[Prompto wakes up in his room on the First Breath. Only the room is not known to him. His clothes don’t fit right. And there are two dogs that he definitely does not own – his parents would never allow that – though one is strikingly familiar.]

…Pryna?

[He receives a bark and a circle dance as confirmation.

She is the only reason he gets up the nerve to peek out of the room, and then wander cautiously around the ship, his every step slow and dragging.

Later, he finds his way to the Iskaulit, where things are no less confusing. He hasn’t seen a single familiar face. It’s daunting and scary, so he keeps one hand on the fluffy white dog at all times. Good thing he found that camera in the room. It may not be his, but it’s comforting to have all the same. Anyway, Pryna had made weird motions at it like he was supposed to take it, and who is he to deny a precious animal?]




((OOC: Prompto’s been glitched to his childhood, and without his memories of the fleet. He can be found wandering the First Breath or the Iskaulit. Help a kid out!))

[Kaname's just leaving her visit to the Space Bar when she encounters a new (?) fleeter. Strange, it's not the day for that yet, and she hasn't seen the child over the network.

Once she's slightly closer, she starts to recognize the dog(s), the camera, and the band around his right wrist.

... crap. So she makes her way over, smiling on approach.]

Hi.

[this_loser]

[He looks up just long enough to get a quick look at her face, then looks away again.]

Um. Hello.

[Both dogs' tails are wagging like mad. She must be safe, then.]

Are you new around here?

[She crouches down to pet both dogs, one with each hand.]

[this_loser]

[A small nod.]

Mm-hmm.

[He peeks up when the dogs continue to wag and let her pet them. No growling or barking. They could just be super friendly puppies. But he's pretty sure the Oracle's own dogs are smarter than average.]

I dunno where I am.

[axi]

[When he looks up, Kaname still gently smiling at him.]

If you got here, you're already aware we're in space, right? [Her voice is calm and patient.] We're on board the Fleet. There are other ships like the one you most likely started on.

[She takes a hand off Umbra and holds it out to him for a handshake.]

My name's Kaname. What's yours?

[He nods again. It's the space thing that's really throwing him off. It's got to be a dream, right? It just feels way too real, though.

He hesitates, then grips her hand.]

Prompto. Are you ... from ... here?

[She didn't look like an alien - not enough slime or tentacles - but this was a space ship in space.]

[His question gets a shake of her head.]

No, not really. Everyone here is from different places. We already have space travel where I'm from.

[Man, this is a little stranger than she was anticipating.]

Are you hungry? There's a nice place to get some food where I can answer more questions if you'd like. My treat.

[Kaname pets the dogs again.] And for your friends too, of course.

Oh.

[He looks a little awed by that. Space travel is just movies and TV shows.

A hand goes to his stomach and he nods ever so slightly. Though...]

I'm not supposed to go anywhere with strangers. [But everyone he's seen so far is a stranger, so what he supposed to do about that? Anyway, he is hungry, and finding food is one thing he hasn't figured out yet.] But ... okay. Thank you.

You're welcome. [Kaname stands up and takes a step back.] I think these two can tell you who's good and who's not. Animals have good instincts about that.

[Except Q-Lulu probably.]

It's this way. [She turns and makes a small motion for him to follow.]

What do you like to eat?

I guess so. [He lays a hand on each one.] They aren't mine, though. They were just with me when I woke up.

[He shuffles after her. Burgers are his favorite, but he's been trying very hard to eat healthier things. So he asks:] Is there salad?

They seem to have taken a liking to you, though. It might be a good idea to keep them around for some time.

[Really? She makes a hmm sound, thinking aloud.]

There might be. I think there's at least some fruit.

I don't think I have a choice. They've been following me this whole time.

[Not that he's complaining. It's nice. He loves them already.]

Fruit is good. Thank you.

Fast friends aren't a bad thing.

[Of course she knows why, but it's still entertaining all the same.]

You're very welcome. So, do you like photography?

[A shy nod.]

Mmhmm. I take pictures of the animals I see on my way to school. And home.

[He almost lifts up the camera - maybe she would want to see - but...]

Oh. But this isn't my camera... I dunno why I took it.

Maybe you wanted to keep it safe? [Either way, they reach the Melting Pot, and Kaname's off into the back to grab something to eat. She'll leave credits later-- an IOU for now.

Calling out into the dining area:]

Have a seat in the mean time!

[That's as good an excuse as any. He nods and tucks the camera away. Safely.

He hovers a moment, looking around. It looks cozy, a bit like the last restaurant his parents took him to. He's pretty sure someone led them to a table. There were also more people.

So he goes to the closest table and pulls himself up into one of the chairs, legs swinging as he waits.]

[A few minutes later, she emerges from the kitchen with two drinks and two plates on a tray. Water for her, juice for him, and some reheated meat with fruits and veggies on the side. It's not pretty, but it's definitely edible and not bad.

The entire thing is placed on the table as she takes the chair across from him with a smile.]</small? Will this work?

Yes. Thank you. [He picks at the fruit curiously before popping one in his mouth. It's ... not bad. He tries something different, shyly looking across the table.] Can I ask you something?

