Fleetsgiving Mingle [ Open to All ]
Who: Everyone Who Wants to Come!
Broadcast: Nope
Action: Yes, Planetside
When: Sunday
An invitation was sent out via the network to all of the Fleet, inviting them to come together for a night of feasting, dancing, and games.
Kirk has managed to procure an event space for what he has dubbed Fleetsgiving. It sports a warm, interior space, decorated with tables, including two longer ones for food and drink. Along the far wall is a fireplace, crackling away for warmth, chairs set around and a table for fireplace games. The entire room glows with lights set in draped garlands, candles, and dim lights, warm and inviting and offering intimacy for those who wish to find it. Kirk would take credit for the decor, but no, it was the product of the owners of the event space. Probably just as well, to be honest.
An open space at the center is open for dancing at one's leisure, music drifting through the air - loud enough for dancers to sway to a beat, but not loud enough to make conversation impossible. But, who knows, maybe towards the latter half of the evening when everyone has drunk enough, there will be a dance contest. There might also be a karaoke contest, but, really, that's up to the people.
There is some prepared food - something that looks like a kind of poultry and something like meatballs in a bright orange sauce. Kirk can't vouch for what sort of animals they came from, but he can vouch for them being delicious. Bread, jam spreads, butter, local nuts and crackers. For desert there are what look like tiny tarts, and cookies dusted in a sweet pink powder. But while there is food provided, there is plenty of room for others to bring their favorites from home, or even their favorites from being here in the Fleet.
Nothing was spared for drinks either. Local wines are set out in their bottles, ready to pour, fizzy drinks in cans and punch bowls, harder options for those who wished them further down, and water and juice for those less inclined to imbibe. While there isn't much room for additions, they are welcome.
By the fire are a number of games laid out for choice - cards, some board games, and even a chess set, though it is a touch odd. Three boards, at varying heights, on a curved stand. The way the seats are arranged make it comfortable for many to play at once, or for only a few to play and many to gather by the fire and watch or idly chatter.
Come one, come all, and have a good time!
[ ooc: this is an open mingle post! Go ahead and make your own starters, tag around, and have a good time! Characters would be encouraged to bring their own food to add, or drinks if they so like, favorite games, etc. ]

I do not believe so. May I have the pleasure.

Belthazar Anor'thalion. [He bows from the waist, his ears bouncing slightly with the movement.] I apologize for my rudeness. When I'm focused on something I sometimes forget the pleasantries.
no subject
[ he gives a short bow himself. ]
And I didn't notice any rudeness.
no subject
[No wonder he'd startled some when Belthazar almost said his father's name.]
Is this your first time attending something like this? On my world, we hold a great harvest feast called the Pilgrim's Bounty.
no subject
Yes. My family tended to keep to themselves and I never attended many feasts or celebrations.
no subject
[He clears his throat, then, and tries to change the subject.]
Well then, I think I know a fair bit about the dishes if you'd like a guide.
no subject
[ his mother had pushed that limit and look what happened to her? ]
Please, enlighten a poor soul like myself.
no subject
[He moves on.]
Mashed potatoes and gravy, and sweet potatoes-- those are the orange ones. The white stuff on top is marshmallow, which is sweet with a mild flavor. And these things are meatballs-- [he gestures to Kirk's meatballs in orange sauce] -- and they're delicious, if not questionable. Meatballs are always a little questionable, but very versatile. You can have them with pasta or on their own. Then this is macaroni and cheese, which is a type of noodle with cheese all mixed in, and I think that's some pea soup--
[He goes on like this for a while until he's pointed out everything on Alucard's plate and on the table.]
It's all a bit overwhelming, isn't it?
no subject
I'm not sure if I'm overwhelming or simply slow in my learning process.
no subject
Perhaps you should pick up a recipe book and eat your way through it.
no subject
I'm not sure it'll help me much. My diet is rather unique.
no subject
W-well, yes, but... eating is a form of... it's part of being social. And if you can eat, then sometimes you might want to eat things just for the sake of eating them. Like for a celebration, or because you like the taste or the smell. Food can be memories. It's a lot of different things. What I'm trying to say is--
[He's getting more and more flustered as he tries to wrap back around to the point.]
You should nourish your human side, too.
no subject
You're not wrong. I will have to work on it.
no subject
... It's something I have to learn, too. It's all too easy to push myself to the limit. Needing to eat and sleep is inconvenient at times.
no subject
I can't say I've ever faced that problem. Being part vampire gives me limits far beyond both my kin.
no subject
I only need about four hours of sleep a night, but honestly I'd rather keep working until I fix the problem. I've made potions for staying up before, but that comes with a price. The compound that keeps people awake is also kind of addictive.
no subject
[ eventually, he might have to. he still ages after all, and only a certain kind of hibernation slows it down. ]
no subject
Why would anyone want to hurt you? You're so... gentle.
[He realizes what slipped out after he said it, and holds up his free hand.]
Ah, sorry. I don't need the details, it just-- it's none of my business. I can see why you'd want to avoid sleeping after that, though. A lot can change in a year when you're surrounded by humans.
They live so fast.
no subject
[ and now that she's gone, the idea of a hibernation doesn't sound unappealing. ]
no subject
no subject
No. I imagine it won't be. They're certainly an improvement over the few I've known.
no subject
We're so far away from territory disputes and decade long wars, it's almost surreal.

It's a feud that's gone on for more than thirty years, since the orcs first crossed over into Azeroth. The fighting is so pointless. How is it that people can cooperate to destroy a common threat, and then turn on each other so soon afterward?
