have them here.]

[ He certainly can't blame her for being a bit morbid. He's been trying his best to focus on what he has here, the opportunity to see entire other galaxies and worlds, for one - but mostly on the second chance he's been given, that he somehow has more time with her, and with the others. A chance to live just a little bit more. He should be grateful for that. He is grateful, without question.

But it stays with him, of course. It would be impossible for him to not carry all that they've lost, everyone who isn't here, everyone who didn't even make it as far as he did... and then what happened to him, and not having their baby. ]

Yeah... but you do still have the memories. And we have right now.

[ And then, he shifts, putting an arm around her. ]

Besides, I don't really mind that you burned it... because that's a memory now, too. And whether or not I have a picture, you're always with me anyway.

[ The other side of that is that he's always with her, but it's easier to say it this way. Talking too plainly about his own death is still beyond what he can really manage... but he knows that it's there to be understood. ]

[When his arm goes around her she instinctively snuggles closer, resting her cheek on his shoulder. She nods once, understanding what he's saying.]

You're right, as always.

[She smiles, reaching for his hand to slot her fingers between his. This was nice. Time with him was something she'd missed for so long and having him here was like waking up from some really long bad dream.]

I'm glad we get to do this more - just spend time together. Just the two of us.

[She lifts her head a bit straighter, leaning in to kiss his cheek.]

[ There, he laughs slightly. ]

Hey, not always. I don't need that kind of pressure.

[ His fingers easily find their way to twine between hers, squeezing lightly as they do. Like they're home. ]

Yeah... me too.

[ And he smiles at the kiss, warm but bittersweet - because it should be more than just the two of them. Because this shouldn't be the only way it's possible for that to happen. ]

I don't think there are too many other people who actually want to stay here.

I call it like I see it. You've always been the voice of reason.

[She smiles fondly, just enjoying the closeness.]

Mm. I was one of those people. I know the Hilltop probably still needs me but if what they've always said is true - that time is just stopped or somethin' - I don't think I'm in any hurry to get home.

[She'd rather not go back to a place where he isn't, to be perfectly honest.]

Nah. I just tried to learn from them.

[ That's true, in his mind - Dale, Hershel... they set the kind of example he'd aspired to. Maybe, after they were gone, he'd managed to convey what they might have. He tried.

But right now, this is what matters. ]

Of course they need you, but... I believe it, time being stopped. If I can be here and we can have this, then I don't doubt that Hilltop is exactly as you left it, waiting for you to get back to it. And I know you'll be incredible when you get there, but until then, I'm going to take every single moment like this we can get.

[ And because they're just a little too close to going too sad, he pulls it back with a warm bit of levity - ]

And a million pictures. Exactly a million.

Maggie. Where did you pick up a skill like knife throwing?

[Mantis is currently scratching at his back, but he's none-the-less interested.]

Doesn't seem like the typical hobby picked up to pass the time.

I had a friend who used to be in the army. He taught me and the rest of our friends lots of little things. The rest I just picked up on my own. I grew up on a farm, so I already knew how to use one to cut things and the like. Throwin' knives is probably the easiest, I think.

[Specifically when you're trying to hit a very slow moving but not-so-steady target like a walker.]

Hands-on kind of person. Surprising amount of people like you in this place. I'm ex-military myself.
