Hello from the Heron

[There's a new face on the Heron and she's decided that she wants to say hi to the Heron as well as to the entire Fleet! And, being the intelligent young lady that she is, she figures out Shin-Ah's communication devices to get a video broadcast going! Which means now everyone is treated to a screen full of her face.

She looks thrilled and actually starts waving at the screen before saying hello.]

P-kyuuuuuu! P-kyuuu!

[She's happy to meet you all!

It's at this time Shin-Ah (that strange mask of his sure is still on his face) notices and suddenly he can be seen on the screen reaching for her.]

Ah...Ao...

[She lets out another noise before running up his arm to go and sit on top of his shoulder, gently bapping his cheek as if to show everyone this is her person. Shin-Ah hands her a little nut before reaching over to end the recording.

So everyone on the Heron? You're sure to see this cute little squirrel around all the time now. Because she's Shin-Ah's friend and she goes almost everywhere he does. But she also loves to make friends and cuddle with other people too! Which means that she may end up in a room you're in before Shin-Ah can realize and follow after her.]

[Aww, is that a squirrel? How tiny and cute! Lup watches the broadcast in amusement, turns on the video, and sets the communicator down; a moment later, after she snaps her fingers, a little furry head pops into view, pawing at the screen in a makeshift wave. It's a little mongoose!]

Looks like you made a friend.

[Ao waves at him from where she's sitting on Shin-Ah's shoulder.]

She's from where I come from.

[She baps his face like "Yes. This is my boy. Right here."]

[His lips form a little "o" as he watches her summon the mongoose. And Ao trills in excitement as she runs up to sit on top of Shin-Ah's head. There she dances around, even doing little flips for what she has decided is her new animal friend.]

[He's more of a dog/cat person, but he can't help waving back at the squirrel anyway] Did she just arrive?

The tree gave her to me. [Ao lets out a little trill at being waved to before jumping up to land on Shin-Ah's head. He seems very used to that so he just keeps his head still.]

Uhhh. What tree?

On the planet. You...climb down to it.

[jolting]

Oh, I see. I'll have to go down and check it out.

[twosidedsword]

It will want something from you.

[A pause.]

...I think.

[He's not sure how it works. He just knows he was talking to it and then... Well, now he has Ao.]

[jolting]

Of course it will. Things like that always come at a price.

[twosidedsword]

Yes.

[He reaches up and gently brings Ao down into his hands.]

It was fine. For Ao.

[jolting]

I understand. And I'll still check it out. Who knows, the tree might have something worthwhile.

[twosidedsword]

[jolting]

That could save me some time. Thanks.

Mm. [He nods his head. Only to realize, right, he's not sure when Victor wants to actually go.]

...when do you wish to...?

[jolting]

Why not now? Unless you have something you need to do.

[twosidedsword]

[He quickly shakes his head. Then wanders off the camera to head to Victor. (He still hasn't figured out the finer details of communication like this.)

But hey. Here he is, Victor. Ready to go!]

[jolting]

[Victor is all ready to go in his winter gear]

You make good time. After you. [Since he doesn't know where to go]

[From the fur of his mask appears the squirrel. She trills at Victor and waves before perching on Shin-Ah's shoulder.

Once they're on the planet, Shin-Ah points to where they're going.]

This way. We'll need to climb.

[He just wants to warn him in advance.]

[jolting]

[He waves back at the squirrel]

That's fine. I think I'll make it.

[twosidedsword]

[Shin-Ah's eyes put them on the easiest path through the snow and even on the easiest path to climb. He even takes his time to wait for the man so he can offer help if needed.

Ao for her part has darted ahead and waits for them to catch up. She's great at climbing!]

[jolting]

[Those eyes sure are handy. Victor follows along, grateful that Shin-Ah keeps finding the easy paths. He's looking forward to seeing this tree and what it might offer him]

[At one point when Shin-Ah can see that Victor might slip if he goes one way, he holds out a hand to have him walk a different path. They may not be close but this is one of his ship mates so he's determined to keep him safe. Even from slipping and falling.

Before long, the tree comes into view and Shin-Ah points to it.]

There.

[jolting]

Thanks. [He says when Shin-Ah keeps him from falling.

When they reach the tree, Victor takes a moment to just look at it]
