I love it when new books show up in the library...it's not very often, but every once in a while there's a new book to look at. I found this really neat one, it was a fairy tale about a girl whose mother casts a spell on so she sleeps until the wars of her land are over.

And then she wakes up and she explores the new world, and she makes new friends and she finds her mother as an old, old woman and tells her all of her adventures. It's a little bittersweet at the end, but it's really good, if anybody would like to borrow it.

Does anybody have any legends or stories like that? People going to sleep and waking up new places, or traveling to new worlds? I'd like to hear 'em.

That story reminds me a little bit of someone I know. The Voice of the Divine Dragon was a friend and companion to our kingdom's founder. She slept for some two thousand years, before awakening to aid us when the world was in peril once again.

[Yeah, Sorey hasn't seen his face for longer than a couple minutes at a time, and they live on the same ship. Ben's been skulking for some reason; maybe stretching his legs a little will help.]

Oh wow...why was she asleep like that, and for so long? Did she have to be?

[he doesn't really want to leave his room until he has to, but fine, whatever, he'll go to the damn library. A few minutes later Ben shuffles his way into the loading bay, shoulders hunched and hands shoved deep into his jacket pockets, no different from normal.

There's an old poem about a sorceress who put her village to sleep in order to hide and protect them from a great evil. It's completely made up, but I'm fond of it regardless.

Well- not quite like that. I don't think he's been around as long as she was, and he wasn't quite asleep, but he was a divine dragon too.

I haven't! Is it a fairy tale or a historical record? I'll admit, I haven't gone into the fairy tale section as often as history.

There wasn't much fanfare. Two people sought me out. One was searching for me.

The other fell down a hole.

...okay, [Sorey agrees easily, willing to leave well enough alone as they walk to the library, linking his fingers back behind his neck. Malevolence all looks pretty much the same, but sometimes there's...shades. Or smells, or something. Something in the way it moves.

It's not hard to guess, anyway, not with Ben holing himself up in his quarters and hardly ever coming out.]
