I love it when new books show up in the library...it's not very often, but every once in a while there's a new book to look at. I found this really neat one, it was a fairy tale about a girl whose mother casts a spell on so she sleeps until the wars of her land are over.

And then she wakes up and she explores the new world, and she makes new friends and she finds her mother as an old, old woman and tells her all of her adventures. It's a little bittersweet at the end, but it's really good, if anybody would like to borrow it.

Does anybody have any legends or stories like that? People going to sleep and waking up new places, or traveling to new worlds? I'd like to hear 'em.

[Libra looks thoughtful.]

That story reminds me a little bit of someone I know. The Voice of the Divine Dragon was a friend and companion to our kingdom's founder. She slept for some two thousand years, before awakening to aid us when the world was in peril once again.

She's never explained it. She is a being of great power, however - powerful enough to know that she would be needed again. It may have been to keep her safe until that time, or perhaps of her own choice, to preserve the memories she formed so long ago. ...She speaks of the hero-king Marth, the kingdom's founder, with great fondness.

A new book!! [Belthazar is just as excited, okay.] Hmm, I think I know of one...

There's an old poem about a sorceress who put her village to sleep in order to hide and protect them from a great evil. It's completely made up, but I'm fond of it regardless.
spellsteal: (haha well.)

[personal profile] spellsteal 2018-11-06 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
Give me a minute, I think I can remember some of it...

[He leans offscreen so he can heat up his tea and sip it thoughtfully.]

The poem was written in Thalassian, so it doesn't quite rhyme in Common. I hope that's all right.

It's definitely a fairy tale. It's about a man who slept for twenty years and woke up, so when he went back home, everything had changed.

It's not quite a story about waking up in a new place, but everything is new to him.

There was a princess who had been cursed to die if she pricked her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel. The most...accessible versions involve a good fairy changing it so that she only slept for one hundred years instead, when she's found sleeping in her overgrown castle by a prince. Sometimes they invoke a kiss made from true love.

We have a lot of old stories like that where I come from. Monsters who nearly die of broken hearts, selfish daughters turned to ice... You learn a lot about what kind of history a land has based off of the stories that the people tell each other.