[She pauses while taking a drink and puts her cup down with a smile.]

Of course, what's on your mind?

You, um. You said everyone is from different places? That means you too?

[axi]

It does. But we've got space travel where I'm from, so it's not all completely new.

[Kaname grins a little.]

Why do you ask?

[this_loser]

[Oh. Wow. He looks in awe for a moment.]

Um, just curious. [He takes another piece of fruit, glancing sidelong at the dogs laying nearby.] Is the Oracle here? [Would she even know who the Oracle is?]

[axi]

The Oracle...? [Give her a moment.] Oh! Lunafreya. She was here, but she's gone back home now.

[She takes a drink.]

I think she'd like it if you took care of the dogs in her stead for now.

[this_loser]

[So they are definitely Lady Lunafreya's dogs. He looks at them again, frowning a bit, whispering,] She left without them.

[Surely not on purpose. She had seemed very grateful to get Tiny... Pryna back when she's fallen into his care as a puppy. He nods, very seriously.]

I'll do my best.

You seem like the type of person who would.

[She smiles at him.]

[Nami comes across him on her way to the gardens, lugging a stepladder behind her. This whole fruit-growing thing is a lot more difficult when you're bite-sized. But she stops when she sees Prompto. It's a kid. An unfamiliar one at that. New to the Fleet, or just some poor adult glitching?

Hey. You lost?

[Oh thank the Six. Another kid. Not that kids were any easier to talk to than adults... But it was good to know there were other kids here besides himself.]

Probably. [He frowns with a small shrug.] I'm not sure it matters, though. If this is space, then I'm really ... really ... far from home.

[namoe]

We're all pretty far from home. [It's dry, but her smile is sympathetic.] But we all go home eventually, too.

[..yeah she's not sure about that. But hey, it's better than the alternative.]

What's your name?

[That's the best news he's heard all day.]

Ah, um, Prompto?

[namoe]

[Ah. There's not much of a resemblance, but same could be said for how Nami really looked as a kid and her grown self. She chews her lip for a moment.]

Well, I'm Nami. Anyone else been around to answer your questions?

Um... No. Not really. I know it's space, but... [A small shrug.] I dunno how I got here.

[namoe]

Nobody else really knows, either. You just wake up here one day. Generally, I guess it's like you got sliced right out of time to come spend a while here. You have... reality TV where you're from?

[She'll try and keep this short, because Prompto doesn't really need to understand all this if he's just gonna be his adult self in another week or two. But some context is good.]

Oh. [No one knows. That's comforting and not at the same time.

He nods slowly.] Like Housewives of Insomnia?

[namoe]

[...she's never gonna get other world fascination with these things.]

Yeah, probably. A bunch of different people basically being on TV all the time? That's meant to be what's happening here.

Oh.

Oh! [He jolts and starts looking around, up, down, all over.] You mean they're watching us right now?

[namoe]

They could be! But we're just two kids having a conversation in a hallway, right? I bet the audience would be bored with every time we explain how something works.

First Breath

[Following their card games, it had been a rough few weeks for Haggar, and as such she mostly kept to herself in her room once they had returned to Drifting.

Kova was notably not in the room with her. The cat was left to unhappily wander the ship, sometimes sitting outside of his mistress's door or patiently waiting in the kitchen for someone to take pity on him.

He's a restless sort, though, and that is when he comes across the wandering child.]

[The dogs that have been tailing him since he woke up are still with him, though not right up on him. Maybe he took a few too many pictures of them with the camera that isn't actually his. One of them makes a huffing sound the same time he spots the cat. Is that a cat? An alien cat?!

He automatically, soundlessly, lifts the camera and snaps a photo, and barely looks at it before crouching to get a better look.]

Hello, kitty. Hi.

[He sure is an alien cat. His tail gives a cautious flick, but if not by sight, by scent the boy is familiar enough that he allows the proximity, stepping around in a small circle before remaining still for the boy to get a better look, conveying his greeting in a low, non-threatening noise.

The dogs, he already knows. Even with Kova's vaguely territorial nature, he keeps his distance from them, usually. A modest sort of "agreement", with them being here first.]

[No matter the age, Prompto is a sucker for animals. The dogs continue to hang back, one sitting, the other flopping on its belly.

Prompto rocks forward so he's on his knees and scoots closer to the cat, one hand out, hoping Kova will let him pet. (Is it safe to pet an alien cat? He sure hopes so.)]

[This alien cat is not about to say no to genuine affection.

He bumps his nose lightly against Prompto's hand just once, to confirm the familiarity of scent, making another low, cautious sound.]

[He grins and happily strokes the cat's head and down it's back.

This almost makes up for how weird things have been lately.]

[The cat makes a soft noise. He greatly enjoys pets, as most of his fur is very smooth, but he's still a cautious creature, as he walks around in a circle to mostly keep control over where he is patted.

But otherwise, he allows it to go on. It's the sort of affection he has been in need of. Eventually, though, he will look up at Prompto with something of an inquisitive look, and then to the dogs, conveying a sense of 'there's an issue, isn't there? Maybe he can help'. In cat body language.]
