Fleetsgiving Mingle [ Open to All ]

An invitation was sent out via the network to all of the Fleet, inviting them to come together for a night of feasting, dancing, and games.

Kirk has managed to procure an event space for what he has dubbed Fleetsgiving. It sports a warm, interior space, decorated with tables, including two longer ones for food and drink. Along the far wall is a fireplace, crackling away for warmth, chairs set around and a table for fireplace games. The entire room glows with lights set in draped garlands, candles, and dim lights, warm and inviting and offering intimacy for those who wish to find it. Kirk would take credit for the decor, but no, it was the product of the owners of the event space. Probably just as well, to be honest.

An open space at the center is open for dancing at one's leisure, music drifting through the air - loud enough for dancers to sway to a beat, but not loud enough to make conversation impossible. But, who knows, maybe towards the latter half of the evening when everyone has drunk enough, there will be a dance contest. There might also be a karaoke contest, but, really, that's up to the people.

There is some prepared food - something that looks like a kind of poultry and something like meatballs in a bright orange sauce. Kirk can't vouch for what sort of animals they came from, but he can vouch for them being delicious. Bread, jam spreads, butter, local nuts and crackers. For desert there are what look like tiny tarts, and cookies dusted in a sweet pink powder. But while there is food provided, there is plenty of room for others to bring their favorites from home, or even their favorites from being here in the Fleet.

Nothing was spared for drinks either. Local wines are set out in their bottles, ready to pour, fizzy drinks in cans and punch bowls, harder options for those who wished them further down, and water and juice for those less inclined to imbibe. While there isn't much room for additions, they are welcome.

By the fire are a number of games laid out for choice - cards, some board games, and even a chess set, though it is a touch odd. Three boards, at varying heights, on a curved stand. The way the seats are arranged make it comfortable for many to play at once, or for only a few to play and many to gather by the fire and watch or idly chatter.

Come one, come all, and have a good time!

It's a story about this fucked up cuteass little monkey that gets brought over to be a pet, but it's got this crazy disease and nearly wipes out an entire country.

So if it's not a plague - what happened? You just get sick and die? Because that? Super sucks.

[What kind of weird-ass disease kills from a single bite? He stares at Carl for a moment, then folds his hands together in front of his face for a second, breathing in.

Then he puts both hands on Carl's shoulders.]

[ Carl can't help it, he laughs. ] Y-yeah..it's kind of bullshit. [ He even puts his plate down for a second and lifts up the edge of his shirt so Taako can see. Right over his ribs, there's definitely a scar that looks like a human bite. ]

[He pulls back and takes a look at that mark, eyebrows quirking up as he realizes something.

That isn't an animal bite.]

Okay, crazy question and like, no shame or nothing, but is that? That's not from an animal, is it.

[Mkay, this is where things get weird because? Taako knows of zombies. He's never had to really fight the undead before, but he knows of them. Zombies in his world are the raised dead used for fighting or something though, usually controlled by a necromancer and heavily punished by the laws of the Raven Queen.

But they're still, essentially, warriors and they use weapons not...teeth.

He stares at the wound for a moment, then scratches his head.]

So a dude bit you and you died? He must've had some gnarly breath.

Yeah.. Dead people don't smell great. You get used to it, at least? Everything smells kind of bad. [ Wouldn't everything be so much easier if they were being controlled?? And also punishable. ]

[Okay, so yep! His guess was right, but something about this still seems off.]

Um, one? No, you should never get used to that smell. It's gross.

And two? Why was a necromancer attacking a kid?

[Taako drags his hands down his face at this little revelation. That is the stuff of nightmares and fiction. They definitely had stories like that, but zombies were, in reality exclusively the purvey of necromancers. Generally, if you didn't have one of them hanging around, you'd be fine.]

Carl is some dumb kid who is a little too invested in the space world he's found himself living in, now. Where he gets to meet badass wizards who can do wicked magic, or giant Qunari or.. any of the things found there. ] That's what most people I've met here called them, yeah. They have a lot of names back home- walkers, roamers, dead ones.. All the same thing, though.

How in the hell did an entire planet of humans miss that whole subgenre of horror? It's a staple! Like, it's apparently been this deep-rooted fear in society for, like, forever. Humans are the most preoccupied species with their own mortality - you'd think they'd have brought up that particular eldritch horror at some point.
