[While the sentiment behind Fleetsgiving had been a welcome one, it did have the unfortunate side effect of reminding Pete of a certain time of year that...well, while it wouldn't be the first time he'd spent it away from Earth and everyone he knew back home, it was definitely going to be the first time he was aware of it. Which sucked. But it also got him thinking about how he wasn't likely to be the only one dealing with some heavy doses of homesickness, and it was probably a good idea to change that.
So while he might be feeling just a little awful right about now, he's at least trying his best to hide it when he starts his broadcast. He's much less capable of such a feat than he thinks he is, but it's not why he wanted to talk to everyone else, so he's doing what he can.]
So, I know not all of us are from Earth- or, heck, even the same Earth- but those of us who are...well, there's a good chance I'm not the only one feeling a little more homesick than usual right about now. And it's probably only gonna get worse.
For anyone not from Earth, there's a few different holidays all lumped together where everyone gets a little closer to friends and family and celebrates with one another. I'm still not great at keeping track of dates or times out here, but I think they should be coming up soon. And I don't know that any of us are going to be lucky enough to celebrate any of them properly.
[Since, did anyone here even have family with them? Even the extended kind? Not something he'd ever really thought to ask, but he imagined it wouldn't be a large number. He does look a bit uncomfortable bringing it up, like he should be guilty for even reminding anyone of that particular fact, but he doesn't dwell on it long. Eventually he just forces himself to keep going.]
Anyway... a lot of them involve giving gifts to those people, like a tangible way of showing how important they are to you. I know not everyone here's that close, and there's probably plenty of people I haven't even met yet, but I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a gift exchange within the Fleet. It wouldn't need to be anything too elaborate or expensive, just...well, thoughtful. Just something to make being stuck out here a little bit less awful for one another, since even if we aren't all even from the same planet, or time, or even the same universe, we are stuck here together.
So...I guess what I'm asking is, is that something anyone else would be interested in? We could even arrange it so that everyone's given a person at random, so nobody's left out.
